This article about a character is a stub -- a small, but growing, work in progress. If you're the creator of this character, why not consider expanding it?

While toying with my dark side on Champion Server, I stumbled across a man named Chisholm, a misplaced Hero from Virtue, attempting to save me from the Snakes. Despite my private disgust with my tormentors, I managed to pull through, earning the admiration of a new fan. Before long, Healing Heroine was loose on the streets of Virtue. Through Chisholm, HH became allied with Shadowhart, Orion Brightstar, and her future sister, Shadow's Fable. This is my story of one woman with a bright past and a tormented future.

Biography

Family Life

Madeline Margeson was born to Broadway actress Allison Wilson and Wall Street banker Benjamin Margeson on October 31, 1984. When her mother was murdered by a crazed fan in 1985, her father moved her to Sarasota, Florida. Benjamin Margeson immersed himself into his career, while Madeline was primarily cared for by her maternal grandmother. Overtime, Madeline began to adopt her father's obsessive work-ethic. She graduated from Sarasota High School in 1999 at the age of 14.

Training and Career

Madeline graduated from the University of South Florida in 2003 at 18 with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She joined the Navy Reserves upon graduation and served 3 years, becoming a Nurse Practitioner and Field Surgeon along the way. At the end of her tour of duty in 2006, Madeline moved to Paragon City, taking the position of chief of nursing at Cygnus Medical Center- Peregrine Island.

Madeline also is an accomplished magician, clown, and tiger tamer. She sang with the Asolo Theater and the Van Wezel Theater, performing in over fifty shows before she was 22.

Beauty and the Beast

In late 2006, Madeline became engaged to her college sweetheart, Harry James. They moved to Paragon City, in large part to Harry's new job at Portal Corp. He worked in the Trans-Dimensional Trek and Retrieval Unit, building hardware and software to better perfect inter-dimensional travel. During a routine maintenance procedure, a rogue Rikti broke through the opened portal and shot Harry with a strange orange and purple ray. Initially, there was no apparent damage, but after a month, Madeline began to notice changes in Harry. His mood, his voice, even the length and girth of his body changed. The only thing unchanged were is deep, grass green eyes. Similar attacks had been happening all over town and police were arresting and hospitalizing the victims. Unwilling to give up on him, Madeline began treating Harry privately. As his condition worsened, Harry quit going to work and would often fly into spontaneous fits of rage. He would disappear for hours, only to return like he had never left.

On August 27th, 2008, Madeline returned home from work to a silent house. Assuming Harry had disappeared again, Madeline put dinner in the oven and hopped in the shower. About 20 minutes later, as she exited the shower, she was startled by noises in the bedroom. Calling out to Harry, she opened the door and found a distorted monster with bright, green eyes, staring down at her. Once 5ft. 9in. tall, Harry had grown to an enormous 7ft. 8in. With one sweep of his massive hand, Madeline was flung across the room and hit the wall with a crack. Her limp body crumbled to the floor. 2 hours later:

A woman called 911 stating that her neighbor's house was on fire.
In the backyard, they discovered the body of a woman, her skin
burned beyond recognition. Neighbors were of little help, and the
burn victim's fiancee has not been found. A manhunt is underway...

Jane Doe #18735 became headline news.

Nurses were startled when, after three days, the victim's skin began to turn green. Her hair, which had burned away, never returned. Instead, dark green leaves sprouted in its place. Her body shrank, giving her the appearance of a child. Any hope of her family identifying her quickly disappeared. Despite these changes, Jane Doe #18735 seemed in optimum health. Her burns healed almost overnight and her broken bones appeared to never exist. Her body, while no longer human, was perfectly healthy for a plant. Doctors called in Botanists to try to diagnose the woman. Nothing helped. The woman was in a deep coma. She was placed in a room with 4 beds in the Intensive Care Unit.

Becoming Healing Heroine

Healing Heroine after her recovery.

After 2 months, Nurses were startled when 3 bed alarms started sounding simultaneously. As they rushed to the room, an eerie green aura enveloped the doorway. Once inside, they found 3 patients, happy, healthy, hungry, and awake. The green aura was radiating from Jane Doe. For the next 4 months, Nurses wheeled in some of their most dire patients. Within 24-48 hours, the Nurses were discharging fully healthy, formerly terminal patients. To all she helped, Jane Doe #18735 became known as Healing Heroine. Press and media swarmed the hospital, hoping for any information. Flowers had to eventually be turned away because, once inside her room, they never died.

