The Swarm - A History of Hy and the Swarm of Y'shran

A Brief Explanation of the Utha

Long, long ago, deep in the Andromeda Galaxy, on a small, lush planet called Suzaria, orbiting the twin stars of Grak'nos and Grak'than, there was an environment quite similar to that of the planet Earth 10,000 years ago. The species of the world were in a careful balance, and the planet's equivalent to the Homo Sapiens, called the Utha, were still in their early days. In fact, this equivalence wasn't just that of position in the eco-system, but also the physical equivalent. Apart from a few difference in the evolutionary tree, in the form of reduced hair (the planet had a slightly higher average temperature than Earth's), serpentine eyes, pointed teeth (the species was evolved from a carnivorous race, rather than an omnivorous race) and a thinner body (for agility - the Utha were far from the top of the food chain), the exterior body of the Utha was exactly the same as that of the Homo Sapiens. However, that was where the similarities ended.

The Utha were hunters, rather than hunter-gatherers. They were quadrupedal, too, moving in a way that was a combination of the movement of an ape and the movement of a wolf. Neither of these things was the major point of difference between the Utha and the Homo Sapiens, however. For, rather than being a pack race, the Utha were a swarm race. They were all birthed from a single queen (who, for the matter, looked anything but human) and were separated into soldiers, carers and harvesters.

This swarm system proved to be much more advantageous to the species than the pack system was to the human race - in just 2 millenniums after the first Utha colony, the species was as technologically advanced as the ancient Egyptians. This was when trouble started for the Utha. For, like every swarm race, the Utha had become not one super-colony, but a selection of colonies scattered across Suzaria. Each colony, or swarm, Like the nations of Earth, the queens of each colony wanted more land for their people, and so began to wage war over territory.

Y'shran

While most of the swarms clashed, one swarm, the swarm of the queen Y'shran, managed to keep a fragile alliance with the swarms around it. This wasn't a peaceful move, though. While it didn't actively attack any of the surrounding swarms, it slowly built up in size until it was so astronomically huge that the swarms around it killed their queens in rebellion and joined the forces of Y'shran. This created a swarm far beyond the strength of any of the others... except one. The swarm of K'than was its name, and it was the smallest of the swarms. What it lacked in size, though, it made up for with the fighting skills of its soldiers- one of their infantry could eliminate a whole thousand of the soldiers belonging to the Y'shran swarm. As was to be expected, these two swarms ended up the last remaining, and they continue to survive to this day. As time passed, both swarms grew and overpopulated the planet, causing them to design interplanetary travel. As even this became less than satisfactory for their conquering needs, they created some of the earliest intergalactic space travel in the Primal universe (aside from naturally intergalactic races).

Hy's Tale

Hy was born from Y'shran as a soldier, defined as such by his white hair. He was armed with a powersuit, the swarm's signature military weapon, and sent out into the universe to scout galaxies and find one suitable for Y'shran's swarm to invade and take as their own. Naturally, due to how close the two galaxies were, Hy's first destination was the Milky Way. Once he was in the Milky Way, however, he began to have thoughts.

Why did he follow his mistress? Apart from his natural need to follow a master, he had no reason to. She was an unkind queen, showing little praise at achievements and much anger at failures.

He decided that he had a new goal- find a master or mistress that would be appropriate for him.

In the time that would pass, he continued on to ten different masters and mistresses in the Milky Way galaxy before, finally, his ship had a malfunction and began to career straight off course, directly towards (gasp shock awe) Earth.

Upon arriving on Earth, he found a perfect opportunity. It was a planet FULL of intelligent life. Using his suit's translator, he began to learn the most prominent language of the most clearly intelligent species on the planet: ants. Upon finding that they were not as advanced a swarm race as his was, he was severely disappointed, and decided he'd have to settle for another species. He settled on humans, and was fascinated upon learning the English language and hearing of a city where the most powerful beings gathered: the Etoile Isles, he was told.

Hy travelled to Etoile and began working to find a good master. At first, he set his eyes on Lord Recluse, as he was clearly the most powerful and commanding being in the small collection of islands. After a short time, though, he discovered that not all was as it seemed, and began chasing after Nemesis, who he had discovered to be behind a number of plots, and to be extremely intelligent. However, he couldn't find Nemesis among all the fakes and gave up.

About a month of searching later, he finally happened upon a master who he thought was perfect. While he didn't have any forces at the time, Hy was certain he would become a larger power in the near future of the country of Etoile. Hy's master was a reanimated drow by the name of Klaus.

It wasn't at first that Hy realized that he would be the perfect master. He only even discovered Klaus's master potential upon hearing his claim of being a prince. After that, he extended an offer to Klaus to be his master. After a few weeks, Hy's thoughts on Klaus were cemented, and he decided to remain his servant.

A few months after that, and Hy was convinced well enough that he promised to stay as Klaus' servant through thick or thin.

Personality

Hy has a number of layers to his personality. The first layer, most clear when he isn't around Klaus, is the layer of incredible curiosity regarding the cultures of the human race and the other intelligent creatures that inhabit the planet.

Under this layer, when Klaus makes an appearance, is a clay-like layer, able to become whatever Hy (or Klaus) wishes it. He can be incredibly submissive and weak and whimpering, and is normally this way. However, recently he's started to take on a much stronger, more dominant personality, while still keeping the air of being a servant.

Beyond this still are a number of internal emotions brought about due to Hy's past. Even Klaus doesn't get to experience these emotions and behaviors often, and when he does, it ends up being extremely surprising. Depending on the trigger, Hy can even defy his master, which, in any other circumstance, would be unheard of.

Masters and Mistresses

Y'shran

Y'shran was Hy's creator and Queen. It was only due to Hy's epiphany that she wasn't good enough a mistress for him that she doesn't continue to be his mistress to this day... and that the Swarm of Y'shran hasn't entered the Milky Way. After all, they still believe he's scouting.

The First 10

Due to one reason or another, Hy went through 10 different masters and mistresses after Y'shran, but found each and every one of them unsuitable in some way.

Klaus

The first, and possibly last master that Hy has been content with, Klaus means everything to Hy. He would sacrifice himself without a second thought to save Klaus... he'd even do it for no reason, just because his prince said to.

Friends

Hy's friends are few and far between, due to his everlasting devotion to Klaus.
