Death of a Criminal, Birth of a Mad Man

Eric Chalmers was a man down on his luck. Little money, poor living conditions, and a job that ultimately could only barely support him. So it came as no surprise, to try and make ends meet, he turned to crime. Something that wasn't easy to pull off when your home was in a place known as the City of Heroes. He was small time in the criminal world, ultimately being nothing more than an errand boy for the various criminal groups that needed someone not directly connected to them for some dirty work. He did it all... Robbery, arson, vandalism, even murder if it meant he could make a little extra cash to help get him by. Eventually, like any criminal though, he got caught.

While trafficing a low level drug shipment for The Family, he was intercepted by a fledgling hero that had been looking into the drug ring that supplied Eric with his shipment. As such, it didn't take long for him to be arrested and sent to the Zig as an accomplice. It was here he spent a good month of his time amongst the other inmates before being approached by a legal representative for Crey Industries that expressed interest in the "non-super" types. Stating that any willing participants would be free to leave the Zig as property of Crey for the purpose of furthering Crey's Paragon Protector program.

Seeing this as an opportunity to start anew for himself, Eric readily agreed to join the program. When he was finally released and brought to Crey Industries, it wasn't long before work had begun being done on him. Various experiments, injections, and radiation exposure were done to Eric. During this time, he learned just how cold and precise Crey scientists can be as each experiment and enhancement he was given became more and more painful than the last, yet not so much that it left him unable to respond to anything that was done to him. In time, the mutations began to happen with each passing procedure until finally Eric was reduced to an almost completely skeletonized, radioactive creature. All the pain and suffering he willingly, foolishly agreed to subject himself to had finally taken its toll. Finally.... He snapped.

Rampage

It wasn't quite apparent right away to the scientists, that the procedures they were performing were taking their toll on Eric's psyche. What was apparent, was the constant energy and radioactivity Eric's body was now emitting, forcing the scientists to wear hazmat suits around him when they worked. Not until they equipped him with his hazard armor did such things become notable. Believing themselves able to continue to test and experiment with Eric once his energies he was now unconsciously emanating had been contained, they removed their suits to continue working, and it was here that Eric made his first move. With the power Crey had given him, he violently lashed out at the first of the scientists. By the time the security teams reached the attack, Eric had already killed the research team, wasting no time on working on murdering security next, since they just happened to be in the room. It felt good... Felt REALLY good. To use that power he had on people that couldn't stop him. He enjoyed it, and his fractured psyche was telling him that it was a feeling he should experience as much as possible. Easy enough to do as more security started to move in to try and stop the now atomically charged mad man that was moving through Crey's halls. Unfortunately, while Crey's forces were prepared for many super powered threats, the threat of what was later described as a marauding, "Atomic Revanent" wasn't one of them. One by one, Crey's men were brutally killed by Eric as he made his way to the buildings exit, and finally, when all was said and done, flew off into the horizon cackling madly.

The Rogue Islands

Despite his insanity, Eric, or as he was now known as, Atomic Revanent, was still in control of his thoughts enough that he knew he couldn't stick around Paragon City any longer without having some serious problems on his hands. So he went to the one place where he could continue to "play" with the people he met. The Rogue Islands. It was here he began to truly make a name for himself, and it was here, people really began to fear him.
