Mouse of War is currently a member of the Knights of Paragon, formerly a member of the Angry Angel Devas and the World Explorer Mission Squad.

Personality

Even though Mouse has been a hero for some time, she still feels out of place and uncomfortable with other heroes. There is always a nagging doubt that she should be doing this, and that causes her to be overly reckless at times. She battles her own insecurities by charging into the bad guys.

Character History

Mouse of War started as a hero in March 2005, before the arenas opened to the general public. She quietly hunted Vahzilok and his creations, especially a female Eidolon that haunted her dreams. She has never learned that Eidolon's name, despite several close encounters.

She joined the Angry Angel Devas and remained as member for her entire career. After a year of adventuring, she gained her level 50 security clearance after helping Hammer of G O D arrest Dreck one more time. During this time, she had faced numerous enemies and had earned some recognition for her hard work. Shortly afterwards, she quietly retired and vanished from sight.

In late 2006, another hero registered with the city as Mouse of War. She was similar in size and height, with similar abilities, but far weaker than the previous Mouse of War. Also, her hair is pink instead of white. The original Mouse of War started with pink hair as well, but it went white later in her career and remained that way. A few hero mavens debate whether she is or is not the original Mouse of War or an imposter trying to take her place.

Not many know the story behind Mouse of War, and those that do often have nightmares... Are you certain you want to listen?

I was a delivery girl for Paragon Pizza in Galaxy City. Quick, nimble, and enough of a tomboy to learn how to punch and take a fall, I was the best they had. The Hellions that tried to harass me often found themselves being turned over to the police. A few of my favorite customers thought of me as a heroine even back then because of the way I handled myself.

I just was trying to make it, one day at a time. I never considered myself special or great. Just Mouse, a tiny woman who had grown tired of reading books and hiding from the world. And the only job that I could get in that economy was as a delivery girl. Me, the little Mouse, having to deliver pizzas to strange people! But it turned out that I had a knack for quick small talk, so things weren’t as bad as I thought they would be.

That fateful day, I just was in no mood to be messing around. I lost a shoe to a dog, got stiffed on a tip, and my last delivery turned out to be a misorder so it was a total waste. I was more than a little tired and frustrated when I walked right into a gangland war between a group of Skulls, Clockwork, Vahzilok, Council, and a group of wanna be heroes. Wanting nothing more to get back to the store so that I could clock out and go home, I made a very stupid decision -- and charged right in.

I dodged, twisted, and slid through the crowd with an ease that an eel would approve of. The store was just in sight, and I seriously thought that I could wiggle my way safely through them and clock out. But there are some things you cannot dodge so easy, and a Tesla Knights lightning attack left me stunned and weak on the ground.

The next thing I knew, a big stinking thing had tossed me over a wall and out of the fight. Which was bad, because there was Dr Vahzilok himself. As he cut me, he spoke gently of the wonders a man of science could accomplish with time and patience. How he needed the perfect parts and pieces to make a supreme being. Still stunned, unable to move or scream, I just had to quietly endure the pain.

When the fighting was over, a hero found what remained of me. Vahzilok had taken my legs and hips, both arms, my jaw, and some of my insides. Somehow I was still alive, and I desperately did not want to die. The hero called another over, and he constantly healed me as they rushed me to the medical center. The doctors there did what they could, but they told my rescuer that even if I did survive, I would be confined to a bed for the rest of my life. There were some things they just could not undo.

That night, a miracle happened. A friend showed up, someone that I thought was cute and wished that I had a sister to hook him up with. But I never thought of him as special or powerful. He was. He showed me things that I never dreamed of. A future where the heroes won, a future in which they lost. A future in which heroes and villains stood side by side fighting an evil greater than any that we have seen before.

Then he offered me a deal. A new body, powers, abilities. The price was that I had to fight, that I had to do my part to save the world. And one day, when I had done enough, he would make me whole again. Flesh and blood, able to retire and raise a family. It would take time though, because his miracles where small ones.

I accepted. That morning, much to the surprise to the doctors, I had donned my costume and was heading for the door. He has told me many things, all of which have been true. He says he knows just about everything. Much to my amusement, he still can't figure out where the tail came from.

Character History, Out of Character

Minions of Vahzilok were busy harvesting parts when the brawl happened at the arena construction site in Galaxy City. Maggie, stunned, in the black and red uniform of Paragon Pizza, was mistaken for a hero and was harvested. She lost her arms, an eye, her jaw, and most of her lower body. The chemicals that Vahzilok used to control the bleeding was what kept her alive long enough for a couple of unnamed heroes to rescue her.

The replacement body parts are of simple materials like iron and tin, with silver and other precious materials mixed in. Her arms and legs were hollow, without wiring and gears. They should not function, but do. The other covering is a soft warm flesh like substance, working identical to a normal humans skin other then it is not technically living tissue. The exact method that they work and how they became bonded to her is a mystery, other then that it was a "gift from a friend".

The regeneration had a side effect: not only was the metal parts being constantly repaired, but it was also regrowing her internal organs, muscles, and bones. Though becoming a normal human was a goal for her, it also meant that she was becoming more susceptible to damage. She was becoming weaker, unable to handle the massive amounts of damage like she once was.

Shortly after obtaining level 50, she retired from the active hero life but was still seen from time to time searching the sewers for an unnamed Eidolon.

In late 2006, she noticed that she was changing. Her sense of smell was becoming more sensitive, and minor cuts and bruises began to heal as quickly as they once had. With rumors of a female Eidolon terrizoring citizens, Mouse signed up as a hero once more. A DATA evaluation determined that she needed her security reset back to level 1 until her powers improved to their former level.

Creator Notes and Trivia

Feb 2005, a friend of mine gave me the Valentines free trial for City of Heroes. I was a little blah, a little excited.

I visited the boards, tried a couple of ATs, but wasn't happy. Then, I made Mouse of War. And feel in love. I don't know why, but she just appealed to me. I had made up a quick background story just to have a little filler, and suddenly CoH clicked. I was in love, and enjoying playing. And then I started writing little stories. I colored them with some of my own experiences. A little timid, shy, unbecoming, not worried about other people’s opinions, and made some plans for the future for her.

About level 10, I came back to Atlas for a mission and saw all these women dancing under the statue. I stopped and watched. I wanted to say hi, to see if I could join in something that looked so fun. Aranita talked to me first, and a few minutes later I was an Angel.

Mouse was never that great. She wasn't tough, and didn't do that much damage compared to other scrappers (there was a Katana scrapper she regularly teamed with that could almost double her damage). I planned on retiring her when she made 50. The fun is in the journey, as they say. When all the nerfs from I5 and I6 took effect, it seriously broke my heart how badly it hurt her. Previously, Regeneration could overcome some of my mistakes and slotting extra damage into Claws made her effective enough to hold her own on teams. After the nerfs, that was no longer the case.

In 2006, I deleted Mouse of War and remade her. I was holding onto the name for the future but I just could not give up on playing her again.
