Personality

Polly is an intelligent, often well spoken young woman. She is friendly and open about her sexuality, and it’s not much of a secret that she is bi-sexual except to her mother. She is mostly independent but still somewhat relies on her overbearing mother to support herself, although she is working to get out under her thumb. She is known to have a playful streak.

Character History

Before Her Birth

Patricia ‘Patty’ Lola was an activist in collage who, unknown to her, was the daughter of the villain Green Pyre and a Family made man. When she was three her father and mother were apprehended during a raid led by Statesman on a Family safe house; after which her mother was extradited to Texas where she was executed. Her father arranged for Patty to be adopted by his sister, Lisa, while he tried to establish himself on the streets of Paragon City. He would be killed just two months later when Back Alley Brawler arrived in the middle of a heated battle between Family soldiers and Tsoo warriors. Who killed him is still unknown; the events during the massive battle was obscure at best.

Growing up under her aunt’s eye all Patty knew was that superheroes had something to do with her parents deaths. As she entered her teenage years she began expressing open distaste and hatred for the cities super powered protectors. During her college days as a law student she wrote an essay that called for the return of the ‘Might for Right’ act. She would graduate near the head of her class. She worked for Crey shortly before moving on to becoming a prosecutor who was known to take on any case against heroes with open delight.

During a blind date she showed off her more sensitive, intelligent side as Wesley Ester began courting her. Unknown to her he was a super hero, a dark empowered warrior known as ‘Dark Crash’ who’s power came from a magical connection a dark dimension. He knew of her open distaste of heroes, but thought he could smooth that edge off. Somewhere along the way they fell in love and we’re married. Almost ten months to the day Polly was born. The ink was dry on the birth certificate when a nurse pointed out her name sounded like ‘polyester’.

Dark Crash, superhero and Polly’s father.

As Polly’s first birthday neared Patty’s hatred of heroes was lessening... In time for a villain known as Gamma Haze, arch-nemesis to Dark Crash to knock down their front door. Realizing his identity was compromised Wesley fought with the radioactive villain as Patty, dumbfounded, collected enough of her senses to grab Polly and run.

The house would collapse soon after. Both Dark Crash and Gamma Haze were pronounced dead.

Uncertain of what she should think of heroes, as her beloved Wesley was one, she decided to raise Polly with one thing in mind; that she would NEVER become a superhero.

Quitting her job she joined her aunt, working at the Paragon City Museum. She would, as Polly grew up, become a curator. Despite her busy job she tried her best to hover over Polly, ensuring she took her education seriously, who she was friends with and what her hobbies were. During all this she stressed that Polly could not become a superhero ever.

This decree, however, would be subverted as Polly collected tales, clips and information of various heroes in the city trying to figure out why her mother was so obsessed about heroes in general. Eventually she began to wonder what it would be to be a hero herself.

The Amulet

One day Patty brought home an amulet that her aunt wanted studied in greater detail. Finding it in her mother’s room Polly examined the trinket only to have it glow bright silver, smoke escaping from it and coating her body, infusing her with power. She would later learn the amulet contained power from Genrataka, God of the Moonlit Night. The sleeping power inside of her she inherited from her father activated it allowing her to receive its power, unwittingly becoming Genrataka’s avatar, finding she could fire dark energies from her hand.

While this was happening however the front door was beaten down as the Banished Pantheon burst in, kidnapping her mother. Coming down in time to watch them cart her off Polly knew she was the only one who could rescue her in time. She quickly grabbed a ski mask and old overcoat and chased after them to a cave. She fought her way into the cave and clashed with the Pantheon, but lost and was captured, taken to deeper inside where her unconscious mother was. She realized that the dark menaces wanted the amulet that empowered her and thought her mother had it. The Pantheon was about to execute her mother since she had no more value to them when Polly’s power activated on their own accord, teleporting mother and daughter away.

Both would recover, but Patty said she had no idea what had happened.

After this a book appear on Polly’s bed containing knowledge and spells of Genrataka. She began to study the tome, honing her powers. Despite this she felt she wasn’t ready to use her powers for anything.

Crisis in Cimerora

Spoiler warning: Details about a player-created storyline, or information currently unrevealed about a character, follow.

(The following is from the Mission Architect Arc ‘Cimerora & the Kilgoreja Demons’ #403511)

One day Polly was asked to help at the museum to catalogue items that had just come in. Picking up an odd, golden hourglass she rubbed the top, inadvertently activating the magic within it. She was taken to the Sybil Temple in the land of Cimerora, a place in ancient times ruled by Imperious. The Sybil’s in turned called the realm’s most powerful and experienced mage to find out what was going on, one Lord Night-Wave.

Lord Night-Wave of Cimerora.

Lord Night-Wave was intrigued by her magical powers, recognizing it came from a source unlike his own dark magics. He helped her fine tune her own magical powers as darkness fell over the realm.

One of the Romulus Augustus’ minions had released the greater demon Kilgoreja, the Invincible Lord of Fire, to take over Cimerora. He was killed by the very demon he set free.

Kilgoreja summoned his minions to the realm and began attacking Imperious' kingdom. Imperious pleaded to the Champion of Ages to help (Although records cannot agree on whether there was one champion or eight) to assist him. The champion rescued the Sybils, Polly and Lord Night-Wave, repelling the demons.

Realizing that in order to defeat the Demon Lord they had to disable the Pool of Souls, from which the demon collected near endless power. Lord Night-Wave and Polly began to brainstorm ideas to disable the pool that contained over a hundred thousand human souls for it’s power when Polly realized that if they could remove the souls the pool would be useless.

To do this the Champion was sent out to collect the Chalice of Aces then use it to collect water from the Well of Timeless Grace. This water could then be enchanted to steal the pool’s power. Kilgoreja’s minions stood in the way, but were defeated. All the while Lord Night-Wave went over a spell with Polly that could bind the demon by his soul, chaining him for eternity.

The Champion was joined by Lord Night-Wave who returned to an overrun Sybil Temple. They cleared the holy site and ascended up to an altar where Lord Night-Wave could empower the water. However it was there he revealed what was needed to empower the water; he had to insert his own soul into the Chalice of Aces so he could lead the souls out of the Pool of Souls and into the afterlife. After the ritual his body vanished, leaving only his hood and cloak. The Champion collected both, presenting them to a sombre Polly. Then she knew why Lord Night-Wave went over the binding spell with her until she could cast it herself; he intended for her to cast the spell...

Fashioning her own costume and donning his hood and cloak she decided to honour her teacher by protecting those about her like he did. In his memory she decided to take the name of Night-Wave for herself.

Joining the Champion in an attack on Kilgoreja’s domain she poured the empowered water into the Pool of Souls. For a moment the water took on the old man’s face, smiling softly before the water lost it’s eerie glow, it’s power no more.

Fighting with the Champion they fought the demonic minions, lieutenants and Kilgoreja’s most powerful general they came upon the greater demon himself. Even without the Pool of Souls empowering him Kilgoreja proved a determined, powerful and cruel foe. The battle was long and hard, but in the end the Champion struck him down. In turn to ensure he could never rise again Night-Wave used the spell taught to her by her teacher, binding the demon in place, sealing his powers and robbing his minions of his power. Without Kilgoreja’s power the demons were decimated in short order.

Using the Hourglass of Ages, Night-Wave took herself and the Champion back to their own time, making sure neither would be missed by sending them back to just after they left.

After her adventure Polly decided to become a hero, being careful to keep her alter-ego a secret from her mother.

Spoilers end here.
