Born Robert David Buford in the small town of Brookwood, Alabama, Buford as his friends called him, grew up on a path that looked to be one which would result in him becoming a villain than a hero. By the age of 12 he was already in trouble with the law for minor crimes such as petty theft and assault on a teacher. Then his mutant powers began to manifest. This made his parents fearful that their son would become a supervillain like the ones they had read about from the Rouge Isles. However fate play a hand when Buford was 16. A miner shaft which is father worked in collapsed and the entire community feared the worse. Rescurers tried their best to reach the trapped miners but feared they would not make it in time. That is when Buford appeared on the scene and revieled to the community his mutant powers by using them to burst his way to his father and other fellow miners, saving them all for a horrible death. This changed Buford to want to follow the path of a hero.
