The Blitzkrieg Agents Project

During the WWII, many of the non-nazi military agencies went secret, to perform tests and research. One of these agencies was G.S.F.U., short for German Special Forces Unit. Being in the country for some decades, their project at that time was to develop their agents to be super-soldiers. Not only they should be highly intelligent to adequate their tactics to their missions, but they should have enough physical and mind preparation to withstand the human limits of pain, resistance, fatigue, and others. The initial project selected 3 of the most skilled military officers for tests. Their names, world records, relatives, everything was taken from them to dedicate themselves to it.

After being exposed to numerous radiations, electroshocks and substance injections, they developed 3 highly-enpowered agents, who would later be known as "The 3 Generals". They carried on their names due to their superior success on missions and assignments. Hidden from the Nazi goverment, the project went on, until Nazis broke into their facility.

The 3 Generals fought with their incredible intelligence and strength. They were highly resistant to injuries, like bullets and explosions, and withstanded their assault bravely, together with all of the other agency's officers. The battle was won, but they knew they couldn't linger on their position.

Escaping to West Germany, the agency installed in a wrecked Allied building, with the approval of the U.S. government. In exchange, they would later request projects and agents to deal with "internal issues" in Rhode Island.

After the WWII, research went on and new super-agents were selected. Like the 3 Generals, all their records from the normal world were deleted. This time, 4 officers were selected. One of them, known as "Agent Onyx" at first, was one of them. Not much was known about his past, other than he was one of the top mercenaries in Europe, entered the army to avoid being arrested for numerous murders. These officers would be tested, and then would receive the codename "The German Blitzkrieg".

This 1st generation of agents were known for highly-specialized agents, each being a master in their work. Their identity to the normal world would be hidden, and they would act as civilians in rare occasions. They would be heroes without an identity, without a cross-life. Of all 4 agents, only one would act as their voice and face.

The 2nd generation was codenamed "Blitzkrieg II". These 5 agents, unlike the 1st generation, were much younger. Their specialization was their general works. Each agent works as a cell, and every cell can act in the place of another, if such cell isn't working. Their identity would not matter, as long as their name are spread around Paragon City. Such name, the Blitzkrieg, would be known in Paragon, so the more flashy their works, the better. Their work in conjunction with the 1st generation currently is quite explosive; while one considers the other "kids with diapers", the other considers the one "pedestal-standing bastards". However, they know that they will only succeed in being wide-known heroes is by working together with them. The reason why the sudden change in plans by GSFU with this project, is unknown.

Shadow's Training and Preparation

Agent Onyx endured trainings and simulations of close and ranged combat, stealth and spying missions, information gathering, counter-spying and survival, together with studies of the human body, like medicine, psycology, teology and world languages. The agency scientists and researchers were quite impressed with his results, and after 2 years, they issued his first mission: kill a gang leader in Berlin.

Infiltrate into the gang and knowing his weakness was easy, but Agent Onyx had a major flaw: overconfidence. Besides being instructed to study the target for some weeks, on the 4th day since the beggining of the mission, he attempted to kill him. Armed with a hidden retractable armblade, he impaled the back of his neck in front of his other 2 bodyguards. Agent Onyx managed to escape, but he was wounded by many gunshots.

The Sheoul Entity

Going back to the agency base, and after many months of recovery, Agent Onyx was issued to perform minor missions, which led him to actually question his skills into such minor tasks. In his 5th year after the start of his training, he was sent to Greece to recover an artifact known as "Hades' Obsidian". Hidden beneath Athens' ruins, he departed "to grab a lousy trinket from rubble".

Arriving at the ruins, he found a secret passage, leading to an underground cave. After some time searching, he found a pitch-black statue of man sitting on his throne, with a bird-headed staff. Reading the inscriptions on the ground, he read: "Εδω ανηκει ενας υπηρετης του Αδη, ο Θεος του Ταρταρον" (Here rests a servant of Hades, the God of Tartarus).

