From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe, also known as "UHVU" or "VirtueVerse" is a library of fan created original content for City of Heroes/Villains MMORPG genre. Our goal is to provide a place to post, share, and develop content including player created character biographies, character stories, supergroups, villain groups, locations, equipment, and more.
As a whole VirtueVerse is a collaborative fan created and edited project developed by volunteers. It is an ongoing work that anyone who is a part of the City of Heroes / Villains community is welcome to contribute to, it is currently host to 10,012 articles, and 2,285 users. The project utilizes the open source Mediawiki software and is maintained by 16 volunteer sysops.

History
On April 2, 2007 Deathspider presented the idea of an unofficial guidebook (ala the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe) to the Virtue server forums of the City of Heroes/Forums official forums[1]. A mere two days after the idea was fielded and discussion began, Kadekawa surprised everyone with a fully functioning wiki.
Since that time VirtueVerse has grown steadily, and in October of 2010 it was moved to a brand new server belonging to Ransim. The new server offered VirtueVerse more space to grow, a newer version of Mediawiki and a handful of new features including the addition of Widgets and ReCaptcha.
With the resurrection of City of Heroes in April 2019, Virtueverse has opened up to welcome the community as a whole to use the platform to document their heroic or evil exploits and characters.

Basic Guidelines & VirtueVerse Etiquette
- The Golden Rule: Treat others as you would have them treat you, its really that simple.
- Be polite! Remember that raw text on the screen is ambiguous and often seems ruder then it is meant to be. Text comes without facial expressions, vocal inflection or body language. Be careful of the words you choose, as what you intended might not be what others perceive, and what you read might not be what the author intended.
- Sign and date your posts to talk pages (not articles!). Let people know who is leaving them a message. This is easily done by following your comment with ~~~~
- Always work towards an agreement when in dispute. It does no on any good to argue for arguments sake.
- Remain civil, even when others are not.
- Apologize. There is nothing wrong with apologizing, and its often the easiest way to cool off a heated discussion.
- Give Praise! People love to hear when you like their stuff, let them know on their Talk pages.
- Stop taking it so seriously. No one is going to win the interwebs war. You can easily step out of any argument, close any page, or walk away before it gets out of hand.
- Edit with care and respect your fellow players. This goes along with the golden rule, don't edit content that is not your own, and don't vandalize the work of others. Whether you like it or agree with it, someone spent a long time putting effort into their page.
- Respect other user's boundaries. If a player asks you to leave reference to their character out of your page, do so. If you object to your character's representation on someone else's page, please contact the page author through their User_talk: page or in-game to request the reference be removed politely; do not make unauthorized edits to other user's articles. If you feel the offending content constitutes intentional harassment directed at you, the player, contact a Category:Sysop to have the situation reviewed.
What the VirtueVerse Is Not
VirtueVerse is and online repository collecting original thought and information developed by individual players, there are however several things that Virtueverse is not.
- Your Soapbox
- VirtueVerse is not a soapbox, a battleground, or a vehicle for propaganda and advertising. This applies to articles, categories, templates, talk page discussions, and user pages. If you do not agree with content another user has posted VirtueVerse is not the place to air your grievance.
- A Manual, guidebook, or textbook
- Content here is original player content and not considered to be canonical. Likewise no articles should consist of purely canonical information for reference and we urge everyone to provide links to ParagonWiki where necessary instead of reproducing official content.
- Censored
- VirtueVerse may contain content that some readers consider objectionable or offensive. Anyone reading VirtueVerse can edit an article and the changes are displayed instantaneously without any checking to ensure appropriateness, so VirtueVerse cannot guarantee that articles or images are tasteful to all users or adhere to specific social or religious norms or requirements.
- Obviously inappropriate content (such as an irrelevant links to a shock site, or obvious defacement of a page) are usually removed immediately. Some items may include objectionable text, or images if they are relevant to the content (such as mature, erotic and adult themed player concepts and accompanying artwork) and do not violate any of our existing policies, or the policies of our hosting provider.
