Background

Humble Beginnings

Melody was given birth to in Paragon City. Due to her father constantly going out and heroing, she spent most of her youth with her mother, a normal housewife, in a private estate located in Croatoa. However, both of her parents had completely different views on how Melody should live her life. Her mother wanted her to become a hero, like her father. And her dad wanted her to live as normal a life as possible. But the two were able to agree on teaching her how to use the magical artifacts she would end up inheriting from her father. Thus, she spent most of her free time being taught magic by her mother. This continued until a young Melody one day brought her father a picture she drew of herself looking like a hero, cape and all. Enraged by the idea of her becoming a hero, he punished Melody, forbidding her from practicing magic again. But despite this, the two studied in secret when he wasn’t at home. Her father never found out.

Becoming a hero

The first Rikti war changed Melody’s family forever. Her father was constantly worried about Rikti attacking his wife and daughter while they were at home. Therefore, he spontaniously returned to the house to check up on them. This made Melody’s secret practice of magic that much harder. However, the two continued without him finding out.

As Melody’s knowledge of magic continued to grow, her father grew more and more worried for the sake of his family. He revealed to them that he had become a member of the Omega Team, and would likely never see them again. The day after this revalation, the Omega Team began their famed attack on the Rikti Homeworld, and the war ended, putting the two out of danger. Melody has not seen her father since. However, both Melody and her mother decided that it would be best if Melody became what her father (presumably) died as. A hero. Thus, Charmante came to be.

Saving the City

Melody quickly proved herself to be quite a powerful hero, much like her father. She tried to follow the few things he told her about what it was to be a hero. She never killed, she always tried her best to save innocents, and she never trusted the PPD with catching anything by themselves. At the peek of her career, she joined the SDI - Wolfcry Division, a group of heroes whom fought crime in a manner similar to her own.

Despite her power, Melody found the sound magic she had been using ineffective against most foes. She wanted to learn something more powerful, more deadly. Thus, she began learning fire magic in secret from her mother, having been taught the basics by Legionbreaker. Despite quickly learning how to form fire, she had little control over it. While practicing at home, she accidentally started a small fire in the house while her mother was sleeping. Thinking she could somehow control it so that the fire would not spread, she tried to use her powers on the fire. This only made it stronger, and it quickly consumed the estate. Her mother was killed in the fire, and Melody was left without a family. Not able to bear the guilt of killing her only remaining family, she fled to the Rogue Isles.

Saving the Isles

Despite her no longer being in Paragon City, Melody tried her best to continue her heroics in the Isles. She did anything the Longbow soldiers stationed in the Isles requested, and helped anyone she could. Having heard of the group that Legionbreaker was in, the Shadow Spiders, she decided it would be best to join them. Unfortunately, she found that Legionbreaker was no longer a member. However, she stayed anyway and failed miserably to hide the fact that she was a hero.

Through her stay on the Isles, she was able to master her fire magic. Although eager to learn more magic, she found that her powers were at their limits. Through intensive study, she found she was able to store her powers inside any sort of item, and would be able to amplify her powers through them. Figuring she could become more powerful, she stored her powers inside bracelet charms she bought from random stores. These charms are attached to a silver bracelet, which she now always wears.

Her life as a hero came to an end the day she met the Lady Nepae, a recent member of the Shadow Spiders. Melody was told by her that a rogue section of Longbow were selling weapons to Arachnos. The two worked together to defeat the Longbow until Melody discovered that they were stealing weapons from Arachnos, not selling them. She immediately left the ship, not wanting to fight a fellow Spider. As she left, the ship exploded, killing all on board. Lady Nepae told her that she destroyed it in order to cover Melody. However, Melody could not bear with the guilt of being part of what killed so many Longbow, and confessed to Longbow agents in Nerva. Her hero license was revoked, she left SDI – Wolfcry Division, and she became a vigilante.

Personality

Melody is a rather nice person if one manages to stay on her good side. She stands up for her friends, and puts herself in danger so that others aren’t hurt. However, if one manages to get on her bad side, it is unlikely that person will get back on her good side. But still, her bad side is just her trying to avoid speaking with you. And once you become her enemy, forget any chances you have of trying to speak to her.

Her time spent as a hero has made her lose most of her sympathy for others. After all, what does it matter if only one or two people lose their life in the grand scheme of things? Being a hero has also given her the nasty habit of labeling people. She's also rather un-sympathetic to other people's problems, though she is trying to change this.

She will often go out of her way to protect innocents in a fight. For example, instead of helping a fellow hero fight a losing battle, she will try to get all civilians in the area to safety. She even tries to make sure villains are not killed, but are instead captured and given to the local authorities to deal with. However, should there be no law in the area, or the enemy too powerful, she will attempt to cripple them by magically sealing or at least try to weaken the enemies powers.

Melody hardly ever has a plan going into a situation where she will use her powers. She just does it, and reacts. If there happen to be others whom she is assisting she will often let someone else take lead.

Powers and Equipment

[1]Charm Bracelet – Melody is always wearing this silver bracelet. By placing her magic energy inside of charms on the bracelet, she can increase her powers. She made it herself, and is constantly adding more charms to it. However, if someone were to take this bracelet from her, she would be significantly weakened.

[2]Sound Magic – The first form of magic Melody learned. She is an expert with it, and can even use it to aid others. However, she almost never uses it any more in favor of her newer powers.

[3]Air Magic – Melody almost only uses this form of magic for flight. However, her lack of air magic mastery brings her a significant weakness. If her body were to be even somewhat cut off from the air and she were to try to fly, she would instead sink. Say…if she were submerged in water. She can also use Air Magic to call upon lightning to assist her.

[4]Fire Magic – Possibly Melody’s most offensive form of magic. She’s good enough to call herself a master of it, and can use it to great effectiveness. However, due to her ‘no kill’ policy, she mostly only uses it as a way to contain threats. So instead of throwing fireballs, she puts people in balls of fire that will burn them if they try to break free. If they happen to kill themselves in the ball, Melody blames it on their stupidity.

[5]Psionic Magic – A form of magic that Melody’s father taught the basics of to her. It is without a doubt her favorite. She often uses it to read and enter the minds of others, learning their darkest secrets. At the beginning of her hero career, she learned that she could use this magic for telekinesis. Therefore, she began using it as a shield, to stop bullets from hitting her midair an such. However, this telekinetic barrier constantly drains her, and she can only maintain it for so long. Therefore, she does not use it outside of a combat situation.

Trivia

-Although it’s unlikely this would ever be found out, Melody is French. One could find this out through a background check, or by asking her. You might also be able to detect an accent in her voice, if only a light one.

-Melody’s player made her father a member of the Omega Team because there are only four known members of it. If all Omega Team members are named and given backgrounds, then her Father being a member of it will be retconned. (Unlikely)
