Under Construction

In 446 B.C., a Cabeiri, one of the descendents of Hephaestus, raped a virgin priestess of Athena during her trip back from the local well. Eight and a half months later, the woman died in childbirth, leaving behind a lonely baby boy named Alex, the shivering little lump of dust-mud blood and fluid on the barren ground.

The Robot Child's Born

Left with the premature, illegitimate demigod offspring of a fellow priestess, the cult turned to their patron goddess for guidance. With the father eight months in hiding, far out of reach of Athena's retribution, the cult was instructed to raise the baby as a servant of Athena, to be taught in the ways of wisdom, culture, and defensive, strategic warfare.

Forging Shapeless Metal

While being raised with the favor of Athena did significantly influence him, Alex always had the nature of a Cabeiri, tinkering with odds and ends from around the temple and turning them into inventions true to his ancestry.

Already lost in a state of emotional isolation from the virgin women who saw him as a strange little creature wandering the halls of their temple, these demonstrations of craftsmanship only served to further ostracize him from the pathetic semblance of a family he was raised with.

Compounding the issue, the lack of familial foundation left him a virtual pariah in the Athenian community, devoid of friendships with anyone or thing other than his inventions.

Other than the goat. Alex raised a pet goat, but sadly there was an earthquake, and, told that his goat was needed to help appease Poseidon, Alex agreed to share his goat.

The goat was sacrificed. Alex cried.

The Lonely Robot Travels Time

At fifteen, it was decided by the cult that Alex was old enough to live on his own, a pubescent boy being less than desirable in a temple dedicated to a virgin goddess. So, with a monthly allowance, Alex was sent out on his own, living in a small shack deep in the heart of ancient Athens. Devoting himself completely to his crafting, Alex cracked countless technologies that were centuries

By this time, however, Alex was a more-than-capable craftsman, capable of crafting technologies that were millennia away from being discovered by the mortals of the time. Eventually, through the guidance of Athena and at one point Hephaestus himself, Alex stumbled through the technologies of time travel, becoming a portal-wandering tinkerer hopping the centuries to help protect his dimension from multidimensional threats.
