Early Career

In his early 20's, Michael Corbis was a rising star in the field of Mixed Martial Arts. A naturally skilled fighter, though he favored striking techniques due to the amazing power granted by his large frame, Corbis was a capable of holding his own in submission and grappling. His greatest assets, however, were his charisma and his sportsmanship, which lead to his quickly becoming a fan favorite.

Corbis worked his way through various independent American MMA leagues before catching the eye of Japanese promoters. Jumping at the chance for the experience, Corbis left to continue his training in the land of the Rising Sun. While his growing American fanbase never forgot their hero once he left their shores, his exposure to American audiences dropped significantly during his time in Japan.

The cultural barriers didn't stop Corbis' growing fame, however, and he quickly developed a foreign fanbase that matched what he knew in America. While Corbis was successful and well-liked overseas, he soon longed to see his family again, as the tour was the longest he had been away from his home. Coming to an agreement with Ring of PRIDE, Corbis was allowed to return to his home after a stunning heavyweight title loss to another rising star, the Russian phenom Emil Fedoransky.

An Unexpected Turn

Upon returning to his family, Corbis was stunned to learn that his mother had fallen ill after a battle to take down the metahuman Agonus damaged the local water supply. While Corbis had been successful in his MMA career, and he was careful of his own finances, he was far from concerned with earning more money than he believed was necessary. His limited bank account was soon depleted to put his mother on the necessary medication to keep her alive.

The situation looked bleak until a fateful call from the head of a professional wrestling promotion, Extreme Wrestling World. They had been following Corbis' MMA career as well as his time abroad, and they believed he could be the next pro-wrestling superstar. Corbis was hesitant to transition from the legitimate fighting he had known for several years to the “entertainment sports” that the EWW was known for, but the sizable signing bonus check alone was enough to make sure that his mother received the care she needed for the next several years.

The Coming Blast

For unknown reasons, the EWW braintrust decided against having Corbis compete under his name. Instead, they gave him the character gimmick of the radioactively powered Nuclear Driver. A company man to the end, Corbis followed his orders without a single complaint, and did his best to make the role work. To the surprise of the EWW, Corbis' charismatic personality came through multiple fold once he was behind the mask they provided him. Nuclear Driver's popularity quickly rose, putting him on the fast track for a championship match for the EWW World Title against his rival, Richter Doom.

A Revelation

While at a house show the week before his championship bout, Corbis was confronted backstage by representatives of the Omega Project. They wanted to speak to Corbis personally to make an offer for him to join in special metahuman fighting tournament that would determine the new spokesman for the Omega Project, a corporate sponsored superhero. Refusing to take their offer, as the tournament would conflict with his obligations to the EWW and his impending championship match, the Omega agents pulled their trump card. They would release information to the public that Corbis had been secretly been using metahuman abilities to succeed throughout his fighting career.

Believing the suits had made a mistake about his non-existant powers, Corbis attempted to escort the men out, until a surprise maneuver by the metahuman representatives proved the existence of Corbis' superhuman physical ability. Crushed that he let his fans down by the revelation that his accomplishments were due in part to his superhuman traits and not purely the result of hard work, Corbis agreed to the terms of the Omega Project, and disappeared from entertainment sports to take place in their tournament.

A New Hero

The Global Guard

Shortly upon arriving in Paragon City, Omega Nuclear Driver was contacted by the alien hero Star Scion. Scion had recently begun reforming the heroic group the Global Guard in an effort to combat the criminal organization known as the Supreme Society. Welcoming the chance to be a part of a new team, but also currently unaware that Agonus is the leader of the Society, Omega took Scion up on his offer. However, Omega was unable to join the Guard in their first encounter and defeat against the Society. Since that time, Omega has increased his training so that when he finally does have a chance to face the villains, he can give them a "good ol' fashioned beat down in the name of justice!"

Powers

Omega Nuclear Driver's powers come from two sources. Primarily, he has a mutant ability that enables his strength, durability, endurance and reflexes to be pushed far beyond human levels. Prior to working with the Omega Project, Corbis subconsciously operated at a peak human range, occasionally accidentally pushing his physical traits to superhuman levels. After training with the Omega Project, Corbis is now able to continuously operate at superhuman levels and push his abilities even further under dire circumstances.

Corbis' secondary power is a bio-flame aura, given to him by the Omega Project. This was initially done in an effort to increase the combat effectiveness and marketability of Omega Nuclear Driver as corporate sponsored superhero. While the aura does enhance Corbis' combat effectiveness against metahuman opponents, he prefers to use his combat skills to defeat his adversaries when possible, and views the additional power as an advantage he needs use only when absolutely necessary.

Trivia

((-The name Omega Nuclear Driver is a play on Final Atomic Buster, the supermove used by the Russian wrestler Zangief in many Streetfighter 2 games. The idea came to me a looong time ago when I was briefly obsessed with playing as the big guy in one of the Marvel vs Capcom arcade games.

-OND's personality is mainly a cross between the Tick and old school Hulk Hogan, with a lot of wrestling cliches thrown in. Corbis himself is another matter entirely.))
