Basic School Statistics

Though we try as hard as we can to present a realistic setting there are always a few little questions people tend to have to try and make a mental picture. How many students are there that AREN'T PCs? How does this school rank with other schools in the area in sports? In academics? How full are our classrooms? Because we believe the more you know the easier it is to roleplay please use this page as a resource for basic school information.

Daily Schedule

BHPS works from a modified block schedule. On Mondays and Wednesdays students attend their A block; typically English/Math/Elective and on Tuesdays and Thursdays students attend their B block; typically History/Science/Elective; Fridays see a mixed block. Lunch is divided into two sections with one group in the gym and then in the cafeteria before switching with the other group in the library so they can have gym and cafeteria time.

There is a non-mandatory breakfast from 5:30 to 7:00 am offered by the school that many students attend.

  • 7:30 to 7:55 Homeroom
  • 8:00 to 9:45 First Course
  • 9:50 to 11:25 Second Course
  • 11:30 to 12:10 Lunch 1 / Gym (Lunch 2: Reading)
  • 12:15 to 12:55 Lunch 1 / Gym (Lunch 1: Reading)
  • 12:55 to 2:30 Third Course
  • 2:35 to 3:00 Training and Power Control

Friday Scheduling is as such; typically testing is done on Friday much to the dismay of students, though, the group lunch is typically some of the best food the school has to offer.

  • 7:30 to 7:55 Homeroom
  • 8:00 to 8:45 Reading

Competitive Sports

Due to a wonderful alumni association, BHPS has funding to participate in a wide-variety of competitive sports. Athletics are deemed an equally important part of the school curriculum and many students participate in at least one or two sports over the course of the year. While many of the teams have only started up again recently, the Blackston Saints are looking to try and make their name through their division as being another contender. Due to its small size it only participates in a few sports.

Clubs and Organizations

BHPS participates in only a few clubs and organizations due, again, to its small size. While efforts are made to try and increase the amount of clubs and activities that are offered a few seem to have persisted year after year. The school continues to encourage new clubs to open.

Subjects

The subjects here are on a 1 through 7 scale, with 7 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. All of the school subjects at Blackstone can be grouped into one of these categories with the exception of "Heroism" which is a non-graded, pass fail course better handled through RP. Grades and finals are roughly determined through two standard metrics, a combination between one's attributes and the place they put each class on a scale:

(12-11) A, (10-8) B, (7-6) C, (5-3) D, (2-1) F

Grades are Diligence + Class
Finals are Knowledge + Class

For example: Jane's character, Sarah, has a Diligence of 2. She ranks her classes: Arts, Science, Physical Education, Math, English, Metahuman Studies, Social Studies. This means without studying or extra credit Sarah could expect to get B's in Arts and Science, C's in Phys Ed and Math and D's in her other classes - it just isn't easy for Sarah to always remember to do the extra work sometimes and that's a fantastic RP opportunity for Jane to play Sarah meeting other people to help her study or her growth in trying to remember to follow up on her work.

Conversely, Sarah has a knowledge of 5. She has an amazing memory for things. For her finals she gets As in Arts and Science, Bs in Phys Ed, Math and English, and C's in Metahuman Studies and Social Studies. What a turn around - Sarah's teacher's probably wonder why such a smart girl has such a hard time turning in homework.

Overall Score can be determined should someone wish by adding the two sets of points together.

(24 to 21) A, (20 to 15) B, (14 to 11) C, (10 to 6) is a D, Below 5 is failing

Back to our Sarah example at the end of the year we can see that she has the following scores: A in Art, B's in Science, Physical Education, and Math, C's in English and Metahuman Studies and a single D in Social Studies. A pretty reasonable spread.

This is NOT meant to represent the end all-be all to students grades so much as an idea of where their grades would be if they were to just coast through their classes. Its meant to help represent what areas a student who is trying to get all As should RP needing to work to pass and build opportunities as well. We trust players to be generally realistic with what their characters can do or achieve with study and effort - or with lack of effort and a lack of studying and believe these guidelines will help give a better day to day idea and will help shape RP. After some math testing we discovered that this gave even the most diligent students a subject they would have to work hard at and every student one subject where they were just able to do well - which fits the theme of our school.
