Aka James Calder, a peaceful and optimistic mutant who uses his powers to end conflicts.

Background

James Calder was born in the Adocentyn Commune, a Crey-sponsored genetics experiment operating under the guise of an "alternative spiritualities communal farm" in upstate New York. There, the children born to its inhabitants were given one of two designations: Harvest, if they showed signs of exceptional abilities when tested; or Fallow, if they did not. Harvests disappeared quickly for "advanced education," while Fallows remained behind as breeding stock for the next generation.

James was born with only a minor visible mutation (unnaturally white skin, nearly a very pale violet). When the time came for his testing, and for reasons he does not yet understand, someone in the Commune falsified James' test results to conceal his abilities. Since they were both minor and subtle at the time, he spent his adolescence and early teen years as a Fallow. When he finally escaped from the Commune, he gradually made his way to Paragon City both to discover the answers to his past and to find a place for himself in the world.

Personality

Despite being in Paragon City for over a year now, James is still very much a country boy. He's almost perpetually cheerful, optimistic to the point of being naive, and willing to treat nearly anyone politely so long as they demonstrate that they can do the same with others. Talkative and easy-going, he's always ready to strike up conversations with others, no matter how odd they may seem.

He's particularly drawn to people who are isolated, out of their element, or emotionally damaged. When he meets someone who seems to lack the peace he feels, he wants to help them. Sometimes, this has put him in bad situations: he can't understand people who are genuinely evil, or who take pride in their wounds; it shakes his view of the world to spend too much time talking to them.

Powers

When describing his talents to others, he is modest: "Sometimes I can get people to stop fighting for a while." He can fill others with a sense of serenity and compassion, making them hesitate from violence or even cease fighting entirely. This same sense of calm can strengthen his allies, giving them the resolve to keep up the battle or to stand again when they have all but given up. Some of these powers, he has used outside the context of fighting crime, giving people a moment of tranquility or renewing their hope.

Abilities

On his way to Paragon City, James took a series of odd jobs, mostly as a farmhand. He tries not to mention this fact in Paragon, since he doesn't want to look any less sophisticated than he already does.

Weaknesses and Limitations

The same innocence that makes some people feel protective towards James also leads him to be dangerously trusting of others. In a place like Paragon City, where organizations so often have their own secret agendas, this could well lead him to trouble.

Equipment

Although he's tried several costumes in his career, James has taken to wearing a simple and comfortable outfit recently. One of his earlier costumes included devices that allowed an outside agency to monitor abilities; since then, he's been more careful about what he wears and where it's from.
