Julia Davis once had a pretty good life for a kid living in the Isles until a seemingly-random monster attack left her orphaned and mutilated. Although her memories of the attack are hazy, it is clear that she lost her arms in the struggle. Despite her hardships, Julia is an optimistic young women with a good heart.

Physiology

Julia is a light-skinned girl of about average height with shoulder-length black hair and blue eyes. She's definitely just a teenager, as her still-developing body shows, though she is a bit more well-developed than others her age. Her most commonly-seen outfit is a tank top (usually red), blue jeans, and sneakers. These are far from her most extraordinary features, though--the first thing that most people notice is that both of her arms are metallic. These "prosthetics," as Julia prefers to call them, have no special features outside of the fact that they are fully functional and give Julia enhanced arm strength. They can actually be removed with a bit of work, but the circular "connectors" at her shoulders have to be removed either surgically or very, very painfully.

Julia also has several scars on the front of her torso. Some of these are visible when she wears her signature tank top.

Personality

Julia has been through many hardships in her life, but that doesn't stop her from trying to make the best of it. She is almost always smiling and never seems to let the little things (or the big things, for that matter) upset her, and she always tries to find the silver lining in every situation. If the people around her are upset, she will try to offer encouraging words to lift their spirits. Some people might call her naive, but Julia firmly believes that being positive makes it easier to survive in a harsh environment like the Rogue Isles.

These optimistic traits, along with the fact that she tends to be a bit scatterbrained, overlay an above-average level of intelligence. She is especially knowledgeable in basic robotics, having learned about them from her father, who worked in Crey Industries' technology branch. Julia loves working with her hands and especially enjoys learning how various machines work.

History

Living in the Etoile Islands is never easy, especially when you're just an impressionable teenager. It's easy to get mugged on the street corner or get drawn into a gang before your sixteenth birthday. Julia, however, was one of the lucky ones. Both of her parents worked for Crey Industries, so she lived in a nice apartment in eastern Nerva Archipelago. She wasn't entirely blind to the dangers of the Isles, though. She knew that if she wandered too far from the safety of Crey's security forces, she was liable to get mugged... or worse.

Julia's luck changed for the worse one night. A monstrous humanoid with huge claws broke into her apartment and killed her parents before it set its sights on Julia. The exact details of what happened next are fuzzy in her mind, but what she does remember is being attacked by the beast before someone burst into the apartment and pulled it off of her. She woke up in the hospital several weeks later and discovered that her arms had been replaced by fully-functional cybernetics. The nurse explained that they were nothing more than "fancy prostheses," though she couldn't tell her patient who had commissioned them for her or why. Whether it was due to a lack of knowledge or one of the Isles' infamous backdoor confidentiality deals is unknown.

Julia spent several more weeks in rehabilitation, learning to properly control her new arms and how to deal with the added weight. With her parents deceased, no other known family in the Isles, and drained assets due to her extended stay in the hospital, Julia had to be sent to an orphanage when her recovery was complete. She was interviewed by Father O'Connely of Father Gerard Henri's Home for Wayward Youth, who explained that he would allow her to stay at the Home in exchange for doing "chores." Of course, Julia knew that "chores" meant more than just cleaning the toilets or sweeping the halls, but she never would have expected that she would become a trainee hero for the Home's secret Order.

Despite the fact that life at the Home is far from the cushy life she lived in Nerva, Julia has taken it all in stride. She does whatever she can to help the Order, whether that means beating a foe into submission or using her enhanced strength to get past some obstacle. She's still in training, though, and she has a long way to go before she's ready to take on a "real" threat.

Powers, Abilities, and Weaknesses

Technically, Julia has no powers. Her "super strength" comes from her cybernetic arms, which allow her to lift heavy objects and deliver powerful punches to her foes. Aside from a currently-unknown limit to their durability, Julia is also prevented from lifting particularly heavy objects by her totally organic legs and spine.

The only defense she really has against enemy attacks is using her arms as a shield. Fortunately, her ability to focus her mind away from negative things allows her to sustain more injuries than usual without being hindered. If she's not careful, though, she could end up ignoring some pretty bad wounds. This mindset also protects her mind from extensive probing--anyone who read her mind would only see pieces of what they were after before being "redirected" to something else. Unbeknownst to her, she also has a strong psionic wall that protects the secrets of the Order from prying... er... whatever it is psychics pry with.

Concept and Creation

Julia was made specifically for Father Henri's unique theme: a teenager in the Isles trying to become a hero. She was also the second idea I had for what I like to call "Katawa Shoujo with superpowers." (The first was a burn victim who gained control over fire because of the incident. I couldn't seem to make her anything more than a Hanako copy, so I scrapped her.) Her backstory and personality were a bit harder to create, but after noticing that a lot of characters in Father Henri's came from really troubled backgrounds, I decided to twist things up a bit and make it so that Julia actually had a good life and was optimistic about the future in spite of her life falling apart.

The "clawed humanoid" in her backstory is actually based on the creepypasta creature known as The Rake. (Warning: Searching for The Rake may lead to disturbing, gory images. You have been warned.)
