Approximately 5 years ago, a man of the age of twenty-two was kidnapped from Paragon City by an independent mad scientist and taken to Mercy Island in the Etoile Isles. Five years later, that man emerges from a small apartment building, his body dismantled and replaced with cold robotic parts. He had been changed. He was no longer the man that resided in Paragon those many years ago. He was a weapon, an implement whose only purpose was to kill. This is the tale of Jei.

History

Pre-capture

Jei does not say much about his pre-capture life, either due to lack of memory or due to being very sensitive about it. As far as anyone is concerned, he was a normal human before his capture.

Capture and Conversion

At the age of twenty-two, Jei was captured and smuggled to Mercy Island by college dropout by the name of Francis Acula. Acula was without moral, and determined to continue his study of cybernetics despite his expulsion from Paragon University. For five years, Acula kept Jei tied to a table in an old Mercy apartment, occasionally visiting to provide him with food or to chop off some part or another and replace it with a robotic one. Those five years changed him, both physically and psychologically. Eventually, a fire broke out in the Mercy Island apartment, burning the restraints that held Jei to the table. He managed to escape before the building crumbled.

The Black Tie

For many a night after his escape, Jei wandered the rooftops of Mercy, under the delusion that he was a vigilante hero and lashing out at any gang members who got in his way. Eventually, he came across an evil man known as Bad Dream. The man quickly explained to him that the only way to get anywhere in the Isles was to abandon such troublesome restraints as morality and compassion. Within the hour, Bad Dream's words had transformed Jei from a confused vigilante into a loyal member of the terrorist group known as Black Tie.

Jei is currently an Officer of Black Tie.

The Quest for Perfection

Soon after his inauguration into Black Tie, it became apparent to Jei that there was hardly anything efficient about being a hodgepodge of improvised and stolen cybernetics. As soon as the opportunity arose, Jei stole a proper robot body from a cargo ship headed to Paragon. Later on, he had a custom body created, which would be the pale, ivory-haired and red-veined body most people would recognize him by. He replaced the katana he had stolen soon after his escape from captivity with a blade that incorporated micro-vibrations to allow for better slicing capabilities. Later of, Bad Dream awarded Jei with an oversized scalpel-like blade with a monomolecular edge, allowing him partial effectiveness against invulnerable targets.

A Son

Some time after Jei was fitted into his second body, but before he received the Scalpel, Jei came to the conclusion that he was becoming more and more machine with every passing upgrade. He requested to Bad Dream that he have a brain cell extracted from his remaining organic form, and have that cell be made into a younger clone. Bad Dream allowed this, and soon Jei had a next of kin, a twelve-year-old by the name of Ne (pronounced NEH). Almost immediately after Ne's "birth", he was put into a rigorous training program by Jei, who was intent on making Ne the most effective assassin his age would allow, without the use of cybernetics.

Jei's Death

In recent days, the "Juice" that grants Jei his superhuman reflexes, caused unwanted side effects from its prolonged use. Jei was beginning to go insane. Eventually, Jei saw no other option but to end his organic life and become entirely machine. One day prior to his scheduled death, Jei disowned his "son" Ne, saying that after his "death", he would have no emotional attachments to Ne, and would kill him the moment he became an inconvenience. The next day, Jei uploaded his memories to the backup AI system that once was used to protect himself from psionics, before terminating his life. Jei's mechanical exterior still lives, however. It is an unerring machine, driven by sophisticated Artificial Intelligence, and completely loyal to Bad Dream.

Powers, Weapons, and Utilities

Katana AssassinBlade.png Scalpel

Given to him by Bad Dream, this oversized scalpel is more like a sword. It has a monomolecular edge, allowing it to easily split most substances, even invulnerable beings to some extent.

SuperReflexes PracticedBrawler.png "Juice" (No Longer in Use)

"Juice" is a red liquid that Jei's disembodied brain is submersed in, quadrupling his reaction speeds. Despite countless filtering and cleaning systems, Jei must change out the Juice every week or so.

After a self-control incident caused by the Juice, Jei reluctantly removed all remaining organic tissue, backing up his memories on the leftover AI Brain from his Psionic Defense Device.

Travel superspeed.png Modified Benedict Tech Cybernetic Joints

These cybernetic joints were originally designed to provide near-superhuman strength and speed on the applied joint. Jei modified the torque on his joints to provide average strength, but unparalleled speed. This, combined with the enhanced reaction speed his Juice provides, makes him almost impossible to harm in combat.

DarkArmor Hide.png Benedict Tech "Phantom" Cloaking Device

Jei's cloaking device is capable of masking his presence in the entire spectrum of light, as well as his thermal presence. This cloaking device offers no protection from magical or psionic means of vision, however.

SuperReflexes Elude.png "Dead Man Walking" Psionic Defense Device (No Longer in Use)

Until recent days, Jei was extremely susceptible to psionic attacks. Eventually He formulated a way to defend himself. This device ceases all activity in his brain, and runs his mechanical body using a sophisticated AI combat system. Because his brain is inactive, he is undetectable and unaffected by psionics. This device is used very sparingly by Jei, as he isn't very fond of the idea of momentarily killing the remains of his organic body.
