Story

Several years ago, Dar-Ek, a scientist on the planet Krudonia, discovered that the sun's core had become unstable, and was about to explode. He had been preparing for this event, but he had miscalculated the time it would take for the core to nova. By the time the end had come, Dar-Ek had only completed a miniature prototype of the starship he had been working on. Dar had planned to escape in with his family, but with the new information, he realized that wouldn't be possible. Unable to bear the thought of his newborn son perishing, Dar-Ek, and his wife Sal placed the infant, Derr in the seat of the prototype ship, and said goodbye to the baby, as he was launched into the unforgiving void of space.

As the tiny craft left the doomed world behind, the Auto-Nav computer came online, destination EARTH. Upon activation, the computer activated the FTL drive, and as the ship attempted to enter subspace, the sun exploded, causing a spatial conflict with the subspace field, and the ship was sent through a rip in the space/time continuum.

As the onboard computer struggled to compensate for the cataclysmic disruption to its systems, the tiny vessel floated farther away from the rift. Suddenly, another ship rocketing towards some unknown destination, was drawn off course by the distortion, and the new ship collided with the Krudonian craft. Fortunately, both ships were constructed extremely well, and neither spaceship was damaged, but it caused the new ship to go back on course, and the baby Derr-Ek's ship to fly back though the dimensional rift.

Once back through the dimensional tear, the ship's computer was able to get the ship back on course, continuing on to Earth, where it crashed landed on a small farm, near Littleton, USA. Baby Derr-Ek was found by Harry and Barbara Dent, a middle-aged couple that were unable to have children of their own. Seeing this as a "sign from above" the couple adopted the baby, and raised him as their own son, calling him Derrick, after his Krudonian name, which the ships computer had told them, in English, before the power cell on the ship stopped functioning. Derrick grew up as a normal earth child would, the only difference being his awesome powers. Under the secret tutelage of his new parents, Derrick learned to use his powers for good, and was taught the values and morals of a Midwestern American family.

After several years, even though he loved his adopted parents, he longed to someday leave the small farm, and go to the big city to make his fortune, but knew he would have to stay and help his aging parents for many years with the farm. Unfortunately, when Derrick turned 18, both of his parents were killed in a car accident. Derrick, with no interest in being a farmer, and not wanting to be reminded of his loss, saw no reason to try and keep the family farm, so he sold it to a neighbor, and set off for Urbanopolis. He went to school, and got his degree in journalism. Soon after, Derrick landed a job with the Daily Post.

Derrick had many adventures, and met many others with powers rivaling his own. He attempted several times to get them to form a team of do-gooders, but the others weren't as convinced that this "force of justice" would work. So, he continued to fight for justice, in the manner that he parents had taught him.

Roughly 5 years ago, Derrick was offered a better job by the Paragon City Post, and he moved to the bustling burg, finding an even greater challenge to both his journalism skills, and his crime fighting persona. This time, he was able to found his team of heroes, the Justice Force, and together with his new team mates, fight to uphold justice for the innocent, in the shadow of crime and evil, in Paragon City, the City of Heroes.
