Created by the mad scientist whom merely refers to himself as "Subjective Cruelty", Necromatrix is a cyborg that was created using the body of a deceased woman to act as the catalyst for an experimental weapon system and power source known simply as the "Necromatrix". Which is where the cyborg gets her name from.

Rebirth

Upon Necromatrix's creation, she was left as a blank slate with only the most basic of programming and functionality. Nothing more than a humanoid weapon that was deployed into the Rogue Islands for field testing by her creator. Running missions with her creator as part of the field testing, Necromatrix was gauged in her abilities and strength, all the while being observed for how she would develop during the missions. It wasn't long until Subjective Cruelty decided to implement new protocols into Necromatrix to allow her to observe and learn from others, interested to see if she could develop any quicker. It wasn't long until the cyborg expressed her first genuine emotion on her own as a result during an operation that was had against the Skyraiders that nearly resulted in both Necromatrix, and her creators deaths. That emotion, being anger...

Ghost in the Machine

As Necro rapidly developed more and more with the alternations to her algorithms that her creator made, the occasional quirk, or tick in her behavior started to become noticeable. It wasn't until an operation that she conducted on the Marcone's, that the sudden quirks and ticks became a full fledged change in her demeanor as she suddenly flew into a berserk rage at the sight of the mafia members and promptly slaughter all of them some of the most brutal and horrific fashions one might be able to imagine. Her usual, mechanical methodology was replaced with something else that seemed extremely... Human. As though the presence of the Marcone's triggered something in her mind that caused a locked away presence to surface in the cyborg. While her creator had a general idea of what was going on, Necromatrix herself was completely oblivious to what the issue was when she regained control of herself. Believing the sudden outburst to be an anomaly in her neural pathways that she worked on locking down in her mind. While it worked, for the most part, the cyborg had no idea that what she was forcing into the back of her mind was actually the vengeful spirit of the woman that once used the body she now called her own, and the longer the cyborg ignored the "anomaly" in her head, the worse it became.

Confronting a Ghost

With the outbursts during her field work growing more and more frequent despite her attempts to lock down the "anomaly" that was in her head, Necromatrix elected to focus her full attention on the problem in her systems until she felt fit enough to operate in the field again. Testing her systems, scanning her mind and body, and researching the strange presence eventually lead the cyborg to conclude that the best thing to do would be a virtual dive into her own mind to deal with the problem head on. Luckily for her, she had resources readily available for such a task, the Architect System. Using this system, she wrote a battle program that was linked to her neural pathways, that would enable her to physically interact with her own mind on a virtual scale. After hiring some mercenaries to assist her in her operation that she was concocting, Necromatrix and her hired hands made their dive and confronted the anomaly. While this ended the out bursts, the "glitch" now aware of the fact that the cyborg could dive into herself and attack it directly now, it didn't get rid of it. Despite this fact, it was enough to let Necro keep the anomaly in lock down for the most part, and continue with her operations.

What is a Hero?

With her field work on going once again, Necro was starting to gradually regain a presence in the isles as an actual Super Villain. Having mysteriously lost contact with her creator at this juncture, she proceeded to act more independently. It wasn't until her meeting with a sentient Nemesis Automaton known as Steam Maid that she had a new aspect to consider brought to her attention. "Heroism can help ones self preservation". Intrigued by this notion, Necro immediately set forward to Paragon City to attempt "being a hero". While her first few endeavors were successful, saving a few people here, halting a bank robbery, and even repelling an attack from a terrorist group, it quickly came to the cyborgs conclusion that she must have been doing something wrong. She was risking her well being for people that, while grateful for her help, were doing nothing to assist in her own preservation of self, which had become one of her highest priorities as of late. She could only conclude that she had no idea what the true purpose of being a hero was, and how it was supposed to help her in her own preservation. It was time for research!

Halting all other activities, Necro began her work on looking into what a Hero truly was. Interviewing several individuals that identified themselves as heroes, only to end up getting conflicting answers, or hostile reactions when ever she pressed them for better, more detailed answers. It wasn't until Necro met the women from Gaslight, that she truely gained an answer that wasn't conflicting and actually held a degree of definable logic to it. It was through them that she realized that Heroism wasn't JUST the preservation of oneself, but also the preservation of everything around the self one could define as an external part of them. Friends, family, loved ones, and even ideals. While most of the other heroes Necro interviewed, often preached morality to her, and societal and social norms that they believed made a hero what they were, it was at this point the cyborg truly felt she had an understanding of what Heroism was supposed to be at its core. It was also at that point she realized, that she didn't have any of those things. No friends, loved ones, and the only family she had was her creator, of whom she suspected was ambiguous at best as far as his affections to her. She didn't even truly have any ideals to uphold beyond "stay alive".

Her revelation, proved the most devastating blow to Necro's being as she quickly realized... She had no purpose.

Personality

Necromatrix has a very mechanical deminor that is slightly tempered with actual Human mannerisms. While in most cases she can appear very bland and flat, she often times will display brief signs of emotion. Because of the machine like outlook she has, she's convinced that everyone and everything has some sort of logical reasoning behind the "why" of their being, and she is generally curious enough about new things she encounters to want to try and find out what that "why" is. Despite this, she's proven rather shy and introverted, despite her desire to be around other people that she can learn from, and won't normally engage someone in conversation unless she has something she wants to ask them, or she ends up being the one getting approached.
