Invulnerability
Energy Melee
Mr. American uses a pair of titanium re-enforced gauntlets that amplifiy kinetic energy.
Fighting
Mr. American competed in Golden Gloves boxing as a youth and was part of the Army boxing team. Rick would have participated in the Tokyo Summer games as a heavyweight contender if he had not been “busy” elsewhere. He has also picked up and combined a few other martial art styles in his own fashion. Nothing beats a good old boot to the solar plexus.
Fitness
Rick has a daily routine of weights, running, and kickboxing. He also likes partipating in this thing that sprang up while he was on ice, triathlons.
Flight
Leadership
You learn more than just a little about motivation as an officer in the "Green Berets".
Science or Technology
There is a fine line between science and technology and a great demonstration of that line is Mr. American’s ability to take a blow and keep going. Is his increased cellular density which allows him to shrug of most hits the results of technology (cryogenic encapsulation) or science (the series of shots Rick participated in prior to and during the Antarctic training)? Since most of the information concerning the immunization trial was lost in the 1974 records fire, Mr. American has been classified as a technology based hero based upon the gauntlets he uses and the cryogenic encapsulation (technology) that he went through.

Character History
Born December 7, 1941, Richard Jonathon Quentin turned out to be the first bit of good news many heard that day as his parents called family and friends unaware of what had happened while they were in the hospital. With both grandfathers who fought in World War I, his father and three uncles who fought in World War II, one of those uncles and two cousins who fought in Korea, young Rick Quentin grew up listening to patriotic war stories at family reunions. Always seeking to do better both academically and athletically, this high school and collegiate All-American and Golden Gloves competitor knew what he wanted to do something before he was asked “what you can do for your Country”. Graduating from MIT with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1963, a newly commissioned Second Lieutenant Quentin joined a burgeoning Army outfit, the “Green Berets”. Assigned a position as an “Intelligence Gatherer Operative”, Rick was taught several European languages and his boxing skills were further honed with other hand-to-hand fighting skills. In 1966, Rick went to Antarctica to undergo extreme cold-weather training where something went wrong during training. Placed in a cryogenic slumber, his body was shipped back to the States, where the Government told his mother he had died. Rick was left frozen for 35 years, mainly due to bureaucrats being unable to agree on what to do with him. In 2002, Rick was awakened and assigned to anti-terrorism due to the fact that he had been off the intelligence grid for so many years. After receiving several months of training on what had happened over the last 35 years, Rick was outfitted with a pair of energy gauntlets designed by Crey Laboratories. The gauntlets help protect his hands (part of the accident in Antarctica) and transfer power from his body movements into his blows. Rick’s body underwent a cellular transformation during the cryogenic freezing, becoming denser and allowing him to withstand meta-human strength blows. “Mr. American” was “released” from government service after Congress cut funding for this covert operation after 3 years. Mr. American has since moved on to Paragon City to bring some American justice to a city in need.
Trivia
Rick picked up “Mr. American” from the techs that revived him, based upon the accomplishments of his youth and the prevailing patriotic sentiments of the public at the time of his thawing and training.
