Background

Imprisoned by Malta!

For Rentaro, life began at 10 years old. The newly formed Malta Corporation had taken him from his famiy at that age and wiped his mind. He was re-educated and taught basic knowledge such as how to read, work equations, etc. However, the technicians at the Malta Corporation were careful not to allow Rentaro -test subject #498328- to learn too much. Reading materials were extremely limited. Homework was next to nonexistant. Rentaro was given just enough knowledge to function as a civil human being, but not enough knowledge to think for himself, make his own decisions, distinguish right from wrong, etc.

Many Primal Earthlings recognize the name Malta from the Malta Group, a civilian entity bent on elimination the "superhuman threat" from Primal Earth. However, the Malta Corporation, a Praetorian counterpart to Crey Industries of Primal Earth, sought to create mindless superhumans that they could control. Unfortunately for them, they succeeded.

Explosion at the Malta Corporation

On November 15th of the year 2007, #498328, codenamed Rentaro, woke up in his cell. It had been a painful 5 years since the Malta Corporation stopped his education regiment and started conducting experiments on him. He was constantly recieving chemical injections, cybernetic implants, and robot prosthetics. He always woke up in unimaginable pain. Unfortunately, he was at the mercy of the Malta Corporation. The implants that he'd recieved ensured that even though he suffered more pain than a normal human goes through in a lifetime, he wouldn't die during an experiment. It took a lot of money and red tape to "acquire" test subjects, and Malta was not going to let that go to waste.

This morning, however, things were different. Rentaro did not feel any painful. As a matter of fact, he felt nothing but a pulsing sensation that traveled throughout his body. It wasn't exactly a good feeling, but it wasn't a bad feeling either. Something was different. Had all of those experiments and tests finally paid off? Had Malta managed to create the superhuman that they were hoping for?

Rentaro walked up to his cell door: a large looming frame made of impervium that was half a meter thick to prevent any of the "anger-prone" test subjects from breaking it down. He was just about to beat on the door when a bolt of electricity rushed from his hands and hit the metal door. An electrical current raced across the metal before seemingly being absorbed. Suddenly everything powered by electricity in the labs went dark. Security systems were down. Lights went out. Control panels blew up.

A few moments later, when the backup power kicked in, he looked down at his hands. What was going on? Suddenly, a guard came along and punched the young teen in the stomach, rendering him unconscious. The guard would soon learn that this was a big mistake. The young boy's body started to fix. Electrical current started to envelop his body until it become a dazzling spectacle of light. Then, in one sudden rush, all of the power in Rentaro's body was unleashed.

Rescue from Malta Labs

The PPD was quick to respond. Calls of an explosion in the area stopped up the phone lines. The psychic disturbance caused by the Seer collective in the area was enough to render Mother Mayhem unconscious. Only dust, rubble, and destroyed equipment lie where the proud Malta Corporation building once stood. There was mass panic as people fled the area and looted nearby stores. All of this chaos had been caused by one 18-year-old boy.

As the PPD and other volunteers cleared the area and looked for survivors, they found many of the superhumans that the Malta Corporation had genetically created. Among them was Rentaro, who lie unconscious under a pile of rocks. The young boy and the other superhumans were transported to the Mother of Mercy Hospital and treated. Amazing, none of the children had suffered any major damage. Some of them had minor scratches that healed within seconds. A few of them had lost a limb or two that immediately regenerated. Some of them, like Rentaro, didn't have a scratch or bruise on their body.

Rentaro, along with many of his peers from the Malta labs, were immediately recruited into the Powers Division of the Praetoria Police Department. At the Cultural Direction and Education Center, they were given a proper education and taught loyalty towards Emperor Cole's regime. In the Underground, they were taught to kill Resistance members and ghouls on sight. It was Praetor White, however, who took a personal interest in Rentaro.

Birth of a Hero(?)

