Once an architect, Cornell Lamonte James, or C.J., was born mutant. No deformations, no noticeable differences, and no catastrophic level-like powers had developed which gave him the grace of passing for a regular African American teenager during his youth. Approached by the High Fathers of the Psionic Division, or Psi-Division, at the age of 23, Cornell was taken to the planet Cri. Under the tutelage of Quinton Karr, Cornell was trained under extreme measures and pressure to become Earth's 9th ambassador for the Psi Division. Upon completion, a war had developed between the Psi Division and the Black Plane causing all members of the Division to engage in battle. After the 3 month war, Quinton Karr was listed under the number of causalities, and someone had to take his place. Saddened, Cornell had automatically became Earth's 8th ambassador, and to pay his respects to the man who had helped him become the hero that he is, he took up the moniker of Mirage being the 5th descendant of those whom have passed who had also wore the alias.

The Cortex Log

All you need to know is that I am a conqueror. I am a man of courage, a man of faith, a man of high morals, ethics, and I thrive on the principles of individuality. I am that single thought—that voice you interpret as your conscience when the decision to decide what is right and what is wrong plagues you like sickness. I am that feeling you receive when there is guilt to be felt when wrong, and a heart to be used when needed to be gentle. I am an essence truly born unto the world to be its light, it’s hope, it’s last breathe—that last leg to stand on when nothing else will hold her up. I am strong because I chose to be. Born human with weaknesses of my own I have chosen to defeat them, for they cannot hold me back from the peace, greatness and prosperity that I was destined to bring since before I was born.

God determined who I was going to be before I was planted in my mother’s womb. I am no freak. I am no abomination. I am no mistake. They question my position and my being as a whole. They derive at their conclusions based off of my race and my DNA. Can he be trusted? Can he perform the tasks like the others? As a person who doesn’t thrive off of attempting to emulate the success of others, all I am capable of saying is that I perform my duties with the best in conduct. Hailing from the city of Baltimore, Maryland, and raised under a privileged middle-class family that is all I can do. That is what I have been taught to do. My gifts are not my curse. Since they had been developed I was brought up under that phrase. As a male of African-descent and a brother of the homo-superior race, I have pride. I have dignity. I have a self-instilled drive to strive for the best at any and all possible times. Trials and tribulations have shaped and forced me to become the man that I am today. The loss of loved ones, discrimination, prejudice, pain, suffering, jealousy are the things I owe some form of tribute to. For if it had not been for those troubling times, I would not be able to speak before the Cortex with such stalwartness in my veins and blood. As a member of the supreme order of the Psionic Division, I am here to herald and defend the world at all costs. Again, my gifts are not my curse. There is a power—a psychic essence—that is growing within me as the days grow tired and start anew. The High Fathers of the Division have prophesized over me, and have drawn to the conclusion that a great power lies within. Until that power is awakened, I shall remain at my acme, and always rising to fight. Evil is my enemy, and those who lust in it’s eyes have found a hero to contend with.

I have taken the moniker of those who have came before me as a tribute to the great whom have fallen in battle. I stand by no evil. I stand by faith, not by sight, and I also stand by who I am at all times, for I am Cornell Lamonte James, Earth’s Ambassador of the Supreme Order of the Psionic Division. I am, Mirage 5, and if I have gone on to be with those whom have left this earth as well, to the one who has stumbled upon this Cortex log, I chose you to take my position as Mirage 6. That is my dying wish, and my only will. Be blessed. Mental Journal Log: Records
