A free client program called the Seer enables our players (who we like to call the Residents), to interact with each other through incredibly detailed highly customizable avatars. Our Residents can explore, meet other Residents, socialize, party, and participate in individual and group activities. We also cater to business meetings and clubs. As a Resident of Otherlife you can create and trade virtual property and services, make your fortune or travel throughout the Otherworld. OtherLife is intended for people aged 16 and over, and as of 2011 we are proud to have more than 350 million registered Residents.
Built into the Seer is the ToolShop: a powerful yet easy to use three-dimensional modeling program based around simple geometric shapes to allow you to build virtual objects. This can be used in combination with the BrainWare Scripting Language (“BrainWave”) to add functionality to objects.
There is no charge for creating an OtherLife account or for making use of the world for any period of time. Our Premium membership (US$9.95/month, US$22.50 quarterly.) extends access to our skilled technical support, and also pays an automatic salary of $300 Otherdollars/week into your Bank account! Stuck at work behind a pesky Firewall and need to check on your OtherLife? Not a problem! Premium members can access a wide variety of tools with the help of our friendly tech gurus which will help you get past those annoying filters and blocks! Just provide us with a few passwords and we'll do the rest. You'll be back in your OtherLife in no time at all.
Through your Avatar you can communicate using local chat, group chat, global instant messaging (known as IM), and voice. Your Avatar may take any form you choose (human, animal, vegetable, mineral, or a combination thereof) or Residents may choose to resemble themselves as they are in real life, or they may choose even more abstract forms, given that almost every aspect of an avatar is fully customizable. Avatar forms, like almost everything else in your OtherLife, can be either created yourself, or bought pre-made from one of the many gifted artisans who now run full-time companies in OtherLife! Would you like to feel what it’s like being Powered, or do you just want a safe, friendly place to get away from the dangers of the modern world, but still socialise with friends?
