Growing Up For Ryan Hammon

Burning Grave.jpg

Ryan Hammon.....Son of the the famous Doctor, Bernard Hammon. The man that was saving life's every day. The man that cured the Reo-Pox that spread across Ohio, and he was the man that they said would cure cancer someday. But then there was Ryan. The son of the famous doctor, the one that everyone thought would follow in his footsteps. But he didn't. Not even a little, in fact, he was known throughout the school and neighborhood as the kid you hate to have your kids be friends with. He was failing high school, always with the wrong girls and wrong crowd, and was finally suspended when he got drunk and attacked his science teacher. But no one really knew Ryan, they just would always compare him to his father. At first, Ryan did want to be a doctor like his father, he wanted to be just like him. But Ryan saw his father in a light that no one else did, he saw his father's drunken rampages at home. His father would never hit them, no, that would leave evidence. His father was way to smart for that. He would just break them down emotionally, leaving them in a worse mess than his patients when he brought his drink to work. Ryan always wondered why his father took to drinking, but he always assumed it was work related. All he really knew was that his life was a living hell, never knowing if his father would use his fists instead of his words, while the rest of the world saw him as a visionary genius. But things change, which is a fact that Ryan would just learn to deal with.

The Day It Happened, and The Years Of Fear Following.

He was 16 and the time, and tt was a couple of weeks after his suspension from high school. His mom had taken to homeschooling him until they found a new school. Of course, Ryan would still sneak out and party with his friends, but he would have to wait til night. Things weren't altogether that different for him, at least not yet. The day it happened was just another ordinary day, his mother was fixing supper for him and his 10 year old brother Trent, and his father was late from work. He was usually late from work, but it wasn't a good sign when he was this late. The later he came back, the angrier he was. As they were eating there meal, they heard the front door slam and the tread of heavy boots walking towards them. Their mother exchanged a glance at the boys, "Why don't you two go play some games?" Trent and he left the room and headed for the T.V. But Ryan turned around and hid behind the doorway, when he saw his father enter. His father was wearing a one of those yellow hazard suits, and it was covered in something that looked like blood. Ryan's mother began to cry, as if she knew exactly whose blood that was. Bernard grabbed her and told her not to cry, but she screamed and tried to get away. As she screamed, Trent ran past Ryan and started kicking his father in the leg to protect her. Bernard turned and hit the boy, sending him flying into the table. The room got silent as everyone heard the snap as Trent's neck hit the table.
