E-Branch: Senior Staff. Though he's an 'outside consultant' to the Branch, IB has fallen into a sort of leader role in the Senior Staff of the Branch. His expertise in dimensional travel has made him invaluable, although he isn't 'officially' on the Branch payroll.

Personality

IB tends to be stoic and cold. This is a product of both his role as a Guardian and his personal choices throughout his career. On rare occasions he's known to open up a little bit and crack the occasional joke. For those he lets inside he's incredibly protective and caring. But those are very few. He is a consumate workaholic and has thrown himself into his duties, choosing his job over his own personal needs more often than not.

Abilities

The In-Betweener is a Dimensional Guardian. In charge of keeping Time and Space in order he has an assortment of powers. He has the ability to travel between dimensions and along possible timelines. He has an awareness of when someone or something breaches the dimensional borders. He has an eidetic memory and has an incredible knack with computer language and software.

Weaknesses and Limitations

None that have been noticed. When he overworks himself he tends to get debilitating headaches. There is only so much strain that the human mind can take, and traveling between dimensions certainly isn't easy.

Equipment

He has a wide assortment of gadgets and technology from other dimensions and things that he's picked up from his more domestic hero duties as well. These include a Nemesis Staff, Holy Shotgun Shells, Sands of Mu, Hyper-Phase device, and many others.

Character History

Sebastian Kyle was born in Chicago, Illinois. His father was transferred to Paragon City in Sebastian's junior year of high school. He was always a brainy kid, far and away from his peers in school. He suffered from unexplained headaches that would leave him all but useless for days at a time. He was small, geeky, weak, and an easy target for the bullies at his new high school. His older brother Marcus didn't help things much, as much as he tried to keep them away from him.

During his Senior year, Sebastian's powers erupted from him during a brutal beating from a group of jocks. Leaving them bleeding on the sidewalk he opened his eyes to find himself in a strange dimension. There was no light, but his eyes seemed able to perceive his surroundings. He met a strange dimensional being there calling itself the Outsider, a name he took so that Sebastian's human mind could more easily comprehend it. The Outsider was the Guardian of Light and Darkness, and informed Sebastian that he had also been chosen from birth to be the Guardian of Time and Space. Bewildered by this new information, the Outsider taught him how to fully use his powers before he was able to return to his home dimension.

When he arrived back in Paragon City he was shocked when he caught his reflection. He had physically aged ten years, though only a couple of days had passed at home. He was more muscular, taller, and a blue glow burst from his eyes. At that moment he realized that he couldn't go home again. He took up the name of the In-Betweener and registered as a Hero.

Later that year brother Marcus was in a horrible car accident after his football game. Sebastian picked up on it mentally and rescued him, calling in several favors to save his brother. A good deal of Marcus' body was replaced by cybernetics. When Marcus awoke he was appalled at his new body, but was glad to be alive. He had a short lived career as Cyber Ronin before being killed by a Council ambush. His brother's death hurt him, but Sebastian knew that he couldn't abuse his powers and stop his death, so he chose to let the event pass as it was supposed to, making the first of a long line of choices that would shape his present.

He was asked to run a government funded agency called E-Branch a while later. The two seemed to be a good match for each other, as the duties of one overlapped into the other. He ran the agency for a year before an incident at the Terra Volta reactor took his powers from him. He left this dimension for a while, knowing that there was only one person he could go to to help him; the Outsider. But the Outsider had gone mad, his millenia as the embodiment of light and darkness had driven him insane, but in the one moment of lucidity he helped Sebastian find his powers again, though they'd been changed and locked away by the massive exposure at the nuclear reactor. He returned to Paragon City, but three years had passed in his home dimension in the brief moments that he'd been in the Outsider's dimension. The city had changed, people he'd once loved had moved on, and his parents had died. He withdrew more into his work.

He later received a visitor by the name of Vanessa Kyle. She was his daughter from another dimension, where he had supposedly gone to retire not too far into the distant future. The 18 year old girl gave him some other purpose in his life aside from his duties. And her rebellious attitude softened him up a bit. Shortly after his longtime friend Myrios LeJean, Lord Legion approached him about becoming an 'outside consultant' for the newly reformed E-Branch. He accepted though has recently been swamped in his duties as a Guardian.
