The buxom bruiser called The Offering proves to be something of a paradox for the men who survive their encounters with her. While her otherworldly curves often insinuate her into their dreams, the glee with which she dispatches her enemies ensures her a place in their nightmares as well.
Her name explains both her origin and her purpose: her own sacrifices have earned her the gifts of many demonic agents, while she sustains her claim to their power and knowledge by offering them the souls of those who stand in her way.

Powers
The exact nature of The Offering's diabolical patrons is unclear, even to her. They may be extraterrestrial, extradimensional, or truly supernatural entities; all The Offering really cares about is that they have responded to the forbidden names she has used to call upon them. With a permanent link established by the rituals used to bind herself to them, she can draw upon their malignant will to cause her victims endless suffering and torment.
Demonic Channeling
Just a touch is enough to give the demons access to her victim's spirit, distracting them with the whispers of the damned as she pounds them into submission with a strength that amplifies as her victim's soul draws nearer to submission.
Shroud of Torment
The Offering retains a portion of the vitality and spirit of the foes she crushes, which manifests about her body as a seething aura of blood red energy which diffuses the impact of incoming attacks. It can also magically transmute the kinetic energy of assaults into further suffering for the captive souls. This means of sharing her own pain, suffered gladly to satisfy her demonic patrons, allows her to ensure that a soul she has claimed is held in a perpetual cycle of torment to please those forces. It is also an important factor in her ability to remain relatively in control of her power.
Abilities
Occult Researcher
Carolyn De Carlo developed a fascination with magic and the occult at a very early age. It was not until her teenage years that she began to delve seriously into the study of things better left unknown, however, as mounting dissatisfaction with mainstream occultism led her to pursue ever darker channels of study. While she now knows firsthand that there are indeed malevolent forces exerting their will on this plane, she remains fairly well versed in both mainstream and more arcane occult pursuits.
Ritual Summoning
Carolyn's particular field of expertise as a sorceress is that which concerns the summoning of otherworldly agents into our own reality using complex and often dangerous rituals. She has neither the innate talent nor the rigorous dedication to master the instantaneous casting of memorized spells, but very few sorcerers of her generation can dominate the forces of the Netherworld through ritual as effectively as she.
Tarot Reading
Carolyn has read the Tarot for about fifteen years. She does not regard the cards as possessing any inherent mystical power; her research has carried her far beyond gypsy tricks and games. Still, she enjoys the activity and does not deny the usefulness of the cards in manipulating others. She keeps a small deck on her person at all times to turn to for inspiration or amusement as the mood strikes.
Weaknesses and Limitations
The raw demonic power The Offering channels takes a severe toll on her physical well-being, and what she can be said to possess of mental well-being. As her bloodlust carries her through one of her sacrificial rampages, she becomes weary and incautious, and loses sight of what remains of her own humanity. When this psychic exhaustion strikes her, she is less in control of the forces she channels -- her shroud of torment is consumed by the hungering legion which drives her and her own personality may be subsumed by these eaters-of-the-damned.
Background
Personality
Her indifference to the frustrations and sufferings of others is pure, not affect. She is simply solipsistic, to such an extent that she may even be mistaken for autistic. Other human beings only interest her as playthings, objects which exist for her amusement and entertainment. At best she may acknowledge their potential for her empowerment through their sacrifice -- only the powers that she serves receive her respect and adoration. She is capable of masking her true outlook, and often does so in the maintenance of her secret identity.
Secret Identity
Carolyn de Carlo is more or less an employee in her uncle's occult bookshop in Port Oakes. She is provided with room and board upstairs and a locked workshop in the basement, and in return she will occasionally man the counter, manage inventory, or perform tarot readings for customers. Though "Carolyn" died years ago as far as she herself is concerned, she maintains the cover to provide herself time to recover from her exhausting carnal binges, and to have a place to lay low when her rampages draw too much attention from the local authorities.
((Player Notes))
- My token ridiculously proportioned comic book chick.
- Originally designed to look like one of the artist Coop's Devil Girls, I found she looked more interesting as a costumed human, especially once I figured out an inverted cross costume.
- Her real name is a nod to the original portrayers of Morticia Addams & Lily Munster (Carolyn Jones & Yvonne De Carlo).
- Desperate to free up a slot, I deleted The Offering and put the name out on the Virtue Name Watch 4 days before Lighthouse announced that purchasable slots were in the works.
- After seven months I found I was just NOT able to think of a better name to remake this character under, but I know from posts I've spotted here and there since freeing up the name that the player who got it is very much enjoying it (I felt a definite pang of regret, with a hint of pride, when I read Offering had hit 50). Finally I gave in to temptation: Carolyn lives again as "Offering.". I don't feel quite so dirty about it as I would for any other name since I had it first. :P
