Kanaki Sakiko was created as a gag character, like most Sushis. She was a little late in jumping on the bandwagon, but is now an integral part of the group. She maintains her gag roots, but has developed mostly into a satirical take on shoujo animes and the Japanese idol system.

Brief

Kanaki Sakiko, or Kana for short, is one of three co-Student Council Leaders of the Sushi Schoolgirl Squad. She's a good student, especially in English and History, but devotes less and less time to her studies as her Sushi duties and Idol career require more and more attention.

Personality

Kana has a dual personality; the first, her real personality, is the one more commonly shown to her closest friends, while her second, her stage personality, is the one that most people see.

Kana is the original Dark Sushi. She's cynical, sarcastic, insulting, and satirical whenever possible. Many are the friendships she has strained or dissolved over the years due to her sometimes caustic personality. Indeed, even her best of friends are forced to admit that Kana can be a extremely bitchy when she wants to be. Though most of her comments are meant in a teasing fashion, Kana has little concept of tact and thus often tends to go overboard with her remarks. This usually results in some sort of altercation that resolves itself with Kana and the other party involved promising to be best friends forever until the next time Kana insults them.

Kana has a very "do-it-yourself" personality. She doesn't hesitate to get work done by herself, though she welcomes the aid of her friends when possible. Still, she's not the type to slow down for a lagging team member, nor to offer encouraging words or a sympathetic shoulder when such a teammate stumbles. In such a situation, Kana's more likely to press on without the teammate than to wait for them to catch up. This can sometime come off as overconfidence, but in reality Kana's had very little experience with threats she cannot handle by herself. Indeed, she's been known to be the last one standing on a team, and single-handedly remove the opposition using a combination of guile and brute force.

The result is an extremely strong work ethic even out of combat. Kana takes her duties as a Sushi Council Leader and an Idol very seriously, and often finds her social life lacking due to her commitments on both ends. She can occasionally become hectic when overloaded with too much responsibility, but more often than not she discharges these duties effectively at the expense of her free time. It is not uncommon to find her at the Sushi Teahouse dealing with Sushi business immediately after a plane flight from Japan, where she performs concerts regularly.

Kana is still very young. Though all Sushis are assumed to be 18 years of age or older and attending a proper secondary school, Kana was actually only 16 when she joined the Sushis in America, and is prone to all of the mistakes of an average 16 year old. She regularly mismanages her relationships, especially her romantic ones, is prone to sudden bouts of temper, and wears her heart on her sleeve. In the past, she has been accused of being capable of "dishing it out" but not capable of "taking it in."

Powers

Kana's powers do not actually stem from the Sushi line, though the resemblance of her powers to the Sakiko family's own is somewhat uncanny. She is capable of emitting powerful magic that extremely weakens her opponents, as well as launching powerful pink blasts to decimate them. The use of all of her powers tends to tire her quickly, however, and for this reason she often uses her blasts sparingly, preferring to let her teammates take down the opponents while she uses her powers to weaken them.

Kana has occasionally been accused of cheating in honorable combat or duels between friends. While such accusations have never been proven, most of her friends will admit that such actions are likely not beyond her at all.

Idol Career

Kana has a career outside of her co-leadership of the Sushi Schoolgirl Squad, which tends to fall to the wayside while she's having a particularly busy time with said career. She's a Japanese idol girl, the latest in a long line of short-lived crazes in which a girl is catapulted to the height of stardom, releasing record albums, making public appearances, performing concerts, and occasionally (for the more successful ones) starring in movies, before crashing down to the lowest levels of public disinterest. Kana has been an idol for about six months now, and was on her way down when she made the decision to reinvigorate her career by joining the Sushi Schoolgirl Squad, which offered her an invitation through her adopted parents. Due to the popularity of the Sushis, this was a tremendously successful idea, and Kana enjoys a high place on the idol charts with no signs of slipping any time soon.

Much of Kana's success if due to the mysterious Agent-san, who Kana has stated she thinks of as a better surrogate parent than the Sakikos had ever been to her. Though Agent-san eschews public appearances, Kana has been noted to occasionally comment on his wings, or how he burns with fire when he's angry. This has led some to speculate that Agent-san is in fact a youma, a Japanese demon. In reality, Agent-san is the Envoy of Shadows, working a side-job to fund his addiction to sacrificial altars, which the heroes of Paragon seem so intent on destroying. Much like Kana, he claims that his job as the Envoy of Shadows requires him to be mean and look like he's about to kill tons of people, when in reality he's actually a gentle soul with a penchant for crosswords and sudoku. Regardless, the business savvy of Agent-san has propelled multiple careers into the spotlight, including that of Kana and Kana's brother, Robbie Macros, now-world-famous surfer.

To date, Kana has released two albums. The first album, "Black and Pink," titled in English even in Japan, stole elements from the American emo-punk scene and added them to the J-Pop genre. The result was an album that gained notable public interest due to its unusual sound. The album kicked off Kana's career, opening at number twelve on the Japanese record sales charts and peaking at number four, with Kana's single, "Love Love wa Salty", peaking at number one for two consecutive weeks. Her second album, "Getsumei no Busha" (Moonlight Warrior), was released about a month after she joined the Sushi Schoolgirl Squad. It debuted at number four on the charts, peaked at number one for four consecutive weeks, fell to number two for one week, then climbed back to number one a week later. At two and a half months old, the album still maintained a respectable showing at number twenty-eight. The album had three hit singles, "Getsumei no Busha," the hit-single from which the album took its name, "Strange and Tasty," and "Love Love Faito Faito!" (Love Love Fight Fight). The music video for "Getsumei no Busha" also peaked at number one for three weeks.

Kana makes various public appearances, and often flies back to Japan for various concert tours, each of which tend to last about a week as she mad-dashes about the country before returning to Japan. She has a movie set for release in March titled, "Kanaki Sakiko and Friends: For Great Justice!", but the movie has seen production delays as of late. Most notably, the final showdown in which Kana calls on her Sushi friends to help destroy the evil Youma Kefukagawa, played by Agent-san, has yet to be shot due to scheduling conflicts.
