Personality

Platino is a wise-cracking, loyal, extremely experienced metal man. He is quite fond of verbal battles, as well as physical ones. No longer concerned with his distant past, Platino does his best to remain rooted in the present, looking to the future, and only drawing on past experiences for knowledge, not for nostalgia. As a world traveler and a veteran of many American wars, he has plenty of experience to draw on. Platino is fiercely loyal to his leadership, whenever he decides to take up someone Else's banner, and will give 110% toward their goals.

Background

Platino was found on an upstate New York farm in 1822 by an impoverished farmer and his Spanish dowser friend. The farmer had employed the dowser to find water in his field so he could dig a well. 10 feet down, they struck a large, heavy, and very shiny object, which the dowser immediately recognized as Platinum, which in his native Spanish, is "Platino." Excavating the area around the object, which they thought to be a larger than life metal statue, oriented face down. When they finished digging him up and, with great effort, turned him over, he sprang to life, screaming and writhing like an infant. The metal man had the motor skills, emotional, and mental capacities of a newborn.

Platino learned these things at a speed normal to a human, essentially "growing up" during the time preceding the war between the states. He served as an officer in the Union army, and stayed in that position through the Spanish American war. After that, he started traveling the world, looking for his origins. Finding nothing, he returned to America in 1910, only to almost immediately head back overseas to volunteer for world war one, where he fought in the trenches. In the thirties, Statesman appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, to found the Freedom Phalanx. Platino, like many super powered individuals, finally realized the potential of his powers. He founded a parallel super group, "The Citadel Guard," which competed for city defense contracts with dozens of other newly minted super groups.

The Citadel Guard: The Golden Age of Heroism

The Citadel Guard, composed of over a dozen "Action Heroes," protected Chicago from all sorts of threats. Part of the challenge of running a super group in the forties and early fifties was that, lacking any sort of centralized hero dispatch service, individual cities would give contracts to certain super groups and discourage the rest from interfering. Groups were chose by effectiveness to a degree, but it was an imperfect system, and popularity factored greatly into the choice as well.

To this effect, the Citadel Guard went through several publicists, who would arrange radio shows, interviews, merchandising, and public appearances. Unlike several super groups of the era, The Guardsmen were never involved in any staged battles to advance their name.

The Citadel Guard participated in WWII as an independent unit, achieving great success in this regard. Platino was, at that point, still a colonel in the united states super powered corps, although he answered to very few men. For his part, he served under George S. Patton in the european front, and conducted his operations from that post. After VJ day, Platino retired and brought the citadel guard into retirement with him, taking them out of their position as independent contractors. For another 10 years, the citadel guard struggled on, eventually being forced to disband for lack of funds.

The Silver Age

Platino wandered, alternating between heroing and hermitage for decades. As Tech heroes became more prevalent, Platino felt more and more pushed to the wayside.

It wasn't until the first Rikti war that he came out of his depression and began heroing full time. The Valiant Sacrifices made during the war inspired him to return to the public eye after decades of obscurity. He joined The Echelon and served with them until their fall. Afterward he vanished. He returned months later, wearing the garb of Ouroboros, Having apparently spent the time protecting history.

Origins

(These origins may spoil a project of mine in the future)

Spoiler warning: Details about a player-created storyline, or information currently unrevealed about a character, follow.

In the time of the crusades, an exceptional knight, precursor to the modern costumed hero, used his powers to fight a war far from home. This war was not against the Saracens, however, but an ancient evil that his lord's seers sensed and feared. The knight journeyed a long way to reach the den of the God-beast. After a tremendous clash of steel and sinew, the beast had the knight cornered, alone, and unarmed. Desperate, the knight used his own spiritual powers to fling his soul into the beast, intertwining their energies that he could project them from this plane. The warrior and the beast were both slain on this earth, but for centuries the transmuted soul of hero and monster drifted through the ether until it , by chance, passed through the heart of an active supernova. The massive explosion, already a source of great planar disturbance, drew that souls to it and trapped them within the heavy atoms created in its heart. The first atom to bond with the souls was one of platinum The souls pushed all dissimilar atoms away, eventually forming a dense form of 100% platinum. Platino was born from this cloud of precious metals, but knows nothing of his past. he came to earth a blank slate, but regains more of his experiences from his past lives while he lives his own, third life.
