Backstory

Origin

Eris Erebus was born in Nerva Archipelago to Erin and Jonas Erebus in August, 1986. Eris' home life was relatively peaceful and she was well cared for. Jonas was a well played employee at Aeon Tech. in Cap Au Diable, and Eris was enrolled in the best private school available. Eris graduated with honors, and was preparing to begin her life as a student at the Cap Au Diable university when the first Rikti invasion tore her life apart.

Both Jonas and Erin were killed by the invading aliens, while Eris was left cut off from them both. Eris was fortunate enough to be inadvertently protected at the university by several villains who had been crafting enhancements at the time, and kept the Rikti thoroughly distracted. Though she was able to escape with her life, the loss of her parents impacted her dramatically, and she decided to leave the university to join the Freedom Corp Longbow Agency. Joining Longbow was the only way she saw of serving the greater good and protecting others from suffering her own tragic fate, as she was not a powered individual. She became a Longbow Rifleman and began her service operating out of the Longbow base in Nerva Archipelago.

After two short years serving as a Longbow agent, tragedy struck Eris once again, when her squad was ambushed by a swarm of Snakes on Mercy Island.

The Change

Heavily outnumbered by the vicious monsters, her tiny squad was no match for the beasts. In a panic, the Longbow Eagle leading their squad took to the air and fled, barely looking back as his squad was butchered by the marauders. On the ground, Eris and her teammates fought as bravely as they could against the swarm of Snakes, but it was not enough to save them from the inevitable. Eris was bitten on the shoulder by one of the Cobras, and fell to the ground, too weakened by the neurotoxic venom to move. She watched helplessly as the rest of her squad was either torn to shreds or suffered a similar fate to her own.

After the battle was over, the surviving snakes gathered Eris and the other incapacitated survivors and dragged them into one of their many nests beneath the city. There, they were held captive for weeks and subjected to brutal, unspeakable treatment by their serpentine captors. After over a month of captivity, Eris' companions were all but gone, either killed by the harsh torture, or dragged off into the caves, never to be seen again. Eris was left alone in the caves, no longer with any hope of rescue or release, dirty, battered, and bloody. Her heart was filled with hatred for the monsters that had slaughtered her friends, and no doubt countless other victims. With nothing to lose, she continued to struggle and fight against the Snakes every time they came to the hollow where she was kept chained to the cave floor. The Snakes finally came to drag her off into the darkness of the caves, like her friends, and though she fought against their clawed hands with all her might, they beat her into submission. They took her to a large cavern filled with other snakes, eggs, and a massive ritual altar which dominated the center of the room. They laid Eris upon the ritual altar, and their shaman began chanting a heathen prayer in their hissing language. She struggled against her restraints, but was far too weak from over a month of malnourishment and savage beatings.
