Character History
Born in London in 1841, Bethany married the charming and confident Count Alexander Rotefurt at the age of 19. They were extraordinarily happy together and Alexander saw to it that she wanted for nothing - until one day she was stricken with a wasting illness. She did her best to comfort her husband, but slowly lost the ability to speak, and then slipped into a coma.
She underwent many painful medical procedures as he tried to preserve and restore her, in time being kept alive solely by the action of Alexander's ingenious machines. His experiments took a darker turn as he became more desperate, but even the most extreme measures were for naught; ultimately he froze Bethany along with himself to await the discovery that would allow her to live again.
The next thing she knew she was alive again, able to think and speak - but trapped within the nightmarish, plasmic form of a Shivan monster. When the monster escaped she was forced to watch, helpless to control it as it rampaged and fed upon the living. The nightmare ended when she was taken down by Ouroboros agents, and she hoped never to wake up.
Yet awaken she did, to find herself changed once again; her proportions human, her body covered with a strange shiny and brightly patterned skin, her face a sinister mask. This was the containment suit Ouroboros had built to control her Shivan body.
There were more surprises in store when she learned that she had a daughter, after a fashion, in Eventhil, and that Eventhil was responsible for her transformation. She didn't hesitate in accepting her new daughter, despite the things Eventhil had done.

She can extrude bony spurs of deadly Shivan tissue, and the years of her ordeal have made her incredibly tenacious.

Weaknesses and Limitations
While she has no difficulty controlling her Shivan form in the future, if her containment suit is ruptured in the modern era she could again become the helpless monster she was. She's forever exiled from her own 18th century era, and sometimes has trouble adjusting. She's extremely forgiving and understanding; perhaps too forgiving for her own good. Her loyalty to Alexander and Eventhil could be considered a weakness, but she wouldn't see it that way.
