Cherry Ice is a youngster in special studies at Paragon City's School for Gifted Youngsters. She was the only survivor of a fire that claimed her family in their home when was 13. Badly burned herself, she was treated at a Crey facility in order to save her life. That part worked, though the side effects were probably not authorized.
Paragon City's School for Gifted Youngsters
Cheri (pronounced Cherry, unlike what some might expect) was a reasonably good student with a reasonable family life. The only oddity was Aunt Mildred back in St Louis, who seemed to be getting odder and odder. But then, she was caught in the fire that destroyed her family home, and very nearly died in transport to the burn unit. Despite the medical advances made since the Rikti Wars, her situation was dire, and getting worse.
A Crey facility in Steel Canyon offered to attempt an experimental technique, still under development, in order to save the girl's life. Of course, this sort of thing is known by the cynical as a PR move, and that may have been true, but her father had worked as a low-level technician for Crey, and it might have been seen as a good move my his peers independently of the PR value. Regardless, someone managed to track down Aunt Mildred as the only available guardian for the girl, and got permission from the increasingly senile woman.
The results were not to the girl's liking. Oh, sure, she's alive, but she's very much changed. It's not clear whether she really even qualifies as human any more. Her metabolism has been altered in strange ways that give her regeneration as well as her fire and ice powers, but this has resulted in scales and lizard-like features, as well. She also bursts out into bits of super-heated air without meaning to, more or less as a process of waste elimination. This has not been a good thing for clothing or furniture.
