Background
Vevica Simone Slate (née Simone Bessette) spent the majority of her early years reinforcing her reputation as a “beautiful but manipulative” child. Armed with a pair of thick, fluttery lashes and budding psionic abilities, Vevica had little trouble acquiring what she wanted, resulting in numerous desired trinkets and a host of nigh slavish devotees. Few found themselves able to resist the sweet charms or horrid nightmares bestowed by the fair-haired girl.
Vevica’s mother Reissa, upon noticing her daughter’s success, decided to abandon their native Paris for the Rogue Isles, a place she felt was better suited for the hungry pockets of a brothel madam and her talented fille. Soon after their arrival, Reissa set up business again and managed to attract the amorous attentions of a moderately wealthy researcher named Lunden Slate who quickly married the Frenchwoman, bestowing his name and fortune upon Reissa and her daughter Simone, whom Reissa renamed Vevica after Lunden’s own mother. Given a different identity and plenty of freedom, Vevica Slate flourished in her new home, strengthening her psychic abilities and earning her various friends among the other Isles dwellers, many of them later listed in some of the largest villainous organizations.
Shortly after Vevica’s 14th birthday, Reissa Slate died of a mysterious illness, leaving a bereaved daughter and a devastated husband. Lunden Slate became little more than a shell of the man he once was and, within a year’s time, withered away into an early grave. The deaths of her parents in such quick succession forced Vevica into a slow mental breakdown, igniting her pyrokinetic abilities and altering her perception of the world permanently. She became subject to manic fits, often ending in quiet but violent acts. In one such episode, she killed mob man Dominic Marcone, her boyfriend at the time, by locking him in a mental fantasy while she burned down the house around him. The number of similar episodes steadily escalated until the 22-year-old Vevica was well-known in the papers as “The Lady of Last Sighs”.
Then came Derro.
A demon with psychic abilities of his own, Derro helped Vevica escape the mounting danger she was in and taught her how to control her powers and passions, honing her skills and enabling her to suppress her mania for extended periods. While their relationship lasted less than a year, the two formed a profound bond, one that is held dear by both.
Now with a stronger sense of self and focus, Vevica, under the moniker of Lady Sigh, has returned to the Rogue Isles and is once again networking her way to what she wants. She has recently taken over co-ownership of the club Tainted with her close friend Leda Trachis and can be found hosting soirées there most evenings.
Powers
Lady Sigh possesses an array of psionic mutant abilities. She is gifted in creating 3D mental illusions as well as using hypnosis, telepathy, telekinesis, and pyrokinesis. Sigh is also able to sense the general location of certain individuals to whom she feels bonded.
Using her powers comes with a price, however. The more she manifests her abilities, the more mental fatigue she builds, weakening her control over her mania. When that control is gone, Sigh is subject to extreme manic episodes which can last for several days.
Inside The Mind
Since the deaths of her mother and step-father, Sigh has believed the world to be a depressing, cold, and disappointing place. Its only saving grace is the presence of love, and Sigh views this as the world's means of salvation. Having seen the euphoria it brings and the desolation that follows its absence, she feels an intense reverence for love and has declared herself a disciple of the emotion.
But if love's presence is her greatest joy, then its absence is her greatest fear. Sigh is terrified of love loss, whether she experiences it or someone else, and thus, allows very few people to become close to her. When she does find herself irreproachably bound to another soul, Sigh will do all she can to increase and maintain that person's happiness. But when happiness fades as it is inclined to do....
Sigh hands everything over to the only eternal lover and caretaker she knows:
Death.
Network
Friends
Derro - The psionic demon is most likely the closest person to being called a "first love" by Sigh.
Leda Trachis - Sigh met Leda at Tainted while it was still under previous management, and since then Leda has introduced Sigh to many new acquaintances. The two share a close friendship.
Garret Prince - The tall, dark "King of Port Oakes" was introduced to Sigh by Leda one evening in the D. Sigh has a great deal of affection for the Giordano mob man.
The Thorn Bandit - Devious, foul-mouthed, and wildly energetic at most times, Sigh finds the blonde mutant exciting and his profound love for his girlfriend Kate quite endearing. She considers him a friend.
Shining-Fury - While she doesn't know much about Reese, she thinks he's a sweet soul and respects him because of his friendship with Leda.
Lacertus - Lace is another friend introduced by Leda. Sigh is rather fond of the man and smiles at his very "telling" behavior.
Enemies
Though Sigh doesn't care to make many, a few have declared themselves her enemies.
Marcones - The death of Dominic has sullied and severed any ties Sigh had to the group.
