Overview
Ornery Man was a Natural Brute in the Rogue Isles. He was a member of the villaingroup, Foxtrot Company. He has been retired from villainy.
Background
Description
On the planet Grypton, a lone scientist prepares to send his son into space...
"They can be a great people, Mal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son... TO KICK THEIR PANSY BUTTS!"
And thus, Ornery Man was born!
History
Upon arriving to the Rogue Isles, Ornery Man began working for the highest bidder as a mercenary, at the same time building his strength and resilience. His eagerness to rush headfirst into battle to prove his supposed invincibility made him very desirable to his employers.
In Hidden Villain! Gedankenmesser Zero!, Ornery Man was tricked (after half an hour of leading him to the "proper" conclusions) into attacking Foxtrot Company. However, because he was also a member of Foxtrot Company, his first target upon arriving at the base was...
In the embarrassing self-fight to follow, Ornery Man made a mess of Foxtrot headquarters, absorbed some of Moonshadow's essence (which briefly possessed him), and greatly annoyed the occupants.
In Ornery Man Destroys the World, Ornery Man explored, as part of Project: DESTINY, a future where he helped Lord Recluse to rule the world. However, it turned out that Ornery Man and Lord Recluse destroy each other (and the world) while struggling over it. As a barren world would leave no one to fear him, Ornery Man would not have it. With the help of his patron and his teammates, he defeated Lord Recluse in the future, thus making it an undesirable future for Recluse to pursue.
In Ornery Man versus the Freedom Phalanx, Lord Recluse sent Ornery Man and his teammates on a mission to crush the Freedom Phalanx. Unfortunately, in the end, the team of angry heroes proved too much for them. Ornery Man, however, chose to stay behind and continue to fight.
After nearly two hours of being beaten down, mediporting to the hospital, returning, and being beaten down again, Ornery Man was finally strapped down to a Longbow chaser and flown straight into Lord Recluse's Watchtower. Lord Recluse, in turn, had Ornery Man strapped to an Arachnos flier-- and dumped into the ocean.
Ornery Man finally obtained threat level 50, but, unsatisfied with this status, he took on the persona of the mild-mannered reporter Dork Dent to spy on others. It is in this way that he "discovered" that Foxtrot Company didn't "think" he could survive a trip to the sun. It occurred to him that this would be a perfect trap for his long time rival (Ornery Man), who could be easily tricked into attempting the feat. Thus, one day, he tricked... himself... into flying toward the sun, and has not been seen since.
Personality
Ornery Man speaks loudly, usually refers to himself in the third person, and constantly boasts about how "Ornery Man is invincible!" He is fond of making money and is willing to perform almost any task for pay. Due to his ignorance of Earth customs, Ornery Man is easily tricked into dangerous and deadly acts, although somehow he always survives them.
Ornery Man has the following quirks:
Invincible! Self +Volume, +Third Person Reference
You are Invincible!, and boy, do you know it. Being used to taunting your foes about how invincible you are, you have taken to shouting at the top of your voice even in normal conversation, and constantly referring to yourself in the third person. This power costs no endurance and is always on.
Powers
Being a hulking brute, Ornery Man prefers to fight his foes in melee (although he is not above cheating at range). The evil that naturally emanates from his person serves to further enhance his already-formidable strength.
Invincible Fists of Evil
Ornery Man punches with the full force of his muscles-- and evil! His speed and strength are so incredible that he can simply fake a punch and still strike fear into his enemies.
Invincible Body of Evil
Whether he really is invincible or not, Ornery Man is highly resilient, and attacks do not inflict much damage to him. The evil aura that surrounds him even forces foes to cower before his might. Sometimes, even when defeated, Ornery Man is actually able to bounce back and fight anew.
Soul Mastery
Ghost Widow has taught Ornery Man to use the souls of those he accidently killed (but if only he could accidently kill more people!) to torment his enemies. She has also taught him to project his evil aura from range.
Flight
Ornery Man has the ability to fly. He uses his power for travel and for combat.
Trivia
- Ornery Man is (obviously) a parody of Superman and other Golden Age heroes.
- The Dork Dent persona is based on Douglas Smith's original concept of an undercover superhero.
- Ornery Men are a species of humanoids who constantly subject themselves to life-threatening conditions for the purpose of weeding out the weak. Ornery Men, thus, do not believe in chemical or genetic improvements-- only natural ones.
- Ornery Men do not believe in killing; the dead cannot awe and fear you.
