Ravenous Wraith is the "Mirror, Mirror" version of my main hero, The Green Wraith, and my first attempt at an actual villain in CoV.

Contents

Personality

Ravenous Wraith truly believes that you, whoever you are, are inferior to him in every way. And in some instances, he's right: No villain has accomplished in this world what he has in his, even ones far more powerful than he has ever been. He is hugely disinterested in the affairs of this dimension, and as such has no issue with playing any and every side against themselves if it suits his own gain. This manipulative streak extends to people as well as organizations.

He is, in essence, the embodiment of the D&D alignment "Neutral Evil." He has an almost cheerfully sociopathic view of the world, considering himself to be above the actions of normal society, and is a danger to everyone around him that does not suit his goals, hero and villain alike.

Character History

Ravenous Wraith is, in essence, The Green Wraith "with the filters off," what would become of Archer Samuels if he acted on those dark impulses that lurk in the back of his mind. He kind of serves as a very physical representation of why The Green Wraith isn't your standard "paragon of morality" style hero: because there's a very real part of him that IS this guy.

At some point in the development of Archer Samuels, there was a deviation in the way in which he saw his role as a superhero. No longer believing himself to be a protector of those who couldn't protect themselves, He felt that (hailing from a dimension where is in one of only a handful of people with any form of superhuman abilities) he was indeed superior to the rest of humanity, and thus set out to claim his rightful place at the top.

Archer claims to be from another dimension where he had usurped control of the world's goverment, and has even made claims that he had destroyed eighty percent of the world's population in the process. There is (as yet) no proof to this claim, though the same story is corroborated by his illegitamte son, Jobe Samuels.

Archer has stated numerous times that he doesn't care to interfere with the affairs of this dimension, and is only here to retrieve his son, who he claims was kidnapped by The Green Wraith. He also claims to care deeply for his son, and says he wants nothing more than to see him come home to thier world with him, while Jobe claims that Archer merely wants to kill and consume him, as he does all of his children, to eliminate any possible threat to his rule. There is insufficient evidence to support either of these claims at this time.

Powers

Energy Manipulation

Archer is a mutant with the ability to absorb electrical, thermal, and chemical energy from all manners of sources, including people, and redirect that energy in the form of blasts of energy.

The act of "draining energy" from an organic target can be often severely debilitating for it, and if enough is drained, even fatal. While the heroic Archer Samuels has vowed to never do such a thing (as he could never live with himself if he quite literally took someone's life for his own), Ravenous Wraith employs the practice often, citing that "The weak are always preyed upon by the strong, aren't they?"

Archer's talent with energy manipulation also manifests itself in remarkable regenerative abilities, often able to heal himself completely from a normally fatal wound almost immediately. He can also extend this healing ability outward to heal others, but only does so if they serve some unfufilled purpose of his.

"Energy Sense"

Like his heroic counterpart, Archer Samuels can sense electrical, chemical, and thermal energy, and has often remarked on the taste of his foe's life as he drains them. This gives the appearance of supernatural senses (being able to sense the location of otherwise invisible foes, the ability to see and target blasts through some walls), but in reality his other, standard five senses are as strong as a normal human's.

Superhuman Speed, and Super Leaping

Archer is also able to absorb the kinetic energy from objects, essentially slowing down thier actions to a crawl while his own speed and maneuverability is greatly increased. Similar to the tactics of his heroic counterpart, Archer uses this to travel, as well as in battle, using his speed to appear and disappear in different spots around his target rapidly, like a ghost or specter. This, combined with his practice of fatally draining his opponents to sustain his own power, is the basis for his "villain name," Ravenous Wraith.

Weakness and limitations

As Archer shares the powers of his dimensional analogue, so does he share his weaknesses.

- Archer is unable to sense, and is therefore especially susceptable to, magical energy.

- As Archer consumes his reserves of drained energy, he loses power. If he is completely drained, he is powerless, and loses all superhuman abilities until he is able to absorb more. He has trained himself to absorb ambient heat and light to circumvent this limitation, but in some special circumstances (an attack by a Malta Sapper's energy weapon, for example), he can be rendered completely vulnerable.

- Archer can regenerate almost any wound, but still takes damage and experiences pain just like any other human being. Due to vanity and hubris, Archer wears no protective armor whatsoever, so he is essentially a large walking target. This is typically why he prefers to have others do his dirty work for him if at all possible.