Upon touching the statue, a bright flash was made, and the statue crumbled to dust. An entity with no light to emanate, but a black, swirling gleam was found. "I'm Sheoul, a servant of Hades. You, mortal, freed me from my obsidian prison. As a token of my gratitude, I'll grant you the Embrace of Tartarus". Visibly confused, Agent Onyx thought of asking a question, but before he could, the entity answered back: "Tartarus is known as many names. Hell, Netherworld, Underworld. You shall receive the power to control a limited power over it. Your soul will be bond to it, and you will never fear anything. Instead, it's your enemies who will..."

After dissappearing into a faux-black hole, a seam of pitch-black energy entered into Agent Onyx's chest. Agonizing and screaming a terrorizing shriek, Agent Onyx now was empowered with the Sheoul entity's power. Near his feet, a big and heavy obsidian stone. Examining carefully, the following inscription was set to it: "Η πετρα του Ταρταρον, Αδη "Οψιανος" (The stone of the Tartarus, Hades' Obsidian).

Arriving at the agency with his newly acquired powers, Agent Onyx was now one of the top agents in G.S.F.U. Knowing of the incident, the 3 Generals recommended a total upgrade on his equipment, and assignment of more important missions. He was equipped with: - A pair of gloves made of Therium, a dark-green alloy with interesting characteristics. It never breaks, but it can bend. A blade made of Therium never needs to be repaired, since their atoms are so bonded together that they won't never separate. It melts at 10031º F, and after such state, it will only be restored at it's solid state again near absolute zero degrees. Such material was perfect for crafting small blades, since their size will prevent bending. Agent Onyx received a retractable blade on his able hand (His favourite covert ops. hand-to-hand weapon) and a dual-bladed claw on his offhand (For close combat and general purposes like climbing). They would sheath inside the gloves' holes by a command linked to Onyx's neural system: by engaging in close-combat, they would automatically unsheath. - A light carbon fiber body armor, composed of shoulder pads, chest armor, leg armor and boots. The weight is reduced to prevent hindering, and is flexible enough so that all possible human movements can be made without restriction. - A hood and mask to cover his true identity. His next mission would demand secrecy when needed.

After equipping, Agent Onyx received his briefing: he was to be sent to Paragon City, Rhode Island. His mission was to follow orders directly from the US Goverment and GFSU, when needed. The other 3 agents were to be sent with him, and they would be known as the "German Blitzkrieg". Agent Onyx was to receive the codename "Shadow". The other agents, were to receive, respectively, the codenames "Blade" (Agent Crimson, later to be confirmed as Shadow's half-brother, blood relatives by their deceased mother), "Spada" (Agent Platinum) and "Lightning" (Agent Farsight).

Sent to Paragon

Arriving in Paragon rightafter the Rikti War, Blitzkrieg Shadow, the name which he would use for his mission, installed himself at Faultline. Every agent was to receive a kind of mission and a location to estabilish. His base was an abandoned house, and from there he would receive instructions. The US military instructed all of them to report directly to Freedom Phalanx's superiors, and so they did. Shadow, being the shady agent, was issued with counter-spying missions in the Freedom Phalanx base, together with reports to PPD for general hero-doing stuff. A very popular quote between the agents was said by him: "We're not here to save people. We're here to repay our debt. Be it saving cats from the top of trees, or planting blades into aliens guts".

Now they all fight for Paragon City's safety, a token of gratitude of GSFU for the USA.

Personality

Almost with a dark sense of humour, Shadow is a combination of a person with spare self-confidance and strong sense of duty. His loyalty to his agency is very tight, meaning that sometimes he ponders if their course of action is the best, or his own. However, he has a very deep respect to the 3 Generals, and will even follow them to death if needed to.

Having no known relatives, other than his half-brother Blade, he forms strong bonds of friendship with allies pretty quickly. On the other side, being an ex-mercenary and assassin, he knows that when the time to take someone's life, there's no space for feelings.

Shadow is so contradicting that some heroes even question his loyalty to the "righteous side", due to his hidden past and Netherworld powers, sometimes even referring him as an "ex-Stalker". But all arguments are nullified when all his past actions redeem himself, such as saving hopeless citizens and arresting many villains, from street thugs to Rikti aliens.

