Captain Spectacular's Elevator Pitch is "What if Captain America's Super Soldier serum boosted his negative qualities, too?"
United States Army: 1941-1944 (MIA and Presumed Dead), Honorably Discharged, 2009
Captain Spectacular is generally an insufferable jerk to even his closest friends, and his opinion of his capabilities often exceeds his arguably wide ranging abilities and enhanced skills. That being said, he tries to be a team player, provided that everyone understands that he's in charge of the team. He's generally unaware of his effect on other people, and even when confronted with examples of his behavior, he tends to rationalize it as the grumblings of people jealous of his power.
In public, he's affable and even occasionally charming, but any conversation or interview longer than 15 minutes will almost certainly reveal his deep-seated narcissism.
The Soldier Supreme formula has turned Roger into a physical specimen that meets or exceeds the apex of human development. Specifically, his strength, agility, speed, endurance, and healing have been boosted to anywhere between 30% to 500% beyond human maximums. Unfortunately, these gifts were not without a price.
Captain Spectacular's enhanced balance, strength and agility have been honed through a strict regimen of acrobatic exercises, resulting in a grasp of combat acrobatics equal to, if not exceeding, any Olympic athlete.
In addition to making him much harder to hit in the midst of combat, it also grants him superior mobility on or near the ground. In urban environments, he can often "outrun" foes, even vehicles, through a series of shortcuts and direct-path routes unavailable at street level.
Hand to Hand combat
Captain Spectacular is skilled in multiple forms of hand-to-hand combat, including Boxing, Wrestling, and a sampling of several dozen martial arts techniques. While he lacks a mastery or even deep understanding of any particular combat style, the breadth of his skills, combined with his formidable physical talents, often puts him on equal footing with more disciplined martial artists.
Captain Spectacular carries with him an indestructible shield made of a rare alloy called Hitlerium. It was originally made by the Nazis in 1940, but the formula used to create it was lost when Captain Spectacular inadvertently triggered the laboratory's self destruct mechanism, killing everyone involved in its creation. All attempts to duplicate the shield's physical composition have failed.
The shield is approximately one meter wide and perfectly balanced, and Captain Spectacular has incorporated it seamlessly into his combat regimen. The fact that he has a shield made out of Hitlerium is a source of considerable shame for the Captain, and he has often gone into extensive, even contradictory explanations of its origin.
Weaknesses and Limitations
While the Soldier Supreme formula elevated Roger's physical form to superhuman levels, it also increased his ego as well. Roger is certain that he's stronger, faster, smarter, and generally better than anyone around him, even when confronted with obvious proof to the contrary. This makes him difficult to integrate into teams, and makes it almost impossible for him to follow orders.
Scrawny Roger Stevens was distraught when he found that he did not meet the physical requirements to assist his fellow countrymen during WWII. However, he quickly caught the eye of a high level recruiter, who fast tracked him for inclusion in the Soldier Supreme program, a fledgling endeavor to create superhuman soldiers for use in the war effort.
Against all odds, the experiment succeeded, and Roger was granted near physical perfection within a matter of days. He was given a nigh-indestructible shield and sent to the Front to face the Nazi menace head on.
Unfortunately, the serum that granted him super strength and super resilience also gave him a super ego, and he became such an arrogant, self-centered jerk that everyone around him grew to despise him. When he was lost and presumed dead in the North Sea, they were glad to be rid of him.
However, Roger was found and revived in 2009, and is eager to regain his (self-proclaimed) title of "America's Greatest Hero".
