Once she had a name.

She was Rebecca LaFontaine, up and coming bio-genetic student at Ontario Institute of Technology. Her specialization had been in the growth and development of the so-called “Mutant-Meta Genome”. She could talk on it, because she was a mutant, just starting to develop ice control abilities. She was sure her research would land her a job with Orion labs in New York, London or even Paragon City. She had been bright, happy, with stars in her eyes.

Then her name was gone.

Late one spring evening, it came to an end with the Abduction. For a long time afterward, she never knew who they were, only that they were The Corporation. The man in the white suit was The Owner. And she? She was now a ‘Hybrid Delta’ called Onyx Veracity. The Owner claimed she was ‘art’. Her skin had become - to Him - the most perfect shade of slate-gray, accented with blue-white eyes.

Her powers - now augmented - allowed her a startling ability to generate ice from water vapor, or rapidly reduce the temperature of a victim, effectively draining away their endurance. Her abilities were used time and time again for interrogation and information extraction at the Owner’s insistence. It terrified her, and he reveled in it.

He named her Onyx for her dark powers, and Veracity for the truth she never failed to withdraw from anyone she came in contact with.

She was not alone. They all suffered terribly under the Corporation’s hand. Under the whim of the Owner. Until - they finally found freedom.

Then, she discovered something miraculous, something lost: she discovered herself.

Once Onyx helped destroy the lab that genetically altered her, she escaped. At first, she wandered alone, feeling that she would be best to vanish - to become the monster that she saw in her own reflection. That changed once she met two different people. One was a man named Michael Arkangel, another - later on - was a man named Jean-Claude Gironde.

They each helped her, yet in different ways. She learned the Corporation was called “Infinity Incorporated” and the evil that ran it – the Owner – was Simon Arkangel. She told all she knew, hopefully so that no one else would suffer.

For a time she stayed with Michael, mostly to retreat from the world. However, helping him with his research was not enough. She realized that her past - who she was - could be found. From Michael’s island, she left for Europe.

In Europe, she found the seeds of herself. She also found Crey Industries - or more accurately, they found her. Hounding her across the Continent, she stumbled into a man - a very powerful psychic with graying red hair - one night in Edinburgh. His name was Dr. Gironde, and he had little patience with Crey.

However, he did have patience with the broken young woman he saw that night. From there Gironde taught her inner strength, and showed her the path through her pain and nightmares. Under his tutelage, she discovered how to find what was lost. She looked to Ontario, to Paragon City then. For a long time she had been away, and even now she still wants to stay away.

Yet …

“The Corporation” had not been destroyed yet. It still abducted and tormented innocents for the “art” of “The Owner”. They were entrenched in faraway places around the globe – remote places where the laws were “flexible”. The Corporation had begun to ply their trade – release their creations – across New York, London, the Rogue Isles, Paragon City, and elsewhere. She knew … knew … she had to try one last time to make it stop, make them stop forever.

Once, she had a name. Now, she knows who she is, and what she has to do: find a way to stop Infinity Incorporated.

She now has a name.

It is Rebecca LaFontaine … the Onyx Veracity

Powers

Her powers are derived from her mutant ability to siphon heat and control darkness. Typically she is able to create and manipulate ice in this manner.
