Born to a respected family, Somnium de Luca knew a life of luxury. Her father was in a well-respected position within the Court of Morpheus and she herself was destined to become a Royal Guard. With her entire life planned before her, Luca never expected much outside the status quo.

As she aged, she began to feel consistently more caged in her idyllic life. She often found her mind wandering to other lands, other people, other cultures. Considering her position, her thoughts alone could have been considered blasphemy, and when she dared to speak aloud, her parents were quick to scold.

Once she reached the Age of Training, she began her trails to become a Royal Guard for the Court. She spent years upon years training to become part of the elite force that guards their god, Morpheus. It was a position beyond all else in Demos Oneiroi. Competing for a position on the Royal Guard was black and white – those who did not make it into the ranks were not usually alive.

The Guard hopefuls would often fight amongst themselves behind their instructors backs. They would weed out the week themselves. Bullying and hazing were taken to deadly levels.

During the last week of her trails, a group of hopefuls approached Luca intending to kill her. They felt as though her father's position had pushed her through the training and she wasn't qualified to graduate.
