Introspection

Ancient History

Born in China, Gu Qin Tang and her family moved to America when she was only barely two years old; however, by the time she was five she moved back to China to live and study at an obscure boarding school in the remote, isolated backwoods of China. A decade and a half later, when she was twenty years old, Gu Qin Tang finally left China and re-emerged into the world, reconnecting with her now estranged family and beginning her career as a murderer and thief for hire. For the next decade she traveled the world, cultivating her professional reputation and always eager to experience what the different locales she traveled to had to offer. Eventually she changed her nomadic lifestyle and moved to Paragon City, Rhode Island, where she reconnected once again with her family and also with the husband she had married a decade ago.

A Thief and a Murderer

While Paragon City proved to be interesting at first, the novelty of operating under such a large meta-human community quickly lost its charm and Gu Qin Tang soon began to look elsewhere for employment. For a few months she found work as a hired vigilante in the Port Oaks and Cap au Diable areas of the Etoile Islands, acting as protection for the few honest companies in that area, before she found her way into the Phoenix Insurrection.

The Insurrection paid its members with room, food, booze, and work instead of money, however, and so it was not long before she began to moonlight as a freelancer once more. Unfortunately, keeping company with a freedom fighter and terrorist organization looking to overthrow the local tyranny puts a cramp on one's freelancing opportunities, so Gu Qin Tang made the best of her situation and used it to further cultivate her professional reputation. After a few months, Unleashed Force promoted her to a junior officer in the Insurrection and she was in charge of leading general operations against Arachnos in the field - occasionally also acting as an information gatherer.

During her stay with the Insurrection, Gu Qin Tang found her way to becoming one of Captain Mako's favorite fixers through her moonlighting under an assumed identity. She used her fairly high position within Mako's organization to her own and the Insurrection's advantage several times before leaving the resistance, going on to assist several coworkers who had also recently left the Insurrection in creating the Halflight Acquisitions company. Joining her friends to help them in getting on their feet and setting up the new company as a profitable business, it was also during this time that Gu Qin Tang was able to work her way into infiltrating Ghost Widow's organization as a high ranking, independent Night Widow. Assisting Ava Mannheim's Archon Industries in creating a new method of enabling psychic powers in those that normally would not have such, she acquired this technology for herself as payment and used it to mask her psychic presence as a Night Widow, enabling her to act as a double agent. Her employment with Halflight Acquisitions lasted only a few months, however, before she returned to exclusively freelancing instead of being bound to any organization.

Wherever the Wind Blows

Shortly before her departure from Halflight Acquisitions, Gu Qin Tang was already finding a wealth of freelance work repelling the Praetorian offensive and she acquired several distinctions from them, setting her up for having a very steady freelance employment once she did leave the company of her friends. However, this wellspring dried up just as quickly as Primal Earth regrouped and begin launching their own attacks into the Praetorian dimension, almost entirely excluding Tang from the freelance job market as everyone with employment opportunities shifted to ventures inside this alternate dimension.

With meaningful employment in the Etoile Islands gone and only scraps of decent freelance work in Paragon City, Tang found herself in something of a rut and began to wander the social scenes to get herself out of it - and it was in this period that she first met Reiraku and Simi'Kraz. Within a month, Reiraku and Gu Qin Tang clicked so well that they became sisters to each other and Simi'Kraz was becoming a good friend, as well. However, on one of the few freelance jobs that Tang was able to find during this period she took a Praetorian plasma shot which caused her vision to continually degrade. At first glasses were enough to get by, but it became evident that they were only a temporary solution and so an alternative method of sight became Gu Qin Tang's goal. After discussing her vision problem and getting support from Reiraku, Tang found her method of alternative sight just before she became clinically blind with her normal, human sight. This became a turning point for her as Tang soon found she had powers of her own instead of powers that were only 'on loan' and by summer she was well on her way into leaving her status as a human behind.

Now, with these extreme changes to her life and the lack of work for her on the American eastern seaboard, Gu Qin Tang has begun commuting to New Detroit where she has found the freelance job market to be thriving with opportunities and challenges. She continues to live in Paragon City with her husband and frequently socializes with friends and family at the D and at home.

Reiraku

At first mistaking Reiraku for her actual twin sister, Nikki Hex, it did not take long for Reiraku and Gu Qin Tang to form a younger and older sister relationship between them. While Tang tends to fuss and be a worrywart over her new, younger sister, she does know that Reiraku has the skill and potential to see herself through one way or another.

Simi'Kraz

When Tang first met Simi'Kraz she simply passed the teenage-looking demon off as just another all-to-serious being trying to make a name for itself in the D. Simi quickly proved Tang wrong, however, and they have since become good friends - each being one of the few people who understand the other's situation. Besides a great deal of professional respect for each other, the two enjoy socializing with each other with Tang's home being something of a speak-easy for Simi'Kraz while the two are having a budding rivalry over video games such as Dead or Alive 4.

Ariel Project

Gu Qin Tang first met Ariel as her superior in the Phoenix Insurrection, where Ariel served as the senior security officer and the two became friendly coworkers - although their friendship has had more than one rocky moments. It has been quite a few months since they have interacted on a professional level, Ariel having more or less retired from active field work at Halflight Acquisitions and Tang moving on from the company to pursue her freelancing, but recently the two have begun to see each other regular a few times a week, when Ariel joined the cooking lessons she is giving Reiraku.

Mister Wisp

While Wisp and Tang know practically nothing of each other's history or personal information after the months they spent working together at the Insurrection and then Halflight Acquisitions, they have gained a great deal of professional respect for one another from when Tang worked directly for Wisp in infiltrating Arachnos and executing stealth operations for him.

Earthdark

Erica and Tang have had a fairly casual friendship, never having much occasion to work with each other professionally beyond fighting beside each other. There were a few times where they did not see eye to eye and had terse words with each other, but they are still more friends than coworkers and Erica had Tang be a bridesmaid at her wedding with Atrum.

Atrum Ensis

As the head of the technology department at the Insurrection and making the combination of magic and technology his trade, Tang found Atrum a good source of more exotic options when she needed a tool for a job. After they left to create Halflight Acquisitions, Atrum became the CEO while Tang was the second-in-command of the company while she was there. She has a good measure of professional and personal respect for Atrum, but like Erica they have had times where they did not see eye to eye.
