Aimee Rachel Krupinski (born February 14th, 1991) is, in most respects, an ordinary teenager... strikingly so. As The Conundrum Kid, official sidekick to DJ Enigma, however, she is rather extraordinary, more than she has yet discovered.

History

An only child, Aimee lived with both her parents in Paragon Heights, a well-to-do suburb of Paragon City in the 1950s and 60s, now gone a bit shabby. Her family life was never stable, her mother being the daughter of a wealthy Long Island family who felt she married beneath her, and her father being a self-made Midwestern lawyer. When it became clear that his professional ambitions didn't match her social ambitions, tensions escalated. Differences that were overlooked before, such as their religions (he was Presbyterian, she was Jewish) became large and insurmountable, and they separated when Aimee was 10. Aimee still blames herself for the separation, as many of the arguments were about her.

Her mother won the house, sole custody, and a generous alimony settlement, and had Aimee's last name changed from her father's (Lawler) to her mother's (Krupinski). Previously an outgoing child, Aimee withdrew more and more to her room, to play games of make believe with her dolls and toy horses. As she entered her teen years, she found a new way to indulge her imagination, by listening to the radio.

Aimee would make up imaginary relationships with different radio personalities, and would hold conversations with them, filling in their pauses with her own rejoinders. As a side effect of all this, she unknowingly became a bit of a radiophile, picking up a lot of the inside jargon and station slang here and there. Moving into High School, she never really fell into any cliques, not even the outcast cliques of geeks and social omegas, and became a bit of an invisible girl, never popular and never a target.

When she was 14, Aimee heard the voice of the someone who would change her life ... a strange, synthesized voice coming over the airwaves of one of her favorite stations, The Cape. The voice identified itself as 'DJ Enigma', and advertised its upcoming series of shows. It sounded like a robot, and yet, not quite... Aimee couldn't even tell if the voice was male or female, though if it was a 'boy robot' it sounded smallish, the voice being a bit on the high side. Visiting The Cape web site, she tried to find out anything she could about the new DJ, but he/she/it was, as the name suggested, remarkably Enigmatic.

Without any details provided, Aimee's active imagination began filling in details. DJ Enigma was from far enough away to not know Aimee wasn't 'cool.' DJ Enigma was a bit alone, just like Aimee. DJ Enigma loved music and radio, just like Aimee. DJ Enigma was kind, friendly, and needed a friend. Just like Aimee. In short, Aimee imagined DJ Enigma to be exactly the sort of person Aimee needed in her life, just then. Fortunately for Aimee, the reality wasn't too far off.

Arriving right on time for Enigma's very first show, Aimee, identifying herself only as an 'Enigma Groupie' was dancing right up front the entire time, where she could get a good look at the strange, metallic-blue DJ. Fascinated by the DJ, entertained by the music, and absorbed into the scene, Aimee was there the next week for the second session, and she has never missed a session since, always putting in an appearance at any DJE show.
