Origins
Sandy was an up-and-coming fashion model. She had the looks, the attitude, and the drive to become a world class celebrity. However, she had yet to make her big break. Her parents would not financially support her chosen career, as they thought it was a waste of her other talents and abilities, so it was up to her to manage herself and take on whatever modeling jobs she could find.
However, after the Rikti invasion, there wasn't a very high demand for people to stand around to look pretty; there was rebuilding to be done. Still, the world had begun to return to normal, and Sandy was again able to pursue her career, and moved to Paragon City, which, while a world class city, didn't seem to offer the competitive atmosphere of New York or L.A. or Paris.
However, Paragon had grown more dangerous than Sandy realized. Answering a call for athletes and models placed in the newspaper, Sandy fell right into a Vhazilok trap. Fortunately, a group of heroes were right on top of things, and shut down the operation before anyone died. However, the Vhazilok had just finished doing prep work on Sandy's arms and legs... if she were to live, she would need quadruple amputation. She was in no position to object, so the Doctors went to work right away.
Unfortunately, coming to, Sandy DID object. Violently. She would have rather died than becoming a half a person. She felt that not only would she no longer get to be a model, but she wasn't even sure how the hell she was supposed to operate on a day to day basis.
Feeling bad that they hadn't rescued the woman sooner, the heroes chipped in to have her fitted with cybernetic arms and feet.. That at least solved the problem of functionality, but Sandy was confident that her life as a model was over. But more bad news awaited: due possibly to a mechanical bug, her new "hands" interacted very... violently with electronics, sucking up their power and discharging electricity.
Sandy eventually learned how to control and manipulate the energy siphoning and discharges, but only did so to try and reclaim a normal life. However, one night, she saw a woman being attacked by some Vazhilok... and something inside of her snapped. Exploding into action, Sandy saved the woman and vowed to hunt the Vazhilok wherever they hid.
The Great Experiment begins!
Sandy registered with City Hall to be a hero, but a quick check-in with The Bureau of Super Human Affairs revealed an... issue. Her cybernetic implants limited her physical abilities, and could not be modified for additional utility. In short, she would not be able to work out, fly, or do anything more than what her gauntlets would allow. Seeing as most heroes have some means of a "travel Power" and usually have an array of additional abilities which seemed almost mandatory. They almost denied her a hero license because of it.
But they didn't. Warning the young woman that she wouldn't be as effective as other heroes, a DATA scientist made an off-hand comment about this hero being "quite an experiment". Sandy took that as inspiration for her Code Name, and with that, began her career as a costumed hero.
Current
Sandy has been working hard, tweaking the offensive potential of her gauntlets. Though instead of enhancing them purely for damage, she's tweaked them to sap and disorient her foes. As she's continued her exploits and gained more fame as a hero, something funny happened: She started getting modeling and acting offers from some of the top casting and modeling industries in the world! Of course, what she didn't know was that this was pretty much standard operating procedure for these agencies; try to recruit famous young heroes to sell stuff. She found the irony pretty sweet, but still, she was no longer obsessed with just being a pretty face or a nice body. She was doing good and making a real difference in the world... Though she eventually decided it would be fun to take the occasional side-job when not saving the world.
OOC Notes
I wanted to make a character with no (or as few) pool powers as possible. Definitely no travel power, and no fitness pool. Kinetics is a perfect Primary for such a goal, as if offers ways to recharge HP, End, and allows for travel options. Still, The way power selection works, i had to select SOME pool powers (incidentally, i also skipped Repel), so I went with the medicine pool. The extra out-of-combat and self-heals, along with the rez power, round out the character nicely.
I used "MK2" at the end of her name, because this is not the first iteration of this character! That was a Kin/Rad, but when I figured out the end sapping synergy between Kin and Elec, I deleted the toon and went with the second route. It's worked out quite well so far.
Each of her powers has at least one stun proc, and some have a hold proc where I can fit them. This has made her a lean, mean mezzing machine... or at least, as close as I can get to it on a non-controller. She's a bit weak and squishy, but otherwise is a blast to play.
