Background

Noah Porter was a young college student studying archaeology at London University. On an expedition to Mexico led by his Professor, Noah inadvertently wandered into one of the cordoned-off ruins. He was led inside by a strange, pulsing light. And since everyone had packed up and headed to the local inn they were staying in, he chose to investigate.

He felt his way down the rocky corridor until he reached the main room. A glowing orb of light hovered in the middle of the room. The air shifted and the light grew brighter and brighter as it expanded into a circular pattern Noah could only describe as a portal of some sorts. He stood there for who knows how long, simply transfixed by the sight of the funnel of golden light. Before he could reach it however, someone pulled him away. He fell backwards onto a pile of rubble and dust. His vision clouded by the haze, he could just barely make out a male figure standing over him. Then there was a flash of light and a loud crack of thunder and then both the portal and the man had vanished.

Six months later, Noah found himself back home in Paragon City, having since dropping out of the archaeology course in London. it simply wasn't as interesting as he thought it would be. Instead, he chose enroll in Paragon U to avoid being branded a typical college drop-out. Over the next few weeks however, he noticed some rather odd changes. He began experiencing visions. Visions of the future. Never more than a few minutes. But the visions always brought on intense headaches. Which worsened over time.

While studying in the library, another portal appeared from nowhere. Only this time, Noah was pulled into it. When he came to, he found himself in a dark, void-like space where the only light came from a glowing orb. There was a woman as well. She told him his life was in danger and that he was set on a path that would lead to not only his death, but the death of hundreds more. When he asked how he could avert such a disaster, she informed him he must go back in time, to the moment he gazed into that first portal and stop himself. Noah accepted.

Now in the past, Noah found himself in the cave. He pulled himself away from the portal and then, both he and it disappeared. He returned to the woman who informed him, he'd succeded. But not only that, the time he spent gazing into the portal had left him with the ability to manipulate time to an extent. The woman then returned him to the present.

Powers & Abilities

Time Manipulation
Noah possesses the ability to slow down and stop objects (or people) entirely, enabling him to freeze projectiles in mid-air, immobilize his enemies, and various other effects. The manipulated time field usually only exists in small pockets of space. Strain provides a limit on how long Noah can maintain a major time manipulation across a wider field however. Once, while freeing civilians held hostage by The Phantom Bat and his minions, he was able to completely freeze the surrounding villains for a few minutes while he liberated the hostages.

Precognition
A side effect of gazing into The Nexus, Noah is able to see future probabilities and interpret them to best select or manipulate what is likely to happen. The accuracy of Noah's ability to foresee the future decreases in direct proportion to the distance ahead in time, usually only a few minutes. He has limited control over his precognitive abilities.

Personality

Noah grew up as adventurous and curious boy, idolizing action movie protagonists and the heroes of Paragon City. But when they failed to save his aunt from an apartment fire, his faith in heroes waned. Jaded and a little cynical, sarcasm became his first language and he became somewhat apathetic as he grew up.

Since gaining his abilities however, Noah's grown a little more responsible and is easier to get along with. He may not always take the hero gig extremely seriously, finding a casual ease in dealing with a lot of villains, but when the situation calls for it he'll buckle down and do what needs to be done.

His powers has left him with a few odd personality quirks as well. Sometimes, he'll randomly answers questions before they're asked and respond to comments before they're spoken aloud. It's completely unintentional.