It is unknown if Shadow will once again be a merc once Paragon City is safe again, or if he will go on with his duty as a super-hero. But one fact is true: the once single-minded spy and secret agent is now much more human than before.

Details of equipment, paraphernalia and miscellaneous stuff

As stated before, Shadow's claws are made of an unbreakable dark-green material called Therium. Although it has such properties, it can bend if the necessary strength is applied (calculated to be approximately the same strength needed to break a Titanium bar 10 times the weight and size of the material in question). As if made by plastic, once the bend is made, it returns to it's original position. Shadow's strength applied on his claws was enough that he never bent them, but duels with other villains made it bend a few times. His right-hand claw is a flat blade. Shadow was trained to use such weapon in covert operations, and since it's material is so strong, Shadow now uses it in every close-combat encounter. The blade was used so many times into assassinations and fights that Shadow fights with it as it was part of his body. His left-hand claw is a two-blade claw used mainly for blocking attacks, follow-ups and climbing purposes, but it's also used as a main attack. Shadow is almost ambidextrous, but his lack of specific training to his offhand claw leaves his attacks a bit weakened when he uses it. The claws, as mentioned before, retract and draw upon Shadow's will.

The claws are stored into his metal gloves, made of the same material and crafted to make it fully able for his hands to move without any restriction. It is not worn out like a piece of clothing; instead, it opens from it's bottom like a "hand-jacket". Once worn, it's closed by vacuum, and can only be taken off by Shadow himself, using the other hand to take it off. It's confusing nature once left Shadow to wear his metal gloves for weeks. It's weight is heavy enough to enchance Shadow's attack power in a good margin, without slowing them. Some of Shadow's attacks even use the gloves weight as a weapon, in overhead two-handed melee attacks. The combination of hard training, intense use of such heavy gloves and the Embrace of Tartarus to grant him extra strength, makes the perfect combination for very strong attacks unleashed by him.

His body armor is meant to be light and flexible, not to be his main part of protection. Instead, it acts in a secondary pattern. It is made of carbon fiber, and is flexible enough that Shadow never had any problems with hindering at all. The body armor is composed of two shoulder pads, a metal plate breast and abdomen armor (front side only, leaving him almost vulnerable from his back, explained later), leg armor including protection for thighs and knees, and boots made from the same material. Under his armor, he wears special tactic ops clothing, composed of a resistant fiber, colored black to match with Shadow's hood, made with the same material.

Although Shadow has cutting edge tech equipment, his main form of protection is from his Netherworld powers. The "Embrace of Tartarus" are several Netherworld spells chanted by Shadow on his mind. It drains his endurance when they're used, but they saved his life numerous times. They can, but are not limited to; draining life essence from nearby foes, protect Shadow from gunshots, melee weapons, thermal energy (low and high degrees), negative energy, eletric currents, psionic attacks, and others, seep negative energy as a damaging force, grant resistance from gravity to allow extra-high jumps, body reconstruction (his and others').

Shadow's means of communication with his agency's superiors is made by several radio devices. He often uses an ear communicator when needed, but on low-signal places, he uses a radio communicator similar to a cellphone. To Shadow's dismay, sometimes his Netherworld powers interrupts the transmissions slightly.

Although very rarely, Shadow salvages equipment used by defeated villains. Some include Jump Packs and Raptor Packs, motorcycles and a few useful devices like scanners and signal transmitters.

Relationship with Blade and Blitzkrieg Agents

After discovering that Blade is his half-brother, his bonds with Blade were increased. Working together whenever one needed the other, they often complement each other: while Shadow is specialized into "intelligent" combat more than head-to-head battles, Blade is much more suited for such jobs because of his innate "sixth sense" ability and reflexes. More than once, Shadow was saved by Blade with a hasted rescue.

Their personalities, although seemingly similar, crash one into another occasionally. Blade's distinct behaviour of trying to bite more than he can chew always lead into posterior arguments with Shadow, even more when Blade was near death after a Lost ambush. Shadow appeared right at the moment when Blade was about to be finished off. Since then, although such arguments appeared at the same frequency, were way more severe than before.
