History

Sam Henderson became the first Commander Crimson when he discovered that he produce and direct fire at will. Commander Crimson fought the good fight for many years, using his abilities wherever he could to stop crime. Marrying his long time sweetheart, Ellen in 1945 upon his return from fighting overseas in the war, Sam continued his costumed career for a number of years.

In 1947, Sam and Ellen gave birth to their son, Michael. Always a family man, Sam had a harder and harder time justifying the risk he was putting himself into. Ellen was completely supportive of his choices, sharing his ideals for right and wrong, but had her share of worries for his safety.

In 1948, a long battle with the orgainized crime families in the Chicago area came to a head, when an ambush was set for Commander Crimson. Sam barely escaped, and was believed to have perished in the blast that leveled the warehouse. It took nearly 3 months to fully recover, and in that time Sam came to a decision. Packing the costume away for good, Sam retired as a hero. While his passion for justice was still strong, his devotion to his family was stronger - he could not bear the thought of leaving Ellen a widow and a single mother.

Nearly 25 years later, Michael now graduating with a degree in law married Blythe, whom he met in college. A year later, Jonas was born.

Still living in Chicago, Sam and Ellen were overjoyed when Michael and Blythe settled down in a neighborhood nearby. Sam, now a retired engineer, got the opportunity to spend countless hours with his grandson, Jonas.

When Jonas was 5, he went to spend a weekend with his grandparents, while Michael and Blythe took a small vacation together. Tragically, their plane crashed due to a malfunction. Jonas was adopted by Sam and Ellen, and grew up as close to them as a child would be to a parent.

Sam and Jonas had a bond from day one, but they both realized why when Jonas turned 12 and began manifesting his powers over fire. Sam had often spoke of his days as Commander Crimson, usually as great bedtime stories told to an excited child. Now those stories took on far more meaning - Sam began to shape Jonas' ways of thinking - instilling in Jonas the same sense of right and wrong that Sam still had after all these years. Jonas swore to his grandfather over and over again, that one day he would bring Commander Crimson back to action.

Sam passed away in 2005 after a few years of steady decline in his health. Executor of his will, Jonas was surprised to find that he had purchased burial plots in Paragon City, and wished to rest in "A true City of Heroes". Jonas and Ellen traveled to Paragon City to burry Sam, and Jonas immediately understood why his grandfather made this request.

Paragon City, was where Jonas could bring Commander Crimson back to life. Back in Chicago, he told his grandmother of his plans. Ellen just smiled, and let him upstairs to the attic and handed him Sam's old costume - cleaned, and appearing to be in pristine condition, with a note attached to the front. It read:

"Thought you might need this. I wish I was there to see you wear it. Love, Gramps"

Other distinguishing features

None.

Strength level

Jonas has the average strength of a man his height, weight and build that engages in intensive physical activity.

Known superhuman powers

Jonas can produce and control fire through the excitement of molecules. In addition to controling the flames that are a result of this, Jonas has recently learned that the amount of kinetic energy given off by excited molecules can be harnessed and transferred to himself and others, imparting boosts of speed and other various effects. Jonas has learned to control the excited molecules to such an extent, that he can litterally shape the fire into small forms that are capable of giving the appearance of movement - attacking villians, and following Crimson wherever he goes.

Other abilities

Jonas is a trained forensic investigator. He uses these skills as a freelance detective, and occasionally as a independent consultant to police and the District Attorney's office.

Limitations

Commander Crimson has a fear of harming others with his fire - to this end he has manifested very few attacks, prefering to use his powers to contain others in various ways. Crimson's "imps" are his first foray into using his power offensively, and he does so with extreme caution.

Paraphernalia

Commander Crimson is seen primarily wearing the red and gold leather outfit worn by his grandfather. The vest and padded shoulders and legs give a small amount of protection to blunt trama. A harness under the vest can be used to hold flat items, and 4 interior pockets on the vest hold small objects, such as his GAH ID card and communicator. A segmented belt under the vest contains a few small tools for collecting forensic evidence if needed.

Weapons/Arsenal

None.
