Personality

Quasar Red is a bit of the more "classic" hero compared to my other Shield character, Heavy-Mettle. He certainly wouldn't condone the way the Reciprocators handle arrests as he considers that to be only one step away from becoming one with the enemy. He is a much more a Golden Age JLA thinker, good will always triumph through hard-work and determination, "fighting fire with fire" just leads to a bigger blaze, etc. His general demeanor pulls greatly from comic characters such as Superman, Cyclops, and The Flash (Barry Allen).

Powers

Quasar Red is capable of, through mutation brought on by The Entity, manipulating the latent energy in his body. The energy that most people spend in a week, he is able to focus and spend in a single punch (or to reinforce his muscle structure to prevent serious damage). Quasar Red also has the ability to fly by creating an energy field charged to exact or negative polarization with the War-Walls, pulling and pushing him to and from them respectively; outside of Paragon City he has not yet figured out how to fly, or even if he can. Due to his unique abilities, Quasar Red eats an incredible amount of food each day, having to eat ten to twelve full meals depending on how much heroing he has to do.

Weaknesses and Limitations

Quasar Red shares a similar problem with children's toys. As long as he has the power to keep going he is fine, any enemy that can outlast him will find that they have won however.

Equipment

Beyond his costume, the only equipment Quasar Red takes along with him is a small Police Band Scanner embedded in his belt buckle.

Character History

John McDanal held a very special honor, he was the first man to be granted the honor of attempting manned spaceflight to Mars. Due the sheer amount of power cells required, John was sent alone into the black nothing. After five years of travel in a suspended animation state, John found himself waking to unfamiliar stars, with Mars, and the Earth, nowhere in sight.

To add insult to injury, not only was he lost, he seemed to have reached some sort of blackhole, though it seemed to have an enormous radius and the pull wasn't as strong as he imagined. For something called a blackhole, it also certainly looked red to him.

As he watched his vessel pulled closer and closer to the center of the hole, he suddenly felt the hole pulling his very essence from him, as if it sought to feed on his soul. In a feeble attempt, John steered his small ship to the outer ring of the hole, his only hope to slingshot around it at full-speed. As he began to will his plan into action, John noticed an incredible power starting to feed through his veins, as the ship stopped completely, despite its thrusters firing at full speed.

"Human..." a golden voice seemed to ring out into the hull of his ship.

"My name is John." he responded, trying to sound cheerful at the chance of new life.

"John..." the voice continued, "A great threat... to this galaxy and yours has come to your world once, and it seeks to return. I do not know whether this 'Earth' of yours will be able to defeat them for good."

"What... what did I miss?" John asked, his thoughts jumbled at the thought of a threat to Earth arriving in his absense.

"Your people's word for them is 'Rikti'" the voice spoke again, "Your world was given the strength to defeat them once through the sacrafice of a great hero, I do not know if that will be enough this time. I have seen your moral reactions through experimentation with your central thought system..."

"You experimented on my brain?" John asked, started to sound upset.

"It was necessary human, and it is also the reason I have pulled your ship to me. I wish to have a champion on your world of my own, to protect not only your galaxy, but this one if yours should fall." the golden voice finished.

"How will I..." John started, before suddenly finding himself very very tired.

"Rest human, the speed at which you must now travel is incomprehensible to your species, I do not wish my champion to arrive home a sobbing mess of insanity..." the golden voice continued, as John's eyes suddenly became heavy, "If you need my help beyond your gifts, seek me in your own mind Human, I am The Entity."