Finally on January 27th, 2008, Healing Heroine awoke. Her long slumber was finally over, but her real recovery was about to begin. The hospital trustees, while willing to care for the unconscious, non-eatting, miracle healer, they knew that her fame would soon be forgotten and the donations to the hospital for her care would soon stop. With no evidence of disease or injury, she was released from the hospital and told to go home.

Upon returning to her house, Madeline found the property leveled. All her personal belongings were torched. Now homeless, she slept in trees and bushes in the parks around Paragon City. She began hunting the streets at night, finding injured police, citizens, or heroes in need. She healed their wounds and left nothing but the scent of roses. In some cases, she teleported them directly to hospitals to get them the most urgent care possible.

A New Beginning

On February 10th, 2008, Healing Heroine was traveling between King's Row and Steel Canyon when she met Solarstroke. The armored hero recognized her from the press and stopped to interview the new heroine. After discovering (by accident) her homeless situation, he took her to the home of his father. Shadowhart (Solarstroke's father), Shadow's Fable (Affectionately known as Fable), and Orion Brightstar (Fable's partner) welcomed Healing Heroine into their home at Midnight Cove. When Shadowhart (Hart to his friends) suddenly disappeared, he left his friends concerned not only for his safety, but also for the future of their home. When he didn't return for 8 weeks, Maddie, Fable and Orion moved into the home of their friends Omniassasian (Omni) and James Wraithe, or Omni-Wraithe Industries (OWI). For three months, they lived together peacefully. Then Orion was disabled by a strange disease brought on by his Kheldian half. James and Omni traveled to the Kheldian world to find a cure and never didn't return. The leadership of OWI fell to Fable.

While living at OWI, Maddie met a new friend, Blue Echidna. His youth and exuberance closely matched her own, but his young age made him immature and awkward. Maddie and Blue would often go into battle together and Blue would notice Maddie's sadness and desire to move through her past. So he introduced her to his boss, the leader of The League of Free Radicals, Hin Fist. Hin and Maddie, both being of short stature, hit it off right away and began dating.

At the same time, Maddie began experimenting with her powers. Since the awakening from her coma, she had lost the ability to digest meats or complex carbohydrates. Her diet was reduced to simply prepared vegetables and liquids. While out fighting one day, she came upon a patch of dying venus flytraps. Using her skills, she restored them to their natural good health. Suddenly, one sprung up out of the ground. Maddie shrieked and took off running. The flytrap began walking on it's roots, growing to a unnatural height and girth, chasing after her. Once Maddie was convinced that the plant meant her no harm and wasn't spawned by Rikti tech, she grew fond of the slobbering brute. The flytrap became known as Dave. Admiring Dave's carnivorous tendencies, Maddie took a sample of his DNA and began to fuse it with her own. The resulting serum was a awkward lavender and green swirling concoction, never fully homogenized. She injected this serum into herself and began to transform. She could now eat meat and other more substantial meals. But the serum had an unintended side-effect. Maddie experienced more violent tendencies. She would laugh maniacally, jump erratically, and even spontaneously burst into flame. She worked hard to hide these changes from her friends and family, but could not hide it from Hin. He urged her to abandon her experiment. She flew into a rage and ran out. When the episode ended, Maddie agreed that the treatments had made her out of control and acquiested. After adjusting the formula, she tried again, but this time Maddie took on a great deal of strength and could feel a connection to the earth, a deeper frequency but the same intensity that she could feel the plants around her. She no longer flew into violent rages, but was more grounded, less vivacious than before. The fire still raged in her core, but it wasn't until she joined the Menders that she finally began to control her new strengths.

Personality

Maddie, to her friends, is often characterized as energetic. Her bright smile and vivacious attitude overflow. She is frequently running around as a whirling dervish might. When upset or angry, she is frequently silent, to the point of obvious discourtesy. She takes extreme offense to rude behavior and words, and will happily feed you to her pet for disrespecting other heroes, especially other healers (Empathy Users). She volunteers her free time to the hospitals of Paragon City, and is frequently rushing off to tend to the cities most difficult cases. She speaks directly, with precision, doing her best to be clear and polite. Still, misunderstandings happen and she tries to not take anything personally.

