Kid Radiant was my first teen character. I wanted to try out a defender, and kinetics seemed like a fun choice. So far, he's been one of my favorite characters to play.

Personality
Kid Radiant tends to be energetic and twitchy. He doesn't mean to be rude, but it's hard for him to concentrate on one thing for too long. His mind assimilates information at an increased rate, and simple activities can be a chore. A conversation with him can go constantly off on different tracks, but he always manages to complete each train of thought. He's friendly and outgoing, and normally has no problem meeting people or making friends. He has a definite sense of right and wrong, but does understand there are sometimes gray areas. He hates bullies of all types, and deplores those who harm children. He is fascinated by geology and biology, and is considering devoting the time for a degree in both fields. In his free time, he likes to swim, go clubbing, and practise his gymnastics.
Powers
Kid Rad's powers stem from his mutated metabolism.
Radiation Emission
Kid Rad's radioactive mutation allows him to produce and fire off bolts or clouds of radioactive particles. His body apparently absorbs ambient radiation and stores it in his cells, charging his body like an organic battery. Kid is able to release this energy as concussive bolts, choking clouds, or thin concentrated beams. By concentrating, he can release almost all of his stored energy in a single powerful blast, which damages anything around him, but doing so leaves him drained until his body can rebuild his energy stores.
Kinetic Manipulation
Manifesting as a result of his radioactive mutation interacting with the medication he took to control his ADHD, this ability allows him to manipulate kinetic energy both in it's potential and active forms. He can "borrow" energy from a subject, increasing his own speed or the force of his blows. He can also enable those around him to share in this benefit. This transfer involves inertial force, making the subject move and strike as though slowed, while the recipient(s) move proportionately faster and hit harder. By canceling the inerita on himself, he can leap incredible distances. His favorite tactic in battle is his "fulcum shift" ability, which transfers the energy from a group of foes to Kid Rad and his team mates, thus often turning the tide of battle in seconds as it boosts their powers immensely.
Knowledge Base
Due to his ability to learn at an accelerated rate, Kid Radiant has acquired at least the basics on many areas of study. He can usually be counted on to know the answer to most queries on common topics, and is phenomenal at Trivial Pursuit.
Agility
Even before his abilities surfaced, Kid Rad was a competition level gymnast. After his powers kicked in, this ability was put to the test even further as he struggled to master his increased speed. Having to constantly dodge obstacles and pedestrians has honed his agility to the utmost.
Character History
Barrett "Barry" Tyndell became a hero the night several Skulls decided to mug him and his friends during a night at the movies. After one of the thugs struck and attempted to rob one of the group, Barry reacted by lashing out at the gangster with a bolt of brilliant green energy. Despite being as surprised as the crooks, he somehow managed to take out all of the assailants, and became a media darling as "Kid Radiant", the name he facetiously gave the interviewing reporter. Liking the attention, he decided to create a costume, and his new identity was truly born. Shortly after this incident, his new powers interacted with the medication he was taking to control his attention deficit-hyperactive disorder, and he gained the ability to manipulate and utilise the kinetic energy of others. This caused his ADHD to disappear almost completely, but he still has a hard time concentrating on one subject, since he hates the thought of missing out on something cool by limiting himself. By the time of his graduation from high school, he had made quite a name for himself in the press. He made the acquaintance of the Guardian Angels Reborn group, and became friends with several of their number. When Dreamkatcher and Brimstone Bobby, two of the Angels, conceived the idea of opening a school for superhuman children and teens, he volunteered to help. His ability to research and manage large amounts of information made setting up the school records much easier, and he now works as a teacher's aide for most of the staff, as well as serving as an assistant gymnastics coach. Having moved to his own apartment in Talos Island to be closer to the school, he patrols the area daily, doing his best to make the area safe and keeping the local coffee and donut shops in business.
