Biography

Mishi started out as a child. A good, happy, friendly child. She was lucky to be accepted by her peers for her cat-like features instead of being shunned. She had a normal life, doing average at school, playing with her friends, flirting when she got older. It all changed in her senior year at Ravenwood High School.

Mishi was attending the senior prom with her steady girlfriend Lisa when the power at the hotel went out. At first it was just another memory on a night full of memories, the students laughing and joking about what would happen in the darkness. Strong hands suddenly grasped Mishi, ripping her out of Lisa's embrace. The catgirl tried to cry out in protest but another gloved hand was over her mouth. A needle pricked her neck, and the darkness became total.

When Mishi woke up, she was strapped to a table. Her first thought when she looked down at herself was where her dress had gone. The second was much more serious. Until that moment, her fur-covered body was always white with gray stripes. Now it was all inverted, white stripes on gray fur. It was moments later that a masked doctor was beside her, and another needle pricked her neck. The last image she saw before falling back into darkness was a large blue C.

Sunlight against her eyelids brought Mishi back to consciousness. When she opened them she immediately felt a sense of relief. She was in her room, in her bedroom, safe from the nightmare doctor and his needles. She stretched and got up, padding into the bathroom. She started the faucet, cupping water in her hands and splashing her face. Slowly she pulled her hands back, eyes wide. On her left palm there was a strange tattoo. It looked like a black skull, jaws open in a constant shriek. On her right palm there was another tattoo, this one of the sun being fully eclipsed. As she looked back at her reflection, she saw white stripes. Gray fur. The nightmare was real.

Her panicked cry brought Mishi's human mother to her. Meredith's first reaction was confusion at her daughter's changed physical appearance, but the second was seeing the tears and shaking. She wrapped the teenager tightly in her arms, Mishi sobbing against her shoulder. "Ssh, ssh, I'm here kitten." As she calmed down, Mishi described through her tears the night. From dancing closely with Lisa to the power outage to the kidnapping and the doctor, the story came out. Finally she shared how she had discovered the tattoos on her palms. "Let me see." Meredith had no way of knowing those would be the last words she spoke.

When she opened her hand, Mishi felt a prickling sensation run down her arm. At the same time, she folded her ears instinctly against the evil scream that was suddenly bouncing around the small bathroom. Before her eyes, a black skull lept from her hand and sunk into her mother's chest. Meredith's body jerked and her head rolled back, black smoke floating up from her nose, mouth and ears before she collapsed bonelessly to the floor, not breathing. A second shriek filled the bathroom, this one from a terrified catgirl.

The 911 tape later would be added to the growing archive of when someone would come into a power and harm someone close to them. Sadly, it was in the special section of the vault where the victims didn't survive. Meredith's death rocked the small Atlanta suburb to its core. People she had grown up with, gone to school and played with when she really was a kitten turned their back on Mishi. The worst day of her life was when Lisa, her beautiful smart Lisa, said never to talk to her again.

When things couldn't look any worse, Mishi got a phone call from the mage organization MAGI. They had heard of what Crey Industries had done to her and wanted to take her under their wing. It was guessed that Mishi had somehow been infused with magical energy and MAGI was very interested in trying to figure out how it was done, then how they could undo it if Mishi wished.

Visions swimming in her mind of returning to normal, returning to her friends, to her Lisa, Mishi agreed immediately. It wasn't long until the plane ticket arrived to take her from Georgia to Rhode Island. Once there, they tested from what she described had happened to her mother. Careful testing revealed that any living being shown the tattoos on her hands would be attacked by some sort of dark magic. The only one it wouldn't work on was Mishi herself.

Now, Moonshadow taken as her heroine name, Mishi continues testing that dark power on the criminals that fill Paragon City. Every time she uses her power, MAGI becomes a little closer to reversing the process, so Mishi goes out often to fulfill their wishes. It's all for her Lisa, Mishi tells herself. Saving others, though, is a very nice side effect.
