Affiliations
After her arrival in Praetoria, Mach Four has allied herself with the Resistance in order to find a way back home to Paragon City. However, due to circumstances, she was forced to join as a member of the Praetorian Powers Division. She dislikes the cloak and dagger missions she did, preferring cleaner cut objectives. Since returning home she’s join the [Justice Girls Academy].

Upbeat and cheerful, Susan is ready to lend a hand. She likes cats and dogs and other small, furry things. She’s confident in herself and her abilities, and as a hero prides herself on her amazing and seemingly unmatched speed.
Character History
Growing up as a normal girl, Susan St. Tanner seemed ready to work in her father’s auto shop in Talos Island. She was capable as a mechanic and repaired household appliances for fun and to figure out how they worked. This didn’t change until a field trip to Portal Corp.
Portal Corp, reluctantly, agreed to the trip in order to inspire the next generation of scientist to work with them. One of the scientist’s was showing off an operating portal to the wowed children, explaining each and every detail. Little did anyone know that a strike team from Arachnos was also on route, one of their gunships dropping an EMP bomb into the Portal Corp’s courtyard.
The EMP didn’t, however knockout the portal which was protected, but the effect on other unprotected systems caused it to Malfunction. The students were ushered away from the portal, Susan among them until one of her classmates fell. Not even thinking she turned back, helping her up and pulling her along. When it seemed as if the portal was about to explode she shoved her past the doors. What happened, however, was not an explosion.
A burst of energy lanced out of the portal striking her. To all appearances she was vaporized right there. Instead, however she was taken to another world.
Praetoria.
Finding herself lost in a wasteland she looked about, trying to swallow her fear as she explored the land about her only to be attacked by the Devouring Earth. Screaming she turned and fled, a massive boom sounding about her as she ran blindly. Collapsing soon after she found herself near a beach despite none being in sight before then. Unsure of what just happened she stopped to think.
Catching her breath she started running again, this time paying attention as the world began to blur about her. She was able to make the boom again, breaking the sound barrier as she laughed at the feeling of running faster than the wind, finding her perception and reflexes changed the faster she went, letting her weave about obstacles.
Once she slowed back down she began to consider what to do. She was lost in a strange world with nothing but the clothes on her back and a new power. As she started to worry about whether or not she’d be able to get home she spotted lights on the horizon and took off for them.
Finding a small city she entered and was taken in by a kindly old man. When she explained what happened he told her of the Hamidon Wars, Praetoria and Emperor Cole and then rumours of the Resistance.
For about a week she lived in the city of New Detroit before someone from the Powers Division came to town. Word had gotten to them about her and her new powers and she was offered the chance to train and learn about her powers. Despite some misgivings she took the offer and returned to the Imperial City with them. Under their watchful eyes the found she had the ability to passively steal kinetic energy from everywhere around her, storing it within herself and even gathering it actively to generate intense amounts of force. Because of her lack of past, in Praetoria anyway, she was given a citizenship card. She never told them, however, about her accident in Portal Corp, feeling something was off.
Slowly things in the shining city began to look off. Freedom of speech seemed stifled. No one seemed to have any drive. People would be taken away for seemingly harmless infractions. And everywhere she went where images of Emperor Cole, who seemed oddly familiar until she placed it.
Statesman. He was Statesman, or rather a version both like and unlike him.
Eventually she learned that she had been drafted, without foreknowledge and consent, to the Powers Division. With little choice she began the job, apprehending a Resistance leader, only to meet up with a group of them. One of them, Calvin Scott, encouraged her to join the Resistance, telling her that he talked to the old man and knew she wasn’t of this dimension and offering assistance to return home if she could help them by infiltrating the Loyalists of the Imperial City. Feeling she had little other choice she accepted.
Starting under the watchful eye of Praetor White, then under Calvin Scott while that eye looked elsewhere she accomplished missions that helped subvert Cole’s authority while fighting publicly against the likes of the Destroyers and Syndicate. Eventually she met the Dark Watcher during one of her missions when she learned that the Praetorians were planning an invasion of her Earth. Staying only long enough to sabotage the Praetorian war machine she soon entered a portal to return her to Primal Earth where she decided to become a hero with one objective; protect it from the coming war.
Powers
Kinetic Manipulation (Kinetic Melee & Brute’s Fury Bar)
Mach Four is able to passively absorb and store kinetic energy from around her and once stored it can be unleashed with great amounts of force, although she has yet to learn how to project the energy past point blank range. She can also actively collect the energy, using circular motions to collect and focus the kinetic energy needed. In the rate at which she draws energy increases as she’s using it, allowing for stronger and stronger attacks over time.
Super Speed & Super Reflexes
Mach Four is, despite her name, able to reach speeds of about mach six if needed. Inside of cities she keeps her impressive speed down to avoid destroying property or scaring civilians. In addition the faster she goes the greater her perception, allowing her to avoid slamming into objects or people. She can also willingly alter her perception at lesser speeds, letting her dodge most attacks from punches to bullets with little effort. Her Kinetic Manipulation powers lets he produce a field about her that both protects her from high speed impacts and reduces wind resistance and friction.
Equipment
Reinforced Boots and Gloves
Made by scientists attached to the Powers Division, Mach Four was offered a suit of light armour designed to work with her powers for her use, which she declined as it slowed her down and limited her movement. Despite this she took the plated boots and gloves for their durability and ability to withstand high speed impacts from both running and hitting at super speeds.

Creator Notes and Trivia
- Mach Four began as a concept speedster and was, originally, a Martial Arts/Willpower Scrapper. During the build up to Going Rogue she was changed into a Martial Arts/Super Reflex Scrapper to get used to Super Reflexes with plans to change her into a Kinetic Melee/Super Reflexes Brute. During Going Rogue, however, it was felt she would better fit the concept as a Kinetic Melee/Super Reflexes Brute.
- Her original costume was checkers with a yellow and red pattern with red hair. It was changed to her current costume with the gloves (Tech Sleek) and boots (Winged Boots) being added later.
