History

Gabriel was born into a traditional Mormon family in the heartland of Mormon culture: Utah. He was just like other Mormons, going to church, going door to door preaching the Mormon word. He did his best to abstain from unhealthy and unholy desires. He was slated to become an Elder of the community at 18. Gabriel had an odd problem, however. He was incredibly germaphobic.

However, when he was 16, classmates introduced him to something amazing: school dances. The music, the partying! He'd never had so much fun in his life. Problem was? He was beginning to indulge in practices prohibited by the Words of Wisdom.

The Words of Wisdom prohibited indulging in caffeine, cola, alcohol, tobacco, sex, and hot drinks. While Gabriel hadn't tried most of the things the Words prohibited, he found that he really liked Cola and caffeine. They probably weren't good for him, but he did it anyway in secret. His parents and the Church would never approve of this.

Come 18, the Quorum (the group of leaders ordained by the priesthood authority) didn't have any more spaces for Elders, as there was a limit to how many could be present in one quorum. Well, there went Gabriel's plan for the future. He decided to go to the local community college, majoring in business. He continued to attend Church as well as party in secret. College had such great night life. He made a few friends at the college which were more liberal Mormons so there wasn't any clash in religion. The non-Mormon people didn't seem to like him all too much, mainly because of preaching Mormonism and cleaning everything with antiseptic wipes.

A year later, Gabriel was partying it up when he felt a strange pain in his stomach. He thought it might be bad cafeteria food (or that Jesus was finally smiting him for drinking so much cola). However, it wasn't. It was instead a mutation manifesting itself. He broke out in a cold sweat in the middle of the dance floor. His blond hair flushed bright pink as pink radiation flowed out from his body. Everyone around him collapsed, falling ill. He promptly collapsed as well.

The story hit the papers, claiming that everyone had collapsed by radiation poisoning. Gabriel was listed as one of the victims. His secret indulgent party life was finally out.

Gabriel woke up in the hospital a few days later. The doctor told him he had a mutation related to radiation. Gabriel had heard of mutants from news from the East Coast, but that was far away and he wasn't sure how much he believed in mutations until now. It was happening to him. There was no way to deny it. His hair was pink!

When he was released from the hospital, no one had come to take him home. So he walked home, thinking of what his doctor had told him, to go to Rhode Island to specialists who knew how to treat mutations. People on the street stayed away from him and he found his belongings on the front lawn when he got home. The Church excommunicated him, calling him devil spawn and an abomination. He had no choice but to leave.

A friend from college, Michael, spotted Gabriel walking by himself on the road and offered him a lift. He had relatives in Rhode Island and was heading there for break. Gabriel accepted the offer quickly. Michael was one of the liberal Mormons he knew. Michael said he knew some doctors who handled mutations in Rhode Island. A cousin of his was suffering from a mutation herself.

After a long trip, the duo reached Rhode Island and Michael dropped Gabe off at the hospital in Atlas Park, wishing him the best before heading off. This would be the place to cure him and fix his mutation. Unfortunately, this place couldn't really 'cure' him, only help him live with it. After seeing some heroes in action, Gabriel was starting to think this mutation thing might not be so bad. After all, the radiation was helping with his germaphobia, allowing him to irradiate things other people touched.

Gabriel changed his name to Gabe, undertaking the alias Raven (it sounded like raving), and began to learn more about this mutation thing. He learned he could manipulate energy by changing its properties, much like changing a rather ordinary element into a radioactive one. He could manipulate his own energy, allowing him to jump to unfathomable heights and run faster than cars. It was actually pretty fun. Maybe this mutation thing really wasn't so bad.