Under Praetor White's tutelage, Rentaro grew stronger and better by the second. In the eyes of the public, Rentaro was the paragon of justice. His first priority was to help and defend the people. He proudly served the empire of a Loyalist and servant of Emperor Cole. Praetor White became the father figure that Rentaro never had. He grew and developed as a person and was soon able to make decisions and morality choices on his own.

When Praetor White finished training Rentaro, he told him to always depend on his powers to do the talking. Since then, Rentaro has quietly sought justice, defeating those who posed a threat to peace in Praetoria. His name became a legend among the Resistance and Destroyers. The Syndicate learned to fear him. Pretty soon, anyone against the law of Praetoria would "disappear" at the mention of his name. No one wanted to suffer the wrath of the quiet Powers Division "hero" named Rentaro.

Unbeknownst to Rentaro, however, everything he had worked for, all of the missions that he'd completed, were not what he thought they were. The government that he'd sworn his loyalty to was oppressive and corrupt. He'd seen questionable act being committed by his own government: the plan to destroy Anti-matter's reactors in Neutropolis and blame it on the Resistance, Mother Mayhem's "hospital" where she subjected gifted women to painful mental experiments. He'd realized that Praetoria wasn't much of a utopia, after all.

Departure from Praetoria

After gaining enough experience in Praetoria and establishing a name for himself, Rentaro was contacted by Provost Marchand. The Provost wanted him to travel to Primal Earth in order to act as a delegate to promote cooperation between the two dimensions. An encounter with the mad gun-wielding Longbow and the sly Arachnos of Primal Earth made this necessary.

Before leaving, he was contacted by Interrogator Kang, who'd helped Rentaro on numerous occasions, who wanted to offer Rentaro something: a chance to leave Praetoria, not as a mindless executor of the "law", but as a hero of the people. He'd killed many innocent people in the name of Praetoria and now he could wash some of that blood from his hands. Rentaro, along with Inspector Kang, decided to alert the people of Praetoria of an incredible danger that they faced and that the government was trying to hide this information from them. Still, it seemed his attempt didn't work. The people of Praetoria really were mindless sheep.

Encounter with Emperor Cole

Before making that first step through the Rift that would take him to Primal Earth, Rentaro encountered Emperor Cole. All his life, Rentaro had never met the Emperor. He'd only heard of his feats: single-handed defeating Hamidon and the often rejected legend that he'd taken a drink from a magic fountain that granted him unlimited power. Now, the Emperor who was quite possibly the strongest man in the Universe, was standing before him.

Emperor Cole question Rentaro's loyalty to Praetoria and his goals. He reminded Rentaro of all of the people that he'd killed in the name of the Empire. He reminded him of the monster he'd become. And yet, somehow, he didn't seem to care about any of this. Somehow, he seemed almost proud of the atrocities that Rentaro had committed in the name of Praetoria.

After a stern warning from the Emperor that he should make sure he's on the right side when the imminent war between the two worlds starts, Rentaro stepped through the Rift, sure of his decision. He would help to protect the people of Primal Earth from his own world. Then, when this world was safe, he would go on to remove those in power in Praetoria and give the power to the people.

Primal Praetorians

Creating Peaceful Relations Between Primal and Praetorian Earth

After establishing a presence within Primal Earth, Rentaro searched for a way to fulfill his goal of creating peaceful relations between Primal Earth and Praetorian Earth. This led to the creation of the Primal Praetorians, a supergroup consisting of Praetorians who oppposed the tyrannical rule of Emperor Cole. The group, although small, enjoyed a small time working together as one. There was no set structure within the group. The three founding members were all given full access to the base and administrative tasks. For a while, things were good.

Disbandment

The supergroup didn't enjoy a long-term existence, however. Each member of the group went his or her separate ways. The group stopped meeting up regularly as each member became entrenched in his or her own methods and goals. This led to a different member leaving the group each day. Most members went on to found or join a new supergroup, while others preferred not to be a part of a group. This trend continued until Rentaro was the only member left. With no one else using the base and no new prospective members, Rentaro decommissioned the base. The old base still stands today, now nothing but a relic of the past.
