Character
Bastian's a hardworking young man, whose entire life has featured a semi-religious study. This study comes through a family lineage, from his Japanese relatives, while his German family line very keenly feels a burden of gratitude to the United States for allowing them sanctuary after World War 2. This lesson was repeated throughout his upbringing, and its influence on his manner makes him highly short-term. His family history, and his own history, is one marked with one of the direst of sins. The art he studies connects him to the spirit realm, lets him hear the whispers of flame and the lights that surround humanity.
What most people see, then, is a young man with no seeming long-term plan, living for the moment, laughing loud and enjoying his physical exertion. As with almost all people like him, in this city, though, his short-term spurts of energy are the energy, the flares of light and heat from a long, slow burn.
Powers
Practicing a style of martial arts that closely resembles Northern Shaolin Kung-Fu, Bastian channels the spirits of fire in his environment, causing ignition. With the body of a normal - albeit healthy, fit young man - he has to be careful about physical contact, meaning his art is about keeping distance from others. Hot blasts of fire designed to scatter enemies into disarray, striking people to set them on fire, and channeling the fire spirits from others' possessions to fuel his own.

RP Notes
Bastian is a spiritualist who can speak to spirits of fire; spirits in light bulbs, spirits in fireplaces and candles. He's somewhat occult-minded, and can be a useful avenue for others to use as an introduction to the elemental-bending martial styles that I'm using. He's also a more stable fixture in the area, not a newcomer.
Themes
The central theme of Bastian's story is Deserved Arrogance. The art he learned owes its heritage to Dragons, and his own family heritage echoes the transition of global superpowers from Germany's massive war machine, on to America's own military industrial complex. At the same time, his powers require him to throw himself in the middle of combat, and don't encourage much care and caution - but he can handle it. The fire in his hands, the fire at his fingertips, blossom and blast all let him act as if he is a dragon, as if he can own the world. Even for just a few moments at a time.
Trivia
- Enraptured is a reskinned, renamed remake of an older fire/fire dominator character I used to have, and sent to Guardian when he was basically unusable due to RP collapse.
- Enraptured has such a large amount of global recharge that he has permadom even when hasten doesn't fire.