As the season's change, Healing Heroine begins to look more human. She has regrown her hair, no longer dark brown, rather bright, rose red. As her appearance changes and evolves, so do her powers. Upon her re-awakening, she was unable to eat any animal muscle. Her meals were simply prepared vegetables, more raw than cooked. When Healing Heroine acquired her pet, Dave the Fly Trap, she performed a series of genetic experiments and grafted part of Dave's DNA to her own. This has granted her the ability to eat more normally, but the treatment has caused a unique side effect. Spontaneously, she would burst into flame and be unable to call some of her healing powers. When this occurred, she would be forced to expel her anger violently, usually on Malta or Rikti foes. Her usual friendly personality waned and she would become cautious and guarded, like a pool of lava. After a time, her healing abilities would restore and she would lose her firey demeanor.

After joining the Menders, Maddie had time to harness the wildness of her lava powers and they mellowed into stone strength. She can smash foes with fists of rock, or bash them with huge boulders ripped from the earth.

Attire and Fashion

Healing Heroine loves red shoes. She is known for wearing out the soles of 3 inch, red stiletto pumps. She also has a pair of red, steel toed, stiletto boots. She is very much a girly-girl in her red mini-dress, but will fight to the death to keep her blue jeans.

Master Magician

Healing Heroine is a former student of the Sarasota Sailor Circus. She is an accomplished trapeze artist, magician, tiger tamer, and clown.

Hin Fist

Hin Fist is Healing Heroine's partner. They met through their mutual friend, Blue Echidna, and have been very close ever since. They are very similar in thought and have been known to finish each other's sentences. Hin is from the planet Toril, of a nomadic tribe called "The Hin". He was delivered to this planet through a rip in the time-stream and has been unsuccessful in returning. Healing Heroine is helping him meditate using the Powers of the Mother, Earth, and her children, the Plants, in hopes to give him the ability to return to his home world. She considers Hin her husband, although they are not married.

Mistress Professor

Mistress Professor was Madeline's best friend in high school. Her real name is Bernadette Washington. She has a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Programing. They served in the Navy Reserves together and consider each other sisters. When Mistress Professor ( Bee to her friends ) moved to Paragon City on a military contract, Healing Heroine introduced her to Shadowhart. Bee became a tenant at Midnight Cove and very quickly grew fond of Shadowhart. She is now married to Shadowhart and moved permanently to Paragon City once her contract expired.

Shadow's Fable

Shadow's Fable is the former partner of Shadowhart. Upon her first introduction to Healing Heroine, she pronounced them sisters. She has since been Madeline's closest friend and ally since she has lived in Paragon City. When Shadow's Fable left Midnight Cove, Healing Heroine moved with her, not wanting to leave her family. Shadow's Fable is half-dark elf, half- wood elf. Her given name is Shadow, although Maddie calls her Faye. She has a blood-lust for Vampires and will go into a killing rage in their presence. Shadow's Fable is currently engaged to Orion Brightstar and lives with him and their friends at Omni-Wraite Industries.

Shadowhart

Shadowhart is the father of Solarstroke. Often known strictly as "Hart" or "Cal", he is her mentor and friend. They tease like brother and sister. When Hart went missing for a month, Healing Heroine moved out of Midnight Cove to live with Shadow's Fable and Orion Brightstar at Omni-Wraite Industries. She is very protective of Hart, but also unafraid to speak her mind to him. His real name is unknown. He originally hales from Scotland and has a deep-seated vengeance against the Council for the execution of his wife. He has remarried and now lives with Mistress Professor, Healing Heroine's childhood friend, and works with her to fulfill his promise to destroy the council.

Orion Brightstar

Orion Brightstar is a Kheldian Peacebringer. He is the partner of Shadow's Fable. He is quiet and unwilling to speak of the horrors on his home world. Since April of 2009, his human and Kheldian forms have been in hibernation. It is unknown at this time if him or his Kheldian will reawaken in this lifetime.

Warsabre

Galan Saint is the best friend of Solarstroke. They have been best friends since childhood. Galan is a bright, mocking personality, more prone to cut a joke than take offense. The former leader of the White Hawk Protection Agency, he has since joined forces with Midnight Cove and it's residents.

Solarstroke

Despite their life-altering meeting, Maddie has had very little contact with Solarstroke since he introduced her to his father and friends. Solarstroke's life and work keep him away from Paragon City for many weeks and months at a time, making it hard for him to maintain relationships. Regardless, Maddie will be eternally grateful for his kindness.
