Ancient History
Demons in one sort or another have always existed.Empuse were a type of elder shape shifter demons that were said to have existed as far back as ancient Sumerian lore. Empuse were said to lure travelers off the roads and siphon the unwary soul to fuel their dark powers. Later Greek transcripts record images of grey winged woman with cloven feet and horrific claws singing and seducing people to their doom. It is commonly accepted that these creatures were the predecessors of the demon myths for succubi, lamias, and possibly nagas
Lore
All enclosed here was taken from a thesis published by one archeologist Dr. Barker in 1933. The archeologist went missing in 1934 after having contacts within the Cheka discovered
"Within the Greek city state of Tiraspol discovered the final pieces of cyprus scrolls telling the tale of the fall of the former city state. Tiraspol was one of the great trading ports. It's king had many advisers but none more respected then Gathalus the tinkerer. Wishing to ensure the loyalty and continued servitude of this man the king offered his friend any wish he could grant. Gathalus replied he only wished a simple life with a simple woman to make him happy. Within a month the king arranged the marriage of his tinkerer with a young maid named Aldorina the sweetest and most innocent farmer girl who's beauty and singing voice was said to rival Aphrodite herself.
The Kingdom rejoiced and prospered for several years. So much so that one of the other advisers became jealous and was hired by a rival king to spy on his lord. He was a servant of the dark arts and soon found evidence he was looking for approaching the king and Gathalus as their friend and not the traitor he really was.The traitor informed Gathalus in front of the king that the lovely maid Aldorina was in fact an empuse disguised .He professed that he had tools of banishment that would free them of this evil. Unable to accept the woman he loved could be a vile creature Gathalus took the items and returned to his home. He set to create a curse upon this creature as his love turned to hate.
The next full moon he brought Aldorina to a hilltop and began the chant revealing a warding circle entrapping the creature. Her true form reveled the tinkerer continues the curse ensuring that she would never remember his name or her own so she would never remember the pain she had caused him. Tears streaming from the grey skinned abominations face but the voice of his wife continue to come out of her fanged mouth begging him to let her explain. He concludes the banishment he as he was instructed but the curse was much worse, not only would the demon be banished every hundred years but was cursed to never remember her name before banishment. Doomed to an eternity of fragmented memories was her curse.
The Tinkerer fades from history at this point. The city state seemed to have fallen not many years after...."
