The Sisters Gloom

The Gloom sisters are a pair of mutant siblings who are just plain wrong somehow. Unlike most, they seek out the harsher side of existence seeming to relish in darkness, suffering and pain. Neither girl is aware of the origins of their powers but they live and die for each other. And they have…many times. Neither sister is easily approachable. Few normal things interest them and they have built up a long history of being the outcasts, far beyond the edge of normality. The sisters were once inseparable but no longer. Jenny has taken to avoiding her sister.

Backstory

From the age of eight there was clearly something just plain wrong about the Jacobs sisters. They stopped playing well with other children, dressed in black and hung out only together focusing on creating fiction scenes of death and pain. By high school they went too goth for the goth crowd. Cutting and drug induced lows were not enough for the sisters and they sought out the darker side of life in strange underground clubs and cults eventually becoming little more than toys, slaves or worse. At some point in their descent they were split up. The rumor was a major coven of wizards and vampires was nearly wiped out by the girls somehow. Jenny was sold to the circle of thorns, Bethany to a rather more mysterious and eccentric wizard. Eventually both girls were found. Jenny was ‘rescued’ during a raid on a circle conclave, and a year later Bethany when the manor house she ‘lived’ in burned down. By the time Bethany had been found Jenny had already been sent to a private school for troubled children where she apparently murdered a fellow student and ended up in prison. During a prison break she disappeared to the Rogue Isles. Bethany had suffered third degree burns to much of her body but recovered at a disturbing pace. Within a few months she was nearly good as new, sharing only the now deathly pale skin of her sister. After she recovered she too left for the Isles. Some say to reunite with her sister.

Personalities

The Gloom sisters are something of a yin-yang. The older Jenny is the stronger willed of the pair. To most Jen is cold and uncaring, she can be harsh and quick to judge whereas Bethany tends to be soft spoken and more willing to befriend others. It is perhaps that Bethany worships her sister, following Jenny's lead wherever it takes her, that makes her sometimes cruel and distant. In another life Bethany might have been a hero save for her total disgust with society and its need for conformity. One thing that is clear is both sisters have seen horrors unimaginable, glimpsed into places of madness unseen by the eyes of those who would tap those places for power and it is thought both girls have passed into the places in between, the places no others have gone and returned, only to be spat back out, rejected.

Powers

Since neither sister has ever had any tests done, neither knows exactly what they are. Jenny is obviously linked to shadow and darkness. She isn’t strong but hitting another can disrupt their life force. Bethany likewise is not strong but the living earth itself seems to protect her. One rumor suggests it is not the earth at all but the living spirit of the universe that shields her with whatever material is available. To her even tons of dirt and metal attached to her body seems weightless and she can use that material to defeat those who would see to stop her. One surprising power, for whatever reason, neither girl seems to remain dead no matter what is done to them. Oh they can die, and have died in many horrible ways. But each time they appear again as whole as ever- usually where whatever remains of their corpses but not always. This has led some to believe they are not human at all but perhaps spiritual entities of some kind. While Jenny has become convinced she is an aspect of death, wielding powers of decay and suffering, Bethany thinks little of her own powers of earth and life. Jenny has convinced herself she is unable to love and that she is as barren as a fallow field sown with salt. Bethany knows she is excessively fertile having lost several children already due to repeated deaths at the hands of former owners most of whom are now dead. When they are together tragedy tends to follow. As a result Jenny is now avoiding her sister and has taken to spending a lot of time in the D where she believes the forces of death within her will be nullified.

Fun Facts

The characters came from a combination of watching the Ginger Snaps trilogy one too many times and my own frustration with far too many vamps in the D!

Both sisters can actually die but good luck figuring out the way!

The sisters represent life and death not good and evil…when together their powers clash and create a zone of chaos!
