Nausinous began his life, or what little he can recall of it, as a child in an orphanage. It was a decent life, he believed, and he never once complained about how life was in that place. Sharing a room with twenty other children might seem a bit awkward and frightening to others, but Nausinous didn't mind much at all.

Then came a day when a woman arrived at the orphanage, one that Nausinous guessed to be around fifty. She stood tall and proud, and looked out over all of the children like one of the great statues of heroes that Nausinous had seen in old picture books. However, when her gaze fell upon Nausinous, she gave him the oddest look he had ever been given. Here eyes grew three sizes when she was told his name.

Of course, this woman decided to adopt Nausinous, and took him back to her home... or rather, her extremely large castle-shaped mansion. Nausinous had never seen anything like it, and was scared witless of much of the house for the first week or two that he lived there. Particularly an old black stone bookcase, which he swore inwardly looked as though it would eat him alive.

Life in the mansion, other then the scary things, was actually pretty nice. A butler to make meals, maids to clean up the assorted things that Nausinous had a habit of breaking. It was a great life for the child. However, that old bookcase still frightened him greatly. And so, he decided on one dark and stormy night, he would face it.

And so, at roughly eleven at night, the nine-year-old Nausinous stood before the bookcase. Each and every book upon it was black, like the black teeth of a black beast that was ready, willing, and able to chew him up and swallow him... well, that is, except for one book. One white book in a dense blackness, a book that seemed to shine like a light in the darkest night.

For reasons that he himself continues to not understand, Nausinous reached up and tried to pull the book down. That very instant was when the floor under him split open, and Nausinous plummeted downward. He was eventually caught by a metal slide, which slowly leveled off, leaving him in a rather small secret base.

And there stood the old woman at a computer, wearing a pair of tight red tights with a line of light blue down either side. She turned around to find Nausinous there, and Nausinous was quick to notice the A upon her chest, and the red mask over her eyes.

In hindsight, Nausinous probably should have acted more surprised that his adopted mother was a superhero, but between the way she carried herself and the respect that she commanded both consistently and constantly made her just seem the heroic type. Either that, or Nausinous was still a bit off-camber after the long fall he had just had.

For the years that followed, Nausinous became the old woman's sidekick, helping to defend the city from criminals as best they could. However, after a while, the old woman decided that she would soon retire from being a hero, and asked Nausinous to take over as the lead hero of the city.

Nausinous refused.

Nausinous felt that he was still not ready to take on the roll of keeping the city safe. The old woman had actual super powers, but Nausinous was just an athletic young man with a bit of martial arts training. How could he possibly protect an entire city by himself?

So, Nausinous moved to Paragon City, and began to train under the best teachers and fight some of the worst criminals that he could ever find. Here, he would gain in ability until he would finally be strong enough, even if only in his own mind, to protect his hometown.

Over his first two weeks in the city, Nausinous stayed in two motels, one in Galaxy City and one in King's Row, before just recently finding a nice place to stay in Skyway City. The view's not great and the monorail rattles past every few minutes, but it was cheap, and that was all that Nausinous cared about.

One last thing, and it's probably nothing important, but a mythology professer that Nausinous saved from the Circle of Thorns had the oddest reaction upon learning his name.
