History:

In the last, desperate days of World War II, the 3rd Reich’s best scientists finally perfected their top secret uber-soldat (super-soldier) program. Unfortunately for them, the subject they chose to receive the honor of being its first recipient was August Berger, an infiltrator from the small but dedicated German resistance movement known as “The White Rose”. While his compatriots in the resistance were primarily pacifist in nature and devoted themselves to the dessimination of subervise leaflets, Berger chose a different path. Working undercover, his quick wit and “pure” Aryan features (blond hair and blue eyes) allowed him to rise quickly in rank, first as a member of the Hitler Youth and eventually in Himmler’s SS, all the while biding his time and waiting for the opportunity to strike a blow against Fascism.

That day came when he was chosen to become the Nazi’s ultimate weapon, a true Aryan “uber-mensch” that could move and strike like lightning: Blitzkrieg. The perperation for this included countless hours of rigorous physical conditioning and hand-to-hand combat instruction from reknowned a martial artist Hideo Kitano, on loan from the Japanese imperial army. Once he was deemed ready, Berger was led to a bunker deep below the streets of Berlin, where the Nazi scientists injected him with a mysterious solution and instructed him to step into an ominous-looking chamber fashioned out of glass and steel.

Berger emerged from that chamber endowed with speed, strength and physical durability far beyond that of normal men. Immediately he devoted his his new powers to taking down Hitler and his henchmen, destroying the lab and delivering the scientists into the hands of American troops, but not before engaging his teacher, Kitano, in an epic battle from which he barely emerged victorious. Blitzkrieg was born, but not as his creators had expected.

While America’s patriotic heroes were fighting on the front lines, Berger was fighting it from within the very heart of Germany, trying to end the war as quickly as possible and thereby preserve as many of the lives of his countrymen as he could. Armed with only his fists, cunning intellect and boundless courage he did just that, but his valor went mostly unrecorded in history as the Nazis denied his existence and the Allies heard nothing about him save the occasional rumors of American troops coming across entire platoons of freshly bruised, unconscious German soldiers.

It was in a bombed out Berlin, in the very last day before the German surrender, that Blitzkrieg made a rare tactical error. He was pursuing the war criminal Ridolfo Uzzano (aka. Requiem) into the gutted remains of an old warehouse and walked straight into a Fifth Column trap, dropping through a trapdoor and right into the waiting maw of a Cryo-chamber, which froze him instantly. The 5th Column moved Blitzkrieg to one of their hidden bases to study him in hopes of deciphering the secret of the Nazi supersoldier process.

In an embarassing clerical error, Berger’s body was misplaced and forgotten for decades, until after the Rikti invasion when it was rediscovered. The Cryo-chamber encasing him was being moved from one base to another when the truck carrying it was in a major accident. The chamber was thrown from the back of the vehicle and Berger soon found himself thawed out most unceremoniously in the streets of Paragon City. It had been 60 years since the day of his imprisonment, yet to him 1945 was only just yesterday.

A man literally out of a time capsule, Berger has adjusted as best he can to this new country and century. He now fights crime and opression in Paragon City alongside the superhero team Gods of the Golden Age, as in the past going where he is needed most. His goal is to be a living testament to the courage and compassion of his fallen comrades in The White Rose, carrying the torch of their undying dream for freedom, justice and peace.

Strength level:

Blitzkrieg possesses strength average for a man his age, weight and height who engages in a regular intensive physical training.

Known superhuman powers:

The primary effect of the Nazi uber-soldat process, Blitzkrieg is endowed with lightening-quick speed of movement and reflexes which greatly enhance his martial arts prowess. A secondary effect of the process was an increase in molecular density which, while not rendering him completely invulnerable, has made his body considerably more durable and resilient than that of a normal human, highly resistant to guns, knives, blunt trauma and the elements.

Other abilities:

Excells at hand-to-hand combat, acrobatics, and can leap to great heights.

Limitations:

Vulnerable to psionic attacks.

Paraphernalia:

Berger wears a modified version of the Blitzkrieg costume, supplied to him by the scientists who invented the process, made out of a special material that is lightweight yet extremely durable. Originally fitted with wrist guns and elbow blades, he stripped it of all weaponry and had his sister Katharina, a talented chemist and seamstress, change the colors from the Nazi red, black, and white to green and gold. He also has one in the colors of the German national flag - red, black and gold.

Weapons/Arsenal:

None.

Trivia:

Loves Swing music and dancing, old movies and beer. Suffers from periodic nightmares and insomnia related to his experiences during the Dresden bombing.
